Akshay's shoulder problems iced Denny.  Sort of like when Jordan Spieth took a half hour to finally drop on the practice tee during the Open Championship.  It iced Matt Kucher.

I admittedly just walked in from playing myself, didn't see anything but the scorecards, but is there any back 9 Sunday performance at any time in history comparable to this one by McCarthy?

Not uncommon in sports where 2 hands are used as some feel more comfortable having the stronger hand in the position that carries most of the weight 

 

Same thing applies to people with one eye more dominant than the other e.g. a player with a dominant right eye might be more comfortable lining things up as a lefty

Kevin Streelman in 2014. Birdied his final 7 holes (back nine 28) to win the Travelers. He played his final 10 holes in 8 under.

Smylie Kauffman mentioned it ... He shot a 61 in the final round of the 2015 Shriners, including a -7 in the back 9, to get into a playoff.

Another great PGA tournament. So much on the line for these guys. Gotta feel for DM. Seven birds in a row to close the gap was impressive. The putt on 18 by AB was equally impressive. Too bad someone had to lose. Long live meritocracy. It is why we watch golf.

Then getting around to Bhatia for taking time to get taped just like Scheffler did two weeks ago: 

 

 

Not to mention that Scheffler got a full on massage before he got back to it. Imagine a guy wanting to minimize injury risk with The Masters coming up in a week. 

 

McCarthy played some insane golf to tie it up while Bhatia still managed four under with clean saves the few times he was off. If you change the players to Scott & McIlroy I doubt so many would instantly forget the entirety of the event leading up to the finish or the clutch putts by both at the last to even see a playoff. 

 

Wouldn't be surprised to see this push Denny to break heads at Augusta and play lights out from day one. Bhatia coming into the event in prime form is gravy. With all the intensity this entire season anyone floating around the top from the Tour is going to be seasoned and ready. 2024 has been a reminder of where the real competition gets it done every week.

I personally thought the chunk was exciting. That’s what makes this game so rad. The dude was playing a video game coming in, couldn’t miss if he tried. For a guy that putts like Denny the hole must have looked a foot wide.

 

Then he chunks a wedge from 105 from a perfect position, just like I WOULD DO, makes double and loses. Its a wonderful “one of us” moment after he shot a 28 on the final nine 😂😂😂😂😂

What a great back nine that was today. Seriously compelling golf. I feel bad for Denny but he still played like a stud. Hopefully he’ll grow from this. 
 

Pumped for Akshay! Really hung tough today and didn’t give up despite a blistering assault. And in fairness, if I had just made a putt to keep my Masters hopes alive I might have fist pumped my whole body out of socket 😂

 

Couldn’t have had a better lead in to Augusta! Let’s do this.

I was rooting for Akshay all the way.   While Aksay is a fast player, sometimes a bit too fast I think, McCarthy's antics with all the pre-shot things he does before every shot was nerve wracking.

The tournament showed that you don't need big names to be exciting. Drama and competition goes a long way.
