Just search for his name on GHIN by Name and State and you will have your answer. Either he hasn't been posting rounds in about a million years to get to the point where he can shoot 41 or he has been putting in bs scores

Your club should do what one local club by me does for the M-G tournament. Guest must have had at least 10 rounds posted in the last 12 months, and the golf committee reserves the right to reduce a guest's handicap downward after extraordinary performance in the first 2 of 5 matches. It will not eliminate the sandbaggers (they can still post BS rounds) but lets them know they are being watched.

By the way, my opinion is this particular guest was your stereotypical member-guest sandbagger who just happens to shoot the 9 holes of his life during a match with a lot of pressure, money on the line, etc. You got hosed.

Consistently, NO. What did he shoot on the other 9? 55? Or another 41? My guess is that it's closer to the 55 than 41...

And was that his score, or the team score. Big difference.

You do realize that anyone who tees it up is allowed to make par on any given hole, right. And with a 32, that's most likely 2 pops for a net eagle. Heck, even a bogey gets him net bird. If he's taking lessons and getting better, then yes, he is capable of shooting 41. The handicap is based on 18 hole scores, and it looks like he just happened to string together 9 good ones. The other 9 (if he were to complete 18) would most likely bring him back closer to his cap. Would he beat his cap? Probably, and that's not a stretch either for a 32 that is getting better. It's easy to cut strokes by managing the course better, making better decisions off the tee, playing a course with less OB than his home course, not having as many water hazards or forced carries as his home course. Heck, that could be worth 8 shots right there!

This BS is the only reason I will never play in a golf league. I've been sandbagged a few times and I just don't enjoy the handicap system. If I'm a better golfer than you, you lose. End of story. I've worked harder to get better and have more ability, why do I need to adjust my score so the guy who chugs 30 beers and I can play "competitively?"

If this was Westeros and we were having it out with our swords, I wouldn't switch to my left hand to make it fair, you're head is coming off. Someone needs to lose. Not everyone can get a ribbon or deserves a ribbon.

I will also ask if he putted everything out. I've played in MG's where is a hole-by-hole match. If the other team is out of it on a certain hole, that 15 footer for bogey becomes good real quick. Or when his partner wins the hole and he has a putt for bogey, it becomes "good" and is written down as such. Would the 32 capper have made it? Who knows. But a 3 putt with his pops would have won the hole, so it gets written down as a bogey. When this is done, it actually will help with future MG's because when the tournament scores are reviewed next year, there is NO WAY he comes back as a 32.

We halved a few matches and rallied on the last day only to find out that one of the teams we tied beat us by a point and won the flight.
[/quote]

So, how did your match them go? You tied them? How did he play against you guys? Sounds like, if it was tied, that he and his partner played to their cap and so did you guys...

I'm a 19 handicapper and I've shot a 40 and a 41 once each in my entire golfing career (i've only been playing 4 years so maybe not a huge sample size) and both involved a couple pretty lucky bounces (for example one involved making a 40' putt where I was just trying to lag it up close and got lucky and put it in). My typical 9 holes is anywhere from 45 - 48.

I think I had 6 birdies throughout 63 holes in our member guest. That being said I don't think I shot under 87 on any cumulative 18 hole round during the tournament.

Might want to ask Charlie Sheen about that. My guess is it wasn't worth it.

I think you almost have to expect a sandbagger at these things. I'm not a club golfer but I'm sure there are guys just as shady in the clubs than in my league. It sounds like you got really hosed but there's nothing you can do about it. It happened to me last year when a 26 hcp guy shot 40/42 in our championship. All that effort cheating to win a jacket and a couple bucks. It is what it is.

It's possible but certainly not probable. I think there was a little bagging going on there, viewing it from the outside, and I would be a bit upset with that outcome too. You can usually tell if someone is pulling one over after the round in the way they act. If he was quiet and the member was embarrassed, then that leads me to believe something was fishy. They probably thought they needed to cheat to be competitive but then when they ended up winning, they realized how silly it was to inflate the guest's handicap by however many strokes.

Life's a sand filled beach and so were this scumbucket's pockets. No freaking way in H E double hockey sticks can a 32 hdcp card a 41, not even if had 'round of my life'.

Just have to accept in these type events going to get pencil whipped, sand bagged, etc. Unless want to compromise own integrity and do the 'when in Rome' thing, just have fun drink more and enjoy the day, as planning on winning any event like this with players as you described won't happen often if ever, sorry to say.

A while ago I started playing in a 9 hole league. A scratch player was giving me 16 strokes.

After 5, I was one or two over and he was even. Then the rains came and we didn't get to finish.

Possible? Yes. Likely? No.

That said, I'm a 13.7 now.

On the surface, it doesn't pass the sniff test. But I have seen REALLY strange things happen over 9 holes. I once got paired up with a stranger at a local muni that chipped in 4 freakin' times for par on the front nine. After the first couple of times, I actually started getting irritated, just because I felt like something really strange was going on ... He still ended up shooting in the high 90's, however.

The big question is what the rest of his scores in the MG look like, or if he happened to fire that 41 at the precise time needed to win the flight.

My league partner just got serious about golf this year, he is a legit 14 for nine holes. He had never shot under 50 for nine holes in his life, until a few weeks ago. He got a couple lucky bounces on the first two holes, then played solid golf and put a 42 on the poor guys we were playing. The last 2 weeks he has been back in the fifties.

Not saying you didn't get bagged, but if it was just one round with great improvement, it is possible.

Only problem I see is, as a 32 hdcp, that means best scores are around 105 or slightly more...Never have I seen anyone shoot that high on a good day and chip in let alone not chili dip or blade their chips

If the 30+ skulled, chunked, hooked, and sliced his way to his score, then yea----maybe he got lucky. I was a 30 once---the game I played then and the game I play now---NOT the same game. Not even close.
If I were a 30+ and shot that score--I'd leave the course and by a handful of lottery tickets real quick.
