Cristie Kerr Joins GOLF Channel Broadcast Team at The Honda Classic

Love her as a tough player on the LPGA...but has a long way to go on the announcing side. I can’t count how many times she has said “looks like a great shot” only to see it fly 20 yards over the flag or stop 20 yards short. She doesn’t seem to understand that just because a shot is online with the pin doesn’t mean it’s going to turn out good. She needs to learn to leave herself an out like “it’s online if it’s the right club”.... Love her but she has a lot to learn. Guess that’s why she’s out there this week.

I am going to go out on limb and say I think Kerr has a better knowledge of ball flight than the OP

She's better than Davis Love after one day. She's learning on the job, but she has a confident delivery.

Friendly group I see. I love all the assumptions made about the “OP”. Thought it was a place for a little friendly golf banter, but I guess not. Unless you have a couple thousand posts, I guess what you have to say doesn’t mean anything. For those who care (if any), I’ve been playing and watching golf for about 45 years, I’m a Navy veteran, and carry a 5 hcp. Didn’t mean anything nasty about Cristie Kerr (spell checker keeps wanting to spell it Christie, so sorry to the grammar captain), just been watching her commentary for the past three days (a retired engineer so I have a lot of time to watch golf) and noticed that she makes a lot of early calls without giving herself the option of being wrong - none of us are perfect, just something she’ll learn along the way. For those of you old enough to have seen “Stripes” - “...lighten up Francis”.

Probably feels a bit hampered having to tone it down.

”That’s well struck” (ball ends up short of the green) “well, the wind really got a hold of that”

Yes, she will need to adjust. She sounds pretty good though overall.

Thanks bscinstnct: Nice to see there’s at least one other adult in the room. Agree - I think she’ll end up being pretty good. She seems like the type that will “say it like it is”. She still has some good playing years left, but is already prepping for her next career - smart move.

True - will probably be a really good commentator when she has some freedom to speak her mind.

She is new at this, give her some time.

Kerr will get it, eventually, if she lasts long enough. Mention Patrick Reed ( Kick ass Patrick) and you'll really get a rise, LoL

Yes, well, as you see Hawk point out, unlike some of the more sophomoric element on this forum, I am a subdued and rational voice of calm and reason.

I just want her to say, “choking freaking dogs” at the Ryder Cup - and not just as an homage! Always been a Kerr fan.

More than 1 adult, but not many more...you'll soon fiugre out who "they" are. Some heavy users (myself included) have easily identifiable hot button issues and predictable tendancies....the avian septuagenerian in particular tickles me :)

Welcome. This is actually a really good group of guys. You'll quickly realize which posters have something to contribute and which ones don't add much.

BTW - I too was hoping Cristie would get a little more relaxed after the first two days. She is super fun to watch play, but a little hard to listen to. Some people aren't a good fit behind a microphone as Carl Lewis discovered.

The only thing I have noticed is that she hasn't learned/adopted the Chirkinian rule of not talking while a player is swinging.

I think she might turn out to be pretty good. I can see her being pretty blunt in a Johnny Miller type way.

And welcome Drexelius (hope I spelled it correctly!?) It really is a pretty good bunch of guys (jury is still out on Bscinstnt, but we just can’t get him to leave!).

It’s been a long winter for those of us in the northern regions, and it tends to get a bit chippy after a few months. You’ll quickly learn who to ignore and who to pay attention to.

Careful.....they eat their young on this board. They check grammar like it's a reward for it...and they believe that postings must go through a select few to be evaluated for worthiness...... welcome!

I haven't enjoyed her contributions at all. Strange to employ on-course commentators (Bones, Kerr etc.) who have never hit a shot on the PGA Tour.

I don't get that decision making. Surely there are lots of guys that are available to do this job who could provide better insight based on the fact they competed at this level in these events on these courses.

Kerr does have some experience to gain but overall she is doing alright.

I am surprised that what we haven't heard is...

"Looks well struck...... draw, draw, DRAW! ....get down!, get down!..... bite, bite, BITE!.

Kerr is fine. On-course commentators can tell us things like lie, wind and contour that we can't see on the screen. They're less valuable when commenting on the shot in progress -- "Looks good, if it's the right club". My favorite was Bob Rosburg's famous assessment, "He's got no shot".

Thanks- you all have restored my faith in golf forums. Like the whole of society, there are always a few twits who try to make life miserable for everyone, but for the most part people are good. Glad to see that civil conversation can be had between golf-loving fanatics of the world.
