The Classic looks great from all angles but address. I have heard it is a deep face, low spin monster, but is anyone else having trouble getting past the alignment aid? I want one bad, but epic fail on the alignment aid Cleveland.

Go hit one! You'll get past the looks VERY quickly.

U keep mentioning headweight
So is the key to ensure the head itself is weighted properly? Alla hot melt or cotton balls?
And keep it short, like 44 or 43.5"?

I played a Cobra X-Speed back in the day with a x100 shaft and it was amazing. I love the weight and the feel of contact. It is so awesome...

This thread has me thinking and I am tempted to experiment again.

So I have a G2 10* and a R540 9* laying around. What would be the better choice? the PING head would need to be shimmed correct? I played both these drivers with graphite and the PING was longer with it's 460cc head. But the TM should fit a 350 shaft?

Suggestions?

Thanks.

Hey Robo

Your steel shafted driver reminded me of this video! Jump ahead to about the 4:00 minute mark and watch from there.

omg.gif ... WOW ... That's pretty eeire for me - cuz that exactly the results I have been getting over time. As soon as I get heavy - I get better ... I spray lite shafts all over the place

That's incredible ... Good catch rybo !!!!

should a person go up in loft when going to a steel shaft like that or does that not matter?
I THINK a tad higher loft would be good with steel as the spin is lower - so the increased loft would give you more launch since the spin is controlled so well ..

I am going to try a couple different heads varying in loft .. Details as they develop

Having grown up playing hand me downs and steel shafted woods this is something that should probably fit me well. I still have problems with graphite shafts and have had since my first Warbird driver in 98 i think it was. Might not want to do this to my gamer but two options come to mind.

The old 905 R comes to mind, I like the 8,5 degree/ Graffaloy EPIC combo I have in it. The shaft is worn to shreds though. X100 into that maybe.

Or... The current club. MP 630 Fastback. Maybe get a used 9,5 non adjustable version to tinker with? Should be a low spin machine. Thoughts?

Just found and switched by chance and luck to a brand new steel shafted King Cobra X SPEED steel shafted 4 wood.
This thing is an absolute dream to hit! Now I'm on the hunt for a 13* 3 wood and and gonna get it as well!
What a difference steel has made for me. Driver I'm gonna work on,any suggestions? Currently have a DST
12* with the stock made for shaft. Love the feel of this thing.

Thanks for all your wonderful posts ROBO!!

ROBO! LOVE it! I'm really liking this head (low spin, VERY forgiving, deep face that I can tee down into the wind) and think i found one that will work, just need to get dialed in on the shaft. I do think lighter is fasert, but lighte can influence how you strike the ball. After reading this- I'm considering the new Bimatrix, could be the ticket.

And let's make sure we are clear on some undeniable data- anytime you miss a fairway, it's because of your "super-techno-carbon-woven-tri weave this-nano tube-litium infused-bionic bend point that-gi joe with the kung fu grip" shaft, and every time you hit a fairway, it's because of your headcover!

Hope all is well!

Still have a pristine King Cobra 9* Deep Face with the factory Dynamic Gold.........just got it out and my God does it feel heavy (and I typically like heavy clubs)............my how the game has changed. It's sitting gathering dust with a bunch of persimmon drivers.

Robo...........you need a show on the Golf Channel, you'd be far more entertaining than some of the other crap on there!

So if one were to use a modern driver head w/ a lightweight steel shaft, how much in distance would one give up? Assuming the shaft is 44 inches, the same as my graphite shafted driver. I just truly would like to know b/c I remember in high school i just used to bomb my steel shafted persimmon headed driver. I mean, how much distance does the graphite shaft give you?

Well Robo....im off to pick a classic up.

Before I decide on the shaft I am wondering if those more knowledgeable could weigh in on something.
Since this is a bit of an experiment I don’t have a problem with a little trial and error. But Say I was to use the Mizuno shaft optimizer would the results hold any merit to help narrow down my shaft options ?

I'm not sure if that Mizuno optimizer would work or not. The nice thing about this experiment though is the steel shafts are only $13.99!!! :)

As some others have posted here, I saw Tiger Woods bring out his old steel-shafted Titleist one time, and I decided to build a driver from (Golfsmith) Snake Eyes components with a steel shaft. I still like and use that driver, and half of my fairway woods are steel-shafted.

I like your Cleveland Classic with the steel shaft. For myself, I'm considering a Classic with an Aerotech Steelfiber shaft... but will first test the Steelfiber shaft by reshafting a fairway wood and seeing how I like Aerotech's product...
