Especially the blades ;)

Essentially a few theories are that the roi was too low, they were losing money on equipment, and/or they returned focus back to soft goods because that’s what they are good at and they were losing market share. I’m sure someone else can chime in with another theory or two.

Such a shame. At one point I had the Covert 2.0 Tour driver which wasn't bad at all. These Pro Combos I picked up are legit.

I think it largely had to do with Tiger's general absence for many years following the "scandal" and through his injuries. He was their #1 ambassador and even though he had good seasons or two following, he lost a lot of favor AND presence.

Another thing with Nike is the brand is highly built around elite performance. This seems to fit with how insanely good the pro-level gear was but the GI ... wasn't so great. You can't sell yourself as a brand for elite athletes and also be like "oh yeah, here's some junk for the slobs that kinda suck."

Unfortunately “not bad at all” doesn’t really cut it, especially when you can make massive margins selling shirts for $80 that cost $2 to make!

I can't remember it and my swing wasn't all too great at that time. Rory bombed it? I mean really driver tech has really picked up recently. Their irons are sick though.

I had the original Covert Tour, and to this day it is still responsible for my longest ever drive (352 yards). It stayed in the bag for a good 4 years or so, until I decided to try a Vapor Fly. From the move to the VF and now onto my D3, I still don't think I've really picked up any yardage on the Red Mist, maybe 10 yards on a normal contact at the very most. In fact if I had to give a good logical reason why it wasn't still in the bag, I'd probably struggle - in fact one of the things I like most about my D3, is it reminds me of the old Covert.

I think the colour and the noise (not SQ loud, but it was still loud) put a few people off, plus Nike's standard shaft offerings were a bit poor - but get one custom fitted, and they were as good as anything else out there.

Irons and wedges I'd still put them up at the very top, and my VR Pro / Engage combo isn't leaving the bag until I have no grooves left. Sadly their best offerings were either blades or Player's Cavities, and as we have often discussed, that isn't the biggest part of the market by a long stretch, and their normal GI stuff was average.

I'm struggling to replace the RZN Tour Platinum as my ball of choice as well. The Tour B XS is damned close, but I prefer the Platinums round the greens.

I’m playing the exact same set up...and like you said it’s all about trust, I can hit any shit with them.

I’ve tried to replace them every year but they are the two clubs I just can’t replace.

Local coating shop here in San Antonio. Got the golf shop to add the white dot when they installed the shaft and grip.

3 coats, $30.

I think that's a win

Nice to see the Nike thread still has some life and some of the clubs remain in play. I like my bag setup right now, top to bottom, although it is no longer 100 percent Nike.

Oh Nike brethren, really getting tempted by the new Mizuno MP20 HMB to replace my Vapor Pro Combo. Right now I am playing x100 in the irons, but feel like I don't have the clubhead speed to be as consistent as I used to be. Anyone playing KBS, not C Taper, in an S or S+ in their Nikes or maybe a soft stepped x100 120g. Never really liked the s300 or I would go that direction. Just unsure if it is time for new technology or just new shafts. Hate to leave the swoosh, but it may be time. Any input or suggestions appreciated

I'm looking for some modus tour130x to put in mine. modus shafts felt so amazing in the p790s when I tried them out. but the heads are amazing. I have 0 intention of switching them out.

I got fitted into the 105s when I got my old PXG's - that these replaced in my bag. Absolutely loved the feel of them and after I decided that I definitely was keeping the Vapors in the bag, pulled the trigger on that.

The feel of the Nippons are just so smooth.

What about S400s? Usefully in the middle of X100 and S300 flex wise, and feel smoother than both imo. Both my sets of Nike irons have had them fitted, they go very well.

Just regripped my irons to matching colors. I was hoping to get new grips from Ebay, but they were all sold before I bought them. I put white logo on vpc but they were ribbed. Luckily I had 1 set of white logo grips I put on all of my engage wedges. So I swapped them to vapor pro, swapped volt from pro to vpc, and put ribbed grips from vpc to engage wedges.
