never thought I’d ever lose interest in pgatour golf

The PGA Tour has a significant charitable impact on each city they visit. I don't watch the LIV telecast, is there any mention of money going to charity in the LIV cities?

Gooch being lumped in with major champions such as Rahm, Koepka, Bryson is kind of funny. I guess he had a great season last year, but he only had to beat 50 guys each week. Most of the other big names are on the downhill side of their career.

The PGA Tour has a field of 150+ to beat each week. I like hearing about the Monday qualifier that makes the cut and posts a top 10 and gets into the field next week. That can't happen at LIV.

Hard to take a post like this seriously

Lol.  Rahm has 2 majors, Brooks 5, Bryson 1.  Gooch won 3 times on LIV last year and has a win on PGA Tour.  Rahm, Koepka and Bryson are also multiple time winners on PGA Tour.  But yeah, keep down playing these guys and acting like they're nobodies.  Haters gonna hate.

Lumping Gooch in with the likes of Rahm, Brooks, and BDC is the joke, as you’re well aware.

Ok, I'll give you that, however, Gooch did win 3 times last year on LIV which is still no small feat.  He's still in his prime and playing lights out.  That kind of success translates to any tour.

It's a shame that they decided to play resort golf with guaranteed money and to become employees of a foreign government.  Sure they have skills, but there's no pressure.  It's like watching them play practice rounds. Win or lose, they still make millions.

That's not hate.  That's disappointment.

Some business ideas can’t survive past the original founders.  Maybe the ‘tour’ really was Gardner Dickinson , Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer all along.  Sure there have been other stars, but without a real leader for today it looks a little rudderless.

There has been plenty-o-stars, just no real business leadership post the Arnie (and Jack to some extent) business era.  Tiger showed up, sponsors showed up, Arnie and Coach Gibbs got the Golf Channel going.

They lost major sponsors: Honda and Wells Fargo.  Tour borrowing on TV numbers that didn’t show. Fed came nocking about the 501 , and the Tour reacts by creating a for profit.  Big houses getting built in Ponte Vedra and Middleburg by PGA Tour executives.

I love the PGA Tour, just as a business they are in a struggle.  The young players are really good, and play is the best ever with really deep talent.  As a business, they need a make over.  Hopefully the baseball gents  and retail gent can fix it.

A bunch of shallow takes that ignore the reality of what the Tour built up over decades.  Yep, there are some issues caused and to some extent brought to the forefront by events the pat couple of years, but you don't understand anything about what the Tour was and became and how.  No business leadership? Nonsense.

It's difficult to evaluate the leadership without being on the inside.  You can also look at the current state from different angles.  On the positive side, the Tour backfilled and is fully sponsored this season, secured a $3b investment partner and got rid of potentially crippling LIV lawsuits.  Eliminating the litigation with no strings attached other than dropping their countersuit is the most significant accomplishment of the 3 mentioned.  4 years ago the Tour secured a TV deal that is exceptionally high for the relative popularity of the sport.  139 players last year had winnings of $1m or more.  7 made over $10m.  Considering the golf is a niche sport, I believe it's overachieved.

There are a number of areas where the Tour can be criticized but on balance, the Tour is fairing well, despite the challenges of an irrationally spending competitor with money to burn.  If the Tour successfully moves forward, having already killed litigation and not having to give up equity to the PIF, I think they'll have done a great job.  I get that the players are upset over the bombshell framework agreement announcement but they fail to realize that the deal likely doesn't materialize outside of the confidential negotiations of the top decision makers.  Monahan rolled the dice, alienating himself from a lot of players but I think it was worth it to dispose of the lawsuits that could have become fatal to the Tour.  Who knows if they ever fully intended to even go forward with the framework agreement?  One could also argue that Monahan & Co exposed them to the lawsuits and they may be right as it's fair to say they made some mistakes in fighting off LIV.

The PGATour still has loads of talent and the college players coming will still add depth to the fields. My biggest concern with the PGATour, and to a lesser degree the DPWT, is the lack of name recognition, at least for the time being, and who are the "villians" that you would root against. Watching these young players, they are all talented but very "plain".
