I hit it pretty straight with the irons. But my swing is flatter than it should be. Will fix it over the next little bit

Has anyone switched to the IE1 from I25s? If so, was it worth the change? More distance, forgiveness, consistency? I found a proshop selling the I25's at a very discounted price and I would like to put steelfiber i95s without breaking the bank. If the difference is negligible, I'll probably go for the I25s. I would love to go test the two clubs myself but there isn't a golfstore within 30-40 minutes from where I live (Gainesville, FL). Thanks.

Also from what I understand is that the i25 was about a club shorter than most comparable irons on the market. I came from 2nd gen anser irons. The iE1 is more forgiving and softer feeling.

I am still loving my I's . So much so I gave my old set, JPX 800's, to a friend last week. I have played Cleveland RTX CB's for about a year now and am considering going with Glides with the same shaft and silver dot as my irons.

the shaft in the Glides isn't bad at all.. see if you can try some before you pay to have the shafts changed.

I had Project X wedge shafts in my Anser wedges, I have the stock shafts in my glides... i like them better..

Ok... So I have the Ping S56 with the KBS Tour X Stiff. Really liking the looks of these irons and I cant wait to hit some very soon. My question is I want to try to go down to a lighter shaft those KBS have me tired if I play 36 :-). Talking with Ping they suggested the ZZ65 or maybe the CFS? I just turned 50 and I am wondering if its time I dial it back a bit and go with just a stiff shaft and something lighter. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks

I had my cfs set reshafted with zz65. Slightly stiffer but much better ballflight for me. I used to play kbs tour as well and like these better. But I have played zz65 for a long time....turning 51 in a few months.

My update. With some neck and tendonitis my move might be to graphite. The zz65 isn't TOO stiff but is more work than I think I want to put in. Won't get any younger. Great heads just may move in to recoils.

Do you want the graphite for vibration issues or just to get the lighter flexes?

I went with 5-PW and glide wedges from 48,52,56,60. I have never played ping because I always required a thin topline. I demoed my ping I Irons on my Skytrak against my Callaway 2013 x forged irons. Consistency was better length was better and I have been able to be on the course in February 7 times. these are the most forgiving Iron that I have ever played and they feel better that my forged clubs.

I customed my set

5 24

6 28

7 32

8 36

9 40

PW 44

GW 48

AW 52

SW 56

LW 60

Standard lie and length, but Honestly I have had a couple shots that I looked at my club after the shot and said wow that should have been horrible, only to walk onto the green and see the ball lost almost no distance and stayed online.

The only thing I have to say is the swing weights I ordered where all off I ordered D2 in 5-8 and D-3 in 9, PW and D-4 in the rest.

I had to custom weight all of them when I got them. Kinda weird for a company that custom builds every set.

What are you yardage gaps between all your clubs

10-12 yards as I know I need more work on my skytrak to really dial in the yardages.

GW and AW? Never heard of an AW.

AW is a very common expression for a gap wedge. Both Callaway and Taylormade use this verbiage.

Such as I've seen it explained, "AW" may mean "Approach Wedge."

The amusing thing about four and now five wedge bags is it's almost entirely a creation of average players. For most of golf history, there's been a 6° or even 8° gap between the PW and the "sand iron" at the pro level. In the 60s, it was 52/58 or even 60, around 1980 it was 50/56 or 58, and it eventually got to 48/56 in the 90s.

Ultimately, it's really "horses for courses." Whatever works for each person is what works. Golf is definitely not "one size fits all" :)

I've been using 5* gaps between the short irons and wedges going back about 25 years now. To me 4* gaps in the wedges is crazy, and you won't find many pros using such gapping (although there are exceptions).

No, but combined with continued professional use of 6° or greater gaps between wedges, it indicates a certain validity. At least for those who subscribe to that theory. ;)

I totally agree. It's just back then nobody had a "lob" wedge. 56* was pretty much the limit... Of Course a PW was usually 49*/50* back then too.

In the 60's (and even the 70's) there weren't many 58* or 60* wedges in play at any level.

Typical bag of a pro in the 60's was

Driver, 3 wood,1-PW, SW (56*) and putter. 5 wood sometimes in place of a 1 iron.

If the players of old played with today's clubs in today's courses, they'd have 4 wedges too. Players are longer, gaps are created, 4 wedges are a necessity for most.

I totally agree. It's just back then nobody had a "lob" wedge. 56* was pretty much the limit... Of Course a PW was usually 49*/50* back then too.

That's one of those urban myths, for lack of a better term, that's been created by (IMHO) the age of many folks on golf forums (or their parents), and the point of time that's fixed in their minds from their early days of golf. Plenty of early Sand Irons were 58° or 60°, something that continued even into the 60s and 70s.

A classic wedge collector acquaintance from another golf forum has spoken many times of the absurd number of 60° and 58° wedges in his collection...

I play a 45 degree pitching wedge. As that's the loft of the new set. So I carry a 47 degree wedge bent a degree weak. It's more like a weak second pitching wedge. Then my normal 52 and 56 wedges.

I never have been able to get along with a 60 degree wedge. Dunno why.
