Speaking of interviewing Jay Monahan I remember the press interviewing Hootie Johnson the Masters Chairman during boycott by women's groups.

Interviewer: Tiger Woods released a statement about Augusta National allowing female members would you like to comment.

Hootie Johnson: We don't tell Tiger Woods how to play golf and Tiger Woods doesn't tell us how to run Augusta National.

Yep, don’t mess with the Masters plantation mentality.

Pretty typical ‘human nature’ behavior. Get ur house on the hill and then start a “save the hills” campaign to stop further building.

*def not condoning it, but ya see it all too frequently.

That is actually the opposite of what Rory said. When pressed for details, Rory said there should be more pathways for the players from KFT or PGAT U. He called out the guys that are still getting starts based on what they did 5-10 years ago.

So to use your analogy, Rory wants to kick out his fellow neighbors on the hill that stopped paying their HOA dues and refuse to maintain their property.

Always fun to see the first few  pages of the thread prior to big tourneys - it is basically WRX commentators on the range warming up 🤣. Loosening up the long iron nouns and verbs, and the precision adjective/adverb wedges.

Can't wait to get beyond all the business-of-golf hoohah and just talk about golf. Great course, with (looks like) great weather, and a great field.

This will be a very interesting tournament for me to watch this week.  My hot takes (pure guesses) below.

Dark Horse Winner: Jason Day

Dark Horse to miss cut: Rory Mcllroy

Let's see what happens!

I like to bet a basket of winners, even though sharp money is always on top 10s and 20s.

There's no value taking Scheffler at 5.5:1. He can't really be 20pct or better to actually win even if he's a huge favorite. Tiger didn't win 1 outta every 5 even in his prime. I don't think anyway.

So I took Clark, Burns and Conners to win. All 3 playing good golf right now and all 20:1 or better. Can't tell me they don't each have a 5pct chance to win...

he did win 1 in 5 several years but some of those tournaments/courses were dominated by him

Yeah as I was writing it I was thinking to myself, wait, didn't tiger have a run that was basically one in five? I dunno I mean Scheffler is good, he's having one of those dominant number 1 runs, but not tiger level...

I would go with Vijay Singh....this was (still is?) his home course.

VS is across the "street" at Sawgrass CC.  All playing members (and a few others) have playing privileges at the TPCs.

Just for comparisons sake, Data golf gives him about a 12% chance of winning. The bookies love to milk bettors that fall for the hype.

  • GwrxMod changed the title to The Players Championship 2024 (*** NO LIV DISCUSSIONS ***)

Woke up early this morning here in Australia & tuned into the leadup coverage

No idea what channel it was in US but Chamblee was one of the hosts

Anyway, surprised to hear them criticising the event e.g. no longer 5th major, lack of rivalry between players for fans to latch onto, etc

Even Brandel chimed in

Odd from host broadcaster

Second ball par is the absolute gangster recovery ^

My Son did this a couple years ago. When the ball went in, he was all excited because he made a hole in one... until I (obviously) explained it was a three.

Didn't talk to me for about a month.  🏌️‍♂️

5:43 MDT

Driveway shoveled - first time, looks like several more outdoor fresh air opportunities after I get off this evening with storm continuing until tomorrow.

Coffee - first cup long gone. Second cup getting reheated.

Heading for work, who knows if anyone else will make it in?

Have I mentioned here my interest in Scottsdale?  Or Cali coast?  Or even Florida.

I hope the golf is good.

I feel bad for Monahan having to deal with guys like Rory and Xander who clearly just don't get it but think they're experts in running a billion dollar business.

it would be like Jay spending his next presser critiquing a video montage of their on course gaffes.

Making bogey has to help a little. A double would have been a complete buzz kill.

He did good to make four there.
