It’s nice to give discounts to men and women who serve this country, but if Military is one of Bob’s passions, why no discount from the beginning?

Discount comes at perfect timing, when you need to get rid of overstock, and then you are “contracted” into the companies fire sale? (Id love to see that “broken contract” in court). I don’t understand how this company gets praise for this. If were truly that generous there would be a discount on all products, not just the old stuff that didn’t sell. I’m sorry and don’t see myself ever buying PXG again, but if you can’t see you are doing them a favor more than PXG is doing you a favor, you really aren’t looking at the big picture.

Torch me all you want, I’ve owned and still have some PXG left, but never again.

I believe what you describe above is called a win-win. They can relieve themselves of excess inventory while not diminishing the brand and a whole slew of people have access to a product at a very affordable price.

Completely understand them not doing this on the gen2, although could see 10-15% off as a possibility in the future, although probably unlikely.

Wow. That's like the PING discount stories we've all heard about.

Hate to break it to you Bobert but once I purchase your irons, you have literally zero say as to what I do with them. Our contract is complete and I am the sole owner of them.

Don't get me wrong, that's great that they are doing that because not many other companies do, but in the end they are paying what? The cost of a brand new set of current gen irons? Although I can see some O's taking advantage of this, because your avg E6 and below can't afford this stuff.

Glock has the same policy with blue label items, which made me weary when I bought mine. I have the same opinion as you that when I buy a product its mine to do whatever I want to do with it. It would be interesting to try and see a golf club manufacturer try to enforce this rule. I could see them trying to ban you from buying future products but that seems like a PR nightmare if it gets out.

Still an awesome gesture but you're right about one thing. I don't think my E5 salary can justify this purchase.

Also, I hate Id.me login sites. That service blows and I always struggle to login smoothly. Talk about lowest bidder.

This will be an on-going promotion for PXG, even after the Gen 1 supply is gone. Parsons is a smart guy and you would have to be an idiot to take a PR dream and turn it into a PR nightmare by terminating the program just because Gen 1 supply ran out. Sometimes you just have to do the right thing.

It’s a great gesture that should have been implemented from the beginning. A no brainer, especially considering Parsons military service. It’s a shame that it took several military service men and women asking about a discount for the program to be commenced.

Yeah nah.. seems to me that once PXG had “new old stock” after gen 2 dropped, this was the perfect time to implement the program.

I’m willing to give PXG the benefit of the doubt that their reasons were guided by benevolence rather than the bottom line. It would be pretty low to use military members as a PR stunt just to move old product at a discount. There are plenty of other ways to do that without patronizing people who risk their life for others.

Their clubs are named after military occupations. 0311 means something specific, and important to Parsons.

While this is good information, it's irrelevant to analyzing a company's motivations and timing for discounting their goods.

Everyone knows Parsons was a Marine, and by now everyone probably knows where he gets his club names from. That still doesn't change the fact that he's just dumping product. It's going to be pretty hard to sell Gen 1 irons now that Gen 2 is out, and by PXG's own admission better than Gen 1. Remember the whole "we won't make a new club until we can make a better club" schtick?

And let's not kid ourselves about how awesome the discount is. Even with the discount a set of "obsolete" Gen 1's will run you about $500 more than a brand new set of TM 790s.

My mistake. I reran the calculator on PXG's site. For some reason I remember it working out to $1500 a set (4-P w/ KBS Tour 120) the first time I looked. Today it shows $980. Thats about what TM quoted me for a set of 790s 4-P with NS Pros.

I still think he's just dumping inventory, but at that price I might actually have to do some further research....

The darkness are $40 more per club. Even if he is just dumping inventory, the consumer wins.

Like the nike golf shoes at Ross/bcf. The only difference is pxg is giving this discount to military, veterans, police, firemen, etc only.

Anyone know if you can get kbs c-tapers installed through this? Went through online fitting and saw other kbs shafts but not c-tapers. Didn’t go past set configuration bc didn’t want to mess it up.

Hmmmmmm....Mildly interested. Anyone know if the Gen 1 is better than a set of P790? I ask because I'm being pretty disciplined with ho'ing ways and trying to focus my attention on the P790s. Brand new (which I didn't plan to buy brand new anyway) P790s in my spec come to about $164 a club to the door. The PXG exactly same spec are black = $185 and chrome = $140 per club.

I was set on getting P790s (probably cheaper for $164 a club) but if the Gen 1 is better than P790 I'd consider buying them brand new.

That's not a very accurate comparison, or maybe misleading is a better term, since $-tapers are a $25 upcharge for TM but not for PXG (if memory serves).

Also, I suspect you forgot to take into account TM's 15% military discount when doing that comparison. After that, the TM's would still be less even with that specific shaft selection by about $15 per club.

A more accurate comparison would look at base price. In both cases, after selecting any shaft with no upcharge, the gen1's with the discount were still $175 per club and the p790's were ~$163 before applying TM's 15% military discount or $139 after their military discount. So roughly $35 per club less for the TM's.

Go with the steelfibers and then per club it's $225 for pxg vs $180 for the p790's.

So while smalls' numbers were a bit excessive, the TM's will usually be less. Whether the difference is significant or not, I'll leave each to their own opinion on that.

Good catch. Stock P790 with 15% discount come to $138 per club and with $-tapers come out to $159 per club. PXG are $140 per club.

Also fyi, with Steelfiber, still $140 per club. Dark finish adds $40-$45 per club I think

Interesting. That's not at all what I got when I did it (for either PXG or TM but I assume you're referring to PXG).

Although I think the orig cost was $300 (steel) - which would mean %50 should be $150.. So I could have made a mistake (might have had more clubs selected than I thought). Although I'm positive graphite was more then the steel cost when I switched the shaft selection.

Regardless if this is a way to move old stock this is a tremendous gesture. It would be equivalent to titleist offering a previous model for $500 or less.

I’m sure this has been mentioned in other threads. Which PXG model would be the best comparison to a Callaway Apex pro/Titleist AP2?Considering taking the plunge
