I would rather say we all are pretty close to the stars, but world, especially the world of us humans is a pretty messy place to figure out. The advancements of science gives you nice little answers, formulas of the laws of physics. But even though there are ”facts”, like Covid statistics, ppm’s on carbon hydrates in the atmosphere and shootings in Scandinavia (rising) there are no simple oughts from ises, as the philosopher Hume said. Its bloody hard to figure out what to do, given all the facts and opinions around a serious problem.  But science, media, and well, most of us, don’t really like reactions like ”This is messy, I don’t really know”. So we say stuff that sounds like facts anyway. Thats pretty human.

It was a 95* day with a 15 mph cooling breeze and this place is simply enjoyable. You're not going to walk it as it takes over an hour just to drive from 1 to 18 in a cart. It's really spread out.

 

 

This is the Par 4 7th hole. Its around 4* downhill and while measuring 365 plays to around 330. Anywhere past the 150 marker will hit a downhill area and run to within 20 yards short of the elevated green. The red buildings past the green is a real working ranch and you can see the freshly baled hay in the meadow past the house and barn.

This pic is the 13th. Par 3 carved out of the side of the hill with a creek running behind the green. It was 177 playing 164 around 6* downhill.

 

The short video is a panoramic view from the tee box on the Par 5 12th. Great hole that gets skinnier as you get closer to the green.

 

Admittedly I'm not a photographer nor videographer. Hopefully they will suffice for my obligation to the Grille brethren and give you an idea how cool this place really is. If you're out this way you need to give it a try. 🍻

Well that was a buys weekend of golf. 

 

Took Friday off work to play a wonderful course about an hour from my home called Stoke Rochford.

 

Had a great day out with some friends, played some decent golf (game is certainly improving rapidly) and overall a very relaxing and enjoyable day out. 

 

Saturday I played with my usual group and again had a very solid round. I decided during the week to commit to changing my putting grip from a traditional style to left hand low and this round was to be my test/baseline for it. Putted surprisingly well and pace control was better that anticipated which was a pleasant surprise. 

 

Sunday I played a matchplay match against Wifey, the loser was to buy dinner that night at the restaurant. By the end I felt bad for her as I had my best round in about 2 years. I shot a 4 under 68, made up of 5 birdies and 1 bogey. 3 birdies were back to back through holes 7 to 9 and I missed putts from inside 10 feet on both 10 and 11 to continue the run.  I just couldn't miss a shot and as wifey said, when I bring my A game she just can't compete as she's hitting hybrids and mid irons into greens and I'm hitting wedges, and with the putter getting hot she really can't compete even with shots. 

 

I'm still a little lost as to what happened. I'm not naïve enough to believe that changing my putter grip is some miracle fix for my occasional putter woes but the putter face felt a lot more stable through the stroke and my tendency to turn the toe over slightly through the stroke and thus pull putts was gone. Time will tell but I'm encouraged to continue with my commitment. 

 

I'm playing after work this evening with my nephew, he's expressed and interest in golf over this year and has been to the range and on the course a few times with friends but he asked me last week if we could have a round this week. Should be a lot of fun and will be good to catch up with him as he's not only my nephew but also my godson and since he recently bought his first house with his girlfriend I've been instructed by wifey to get all the gossip as we've not been able to see them due to covid.

Had a pretty good golf week last week. Wednesday played the 9 and dine with my wife and another couple. This time we had 4 person teams because we had a good turnout. I also suspect there was some hell raising since we won it 3 weeks ago with a 2 person team. We played with this wonderful couple who we played with before. shot the same as we did on the 2 person thing ( -1 ) . Main thing is my wife hit some outstanding shots and made the birdie putt. I had built her a new putter. We were watching a Tour event and one of the players was putting with an older White Yes! putter. The C grooves showed up nice on TV and she thought they were neat. She asked if we could find one. I told her I had one Anser style called a Dianna. I went out in the building and found the head. Ended up building a Stuey Special for her. Sensicore shaft and a Teal colored Ping BB-55 grip. She loves it. She was used to an Anser style anyhow having putted with a Ray Cook Anser style for a while. She plays mostly high lofted fairways and high lofted hybrids. I did find in my stash a Hogan Radial ladies shafted 7 & 8 irons. Created a sorta monster. We ended up tying for 1st in that event. And yes some grumbling ensured among the sore losers. I told them next time I would play my persimmons to give them a chance. 

 

Friday ended up playing ( as hot as it was) with some of my old team scramble partners. Played regular golf. Did ok off my ball shot 77 ( +5).  Played the shootout Saturday with a Pick Up team of Tourist golfers. Had a ball shot -3 which did not do much because -10 won it. I knew I was not turning good on the ball but was not hurting. Figured out Sunday what was wrong. I was not hurting but was physically drained I think in part due to the excessive heat and the fact I played 45 holes in 4 days which is a stretch for me. But I was pain free. Went back on my routine of practice therapy. Went and hit about 20 balls yesterday and practiced short game itself for about 2 hours. Also worked with my Skilz trainer stick. Rain today but I did get up early ( my SOP ) and swung the Skilz trainer about 25 times and hit some whiffle balls off my mat with the 60*. Then the rain came about 8:00. But I am getting into shape and best thing is no pain or stiffness and I have not been taking the CBD gummies that much

              looks like keeping up with the rehab is working for you !

I'm starting to get some real cabin fever, no rounds or practice sessions since the last weekend of July. Having a puppy at home is not only time consuming, but I'm at my physical limit with this sleep schedule. I know it gets better, but it is SO ROUGH right now.

The pleas from all other family members to get a dog into the family that has gone on for decades... 

well, my son thought it was a good idea to get a kitten as company in his small apartment during early Covid. Well, the little fellow drove him out of the appartment back to his old parents, and the cat with him. It ended up him selling the little cat, and well, I was kind of sorry to see that little sometime tiger, sometime sleeping in ones lap guy leave...

That's really unfortunate. Pets really are great to have around, and as everyone I know likes to joke, puppies are training babies in a sense. I can't blame the little guy, he doesn't have the privilege of wearing diapers and can't sleep through the night. We definitely would not have been able to have a pup without COVID and remote work, but it's tough trying to work and keep up on him during the day. 

 

The one thing I forgot about new dogs is that you also have to wait about 2-3 months before their shots clear them for activity around other dogs and the general public.

Yep it is coming along. Went to my regular MD just now and he is a Cardiologist Specialist. I do not have heart problems but he is a golf bud who takes care of me. We did the thing today where I can see my heart beating etc he was training a new lady so I was the Gineau Pig so to speak. He said my heart was in good shape and for me to keep up my exercise routine because I had actually lost 15 LBS or so. He had seen me on the range last Friday hitting balls and he said I was turning good on the ball. I got my workout in early about 6 AM in the yard with the Skilz Ball trainer and hitting the 60 off the mat. My appt was at 8 AM so I got my workout in before the rain and it is raining now

Oh I know we have always had dogs. Last year we adopted a 11 year old Terrier mix whose owner had passed. About a month ago we adopted a French Bulldog  puppy he is only a year old his former owner was a friend and could not care for him. He is a 23 LB ball of fire but a good guy. The Terrier has been teaching him the ropes of being house broken and he is doing good. They walk well together outside.

Over the last two days our rain gauge says over 4 inches, and we were so dry that my 

my yard is not even spongy  feeling. More on the way this evening,  so we'll see. Have not been to the course for over a week now, so i am hoping to get there tomorrow.

Right hip was replaced Monday. Spent Monday night at the hospital and came home

yesterday. Started Physical therapy today. Onward and upward!

Alrighty.  Check that off the "To Do" list.  Figured you were getting close, recall the mention of mid-August.  Hopefully all went according to plan and you're not in too much discomfort.  Do you have a bell to summon Cobi?  Of course with cell phones, all you have to do is text your requests.  

 

You'll be back out to the golf course in no time.

Glad to see you made it ok=== Love the attitude of "onward and upward" . I sorta adopted the same attitude. One piece of advice do not push it like I did ==== One of my Docs told me--- With most folks he had to push them to get them to exercise and rehab themselves with me he had to get me to back off. Yep I have always been WFO when I get into stuff. Yeah I had some self caused setbacks but backed off and healed up. I had actually thought at first I would be getting back in a truck part time and honestly wanted to. Of course with my permanant nerve damage it will not happen now. Yeah the guys still call me from time to time. Yesterday during the rain we watched a show on Discovery where they were demoing a big steam plant in NC. I knew the plant and the company doing the job. Saw some of the drivers with that company that I knew. I also checked the date of the show and had seen those drivers at Nucor Steel hauling that stuff in. Yep brought back memories for sure especially when the show host rode with one of the drivers I knew in his truck. At that time I missed it and got into one of my little depression bouts which happens from time to time. I have had 3 Docs and 2 Pastors tell me that when one had Traumatic injury that the depression happens. I get through it.

 

As to my nerve damage yesterday was a good example. I was at my regular Doc ( a golf bud) and he has all my paper work because I trust him and he knows. I was up on the table when they were shooting film of my heart. The position I was in made my right leg twitch uncontrolled. Yep I can move some ways and my legs and feet will twitch. On the course it can be unpredictable--- I can tell when my bottom end is not working right because with my upper body strength my brain tells my body to pull through it and I will hit a pull hook. I can not predict this and I may have 3 or 4 good holes and then the pull hooks. One of the reasons I have really worked on my short game and it has saved me as it always did in the past. But I look at it on the positive side at least I am playing golf or attempting to and am not in a wheelchair. So I am greatful to attempt to play at all. But most of the time I am relishing being retired and getting older unless I get my little bouts. I am also able with the Lord's help able every Sunday to climb the 23 steps in the balcony to the sound board in my church. 

 

Rad I will give you a silver lining in the cloud--- Everyone I have seen with a hip replacement when they heal up turns good on the ball and picks up distance, Yep do exactly what the Docs and Therapists tell you to do and you will be fine

 Good points Stu. I intend to do exactly what the doctors and therapists recommend as they 

 have lots of experience with this and have seen just about everything. And, yes, there is a

big difference between someone like me; who is having an elective surgery to improve my

quality of life and someone who has suffered a sudden serious injury and faces a long

uphill battle to recover from it.
