First tour pro I've seen in the Qi10 MAX.  Most of the guys are playing the core model.  What gives Sergio?

Morikawa had the MAX for a short stint, I think he has used all 3 heads now

You're correct.  I think it was only for the Sentry though at the beginning of the year.  He said he was injured at the time.

I have bee a fan since he started, glad he went through qualifying and got in.

 

I do agree, wish he would dump the FB stuff for any majors he plays.

From memory I think he used to set up older TM drivers with sliding weight pretty heelie, so not out of left field for him to use the Max?

He got in as an alternative.  He lost a playoff to make it in after making  a double bogey on the par 5 16th hole.

I agree, but I'm guessing in their contracts that they're not allowed to use stuff without their team logos on it.  No idea if thats true, but it kinda makes sense.

He actually tried it in a youtube video and immediately said, "I've got a max head at home, I'm going to have to try that."

One thing to note too, most of the tour guys are playing their respective Qi10 versions different than the normal setup.  The Tourvan just did a short IG post about building up a "tour head" for a customer, and they remove the roughly 18g back weight, replace with a 6g weight TM provides, then they add 10-12g of hotmelt in the head, usually towards the face.  Some are "core" models with cG pushed forward, some are the MAX with the cG pushed forward, sorta creating a head half way between a stock core and max.

I'm guessing he's got the TX flex L series irons shafts from LAGP, unless it's some sort of prototype. Interesting choice for sure.

With most of the staffers using the Qi10 dot model, I think the LS version came out too low spin. And based on Sergios clubs I wonder if he is still getting the full staffer treatment or just getting clubs built and shipped. Is it possible he didn't have access to the dot head?

Sergio can get anything he wants from TaylorMade at any time regardless of contracted or not. He has had an on and off relationship the past few years, but they will make whatever he wants and has even during a couple of non contract periods.  I believe he was under a limited contract last year. Not sure about '24.
