TXG speedzone vs 410 LST

i'd say the cobra design has improved exponentially in spin reduction to live with the LST. Nothing in it.

The latest video really has piqued my interest in the SIM. Being a relatively high spin player (albeit a swing fault that has me delivering too much dynamic loft), the M5 was absolutely terrible for me with crazy high spin numbers. But his numbers were all sub-2k with the SIM while the others were all within his optimal range.

One thing I like about Matt is that he sticks with what works for him versus chasing 1 mph of ball speed or a couple of yards here or there. He hung on to the G400LST for quite some time and now he has the G410LST which is working great for him. I do envy him though for his access to all of the latest and greatest (including shafts( to test. He by far has the most consistent swing of all of the reviewers out there as well.

agreed on this. He actually hit the G400 LST longer than the 410 LST but the 410 had better dispersion. The G400 was sometimes as much as 20 yards longer. that's made me go hunt down a G400 LST to see if i can get close to 360 yards on the monitor lol

I think in these cases, just showing 3 good shots isn't going to reveal much anymore. All drivers are really good and while we can see how the spin and launch model are different... seeing Matt hit all of them roughly the same distance isn't too surprising. Would love to see them do something this year where Matt hits 20 or even 30 with each (probably over various days) and not take any bad hits away unless horrendously bad. Maybe even give Alan or another "regular" speed guy in there to see what the true distance and dispersion circles look like.

I think that if many of us had access to that studio we would end up being more consistent with our gear choices. For me, it's often about the chase. Having that "perfect club" whatever it may be on BST etc. If I had it all in front of me and could get quantitative data pointing me in a direction, it would be much easier to stick with what's working.

Yes but I mean Matt has the ability to just wander around in there and try everything. He was confident his 400LST stood up and tried all of the shafts he wanted. Going for a fit there wouldn’t provide that for me necessarily. The guys at GT near me have been brilliant and I’d recommend fittings with them to anyone. Right now it’s about me improving my swing as I think they’ve done a good job at getting my equipment pretty close to right for me. Unfortunately my ball speed could be much better but that’s on me not my TS3.

I watch all of the TXG videos when they come out, but as a high handicap golfer its a little disconnnected from my expectations. Curious for most of you. What is the typical ball speed you guys are seeing for 3wd and Driver?

I just got fit into a PXG 3wd and with some really solid contact, I was around 152 on my 3wd, which was only about 4-6mph off my Driver. That 3wd is just sweet off the deck too... Compared to my old tech that is.

The SIM is exceptionally low spin based on most videos I've seen. Rick Shiels was having trouble getting to to spin above 2K. For those high spin players, the SIM could be the answer.

With that said, yes, it's definitely more fun watching Matt smash the ball. I will say, having the average swing speed player on there is great too, because you can really see the improvement in fitting for the average player. I also enjoy watching Matt's vids because while he is a much better player than I am, we have similar playing strengths & weaknesses (short game).

I keep bringing this back but I REALLY want to see TXG (other channels would be great too, but specifically TXG) test the new Drivers vs. the LTD Pro. Given the move to high MOI/low spin from most companies now, I'd love to see how it stacks up. Based on the spy test, it's still among the highest MOI/lowest cG Drivers to this day. And given it's fade-biased tendencies, I think Matt would fit into it really well.

I honestly think its the difference between how various tech measures things like ball speed, clubhead speed, and smash factor. Matt's swing speeds seem to be somewhat exaggerated in their normal indoor testing, which I think is just how their system measures things. It took him getting to "130mph" to hit 180mph ball speed with their "perfect" 1.45 smash factor. Normally he is living in the low to mid 170's in terms of ball speed which lines up more with a 115-117mph clubhead speed, which is what we saw measured at Taylormade. Matt is long, but there are a handful of guys here on this board that could wax him pretty easily.

@Rosco1216 easily has about 10mph on him clubhead speed wise based on the numbers he has posted. I know there are a few other guys that are similar as well. I don't mean to turn it into any kind of pissing contest, I am a regular viewer and fan of TXG, but their indoor numbers are a bit wonky. Matt is awesome and can pound the ball, but he is Patrick Cantlay long, not Rory long.

The difference between ball speeds and distance can easily be attributed to hitting off grass. You do not lose much energy hitting of Mats. Your footing is good and you do not have any slippage. He is not wearing spikes so that is an easy 4 yards given up.

I only watch txg reviews nowadays simply because of Matt’s speed and consistency and the dialogue between Ian and Matt. Best reviews and fittings hands down IMO.

That being said, Matt has cracked 180mph ball speed only a handful of times I believe and realistically lives in the 115-118 club speed range. Sure I have him handily based on that but his access and opportunity to try any and every piece of equipment has me being the one who is envious.

I understand all the caveats as far as current data goes, but i'm not talking about that so much. I'm talking about the fact that Matt, at his absolute fastest, produces around 180mph ball speed. Normally he is in the low to mid 170's, which is blazing fast by average Joe standards, pretty fast for better golfer standards, and only a little above average in terms of PGA Tour numbers. But mostly i'm talking about the fact that according to their measuring, he needed 130mph club head speed to hit that 180mph ball speed, and that is wonky. It is either overestimating his club head speed or underestimating his ball speed, and I see very little evidence that it is underreporting ball speed.
And I agree @Rosco1216, I watch for the same reasons. I apologize for dropping your name in here btw.

Got it. Are you spot on with all of that. I misunderstood what you were saying. I thought you were wondering why he seemed slower outside vs. inside.

TXG uses a foresight system. I am very familiar with that system as well and use it regularly. There are couple things you will see on foresight that it overestimates. 1. Club head speed is always around 2 miles per hour faster on foresight than trackman and 2. It over estimates curve. So it will always appear that the ball is hooking or slicing more than it is. That is because it is using cameras and algorithms to calculate where the ball is going instead of tracking the ball itself. As far as carry, spin, launch etc I would say there are close enough to track man to call them the same. Yes there are variations but neither is 100% accurate at this point.

this is probably all preaching to the choir but you get my point I hope. When it reads that he is at 120-121. He is most likely in the 118-120 range really.
