Marc Leishman On 18 - 260 Out, Down 2, and Layup?

I don't think many people expected Leishman to carry it to the pin, but knowing he needs to eagle I was surprised he left himself the shot he did. He knows his game best, but one wouldn't be crazy to ask if he was really going for the win and nothing else.

I bet the man has holed more bunker shots than full wedge shots.

The guy had a great lie with the ball slightly above his feet. He can easily carry that club 245-250 and roll it up there. How hard is that to understand?

Perez just wimped out totally. 245 to the pin from the middle of the fairway. He was hitting his 3 hybrid at least that all day.

Why risk 2nd place money right? Perez and Leishman would probably fold pocket Aces in a 10 player sit-n-go because they don't want to go all in. That's obvious.

Stallings could have layed up. He went for it and won. Big difference.

I'm not sure how you can characterize that as a good lie at Torrey this past weekend. But hey what do I know. You are a couch legend who knows more than I. I had him at 40-1 50 bucks worth also had salas. As usual got 0 return. I'm not mad he didn't go for it on 18 his wedge was better suited for eagle then whatever 3 wood would have gotten him. He can't miss 6 ..5 footers over last 36 and win. As usual it's the in between that cost him not the last hole.

Tiger tried the same shot from the fairway on Saturday, dunked it. Leishman from the rough, late in the day, cool, heavy air, laying up was the proper choice. If he had gone for it, and managed to hold the green, there is absolutely no way to say he would automatically made eagle.

His lie was garbage and if you watched his layup shot you wouldve seen how mushy and muddy that lie was. There is no way anyone on tour is pulling that shot off from 250 late in the chilly evening air. That pin was ripe for a wedge in and his odds were much better for a hole out than a 250 yard 3 wood.

It's fascinating that you think that someone laying up from 260 in the rough when it's cold and not foolishly throwing it away by going for it is somehow indicative that people don't know how to win.

Tiger has 14 majors because he's shot lower scores than anyone else 14 times in major championships. If people these days didn't know how to win, then he would have won a whole lot more than 14. Similarly, if, for example, Doug Sanders could putt from 2 and a half feet, Jack would have only won 17. People have choked in majors for a long time and I suspect that they will continue to do so.
