Throwing and smashing his club. Great example to young kids Rory. He gets worse by the day with his self entitled behaviour. Wonder how the top 4 quitters are enjoying their open :)

Are you mad that they decided not to play the olympics to a point where yo wish them bad luck or something? I saw Rory's "incident" and it was not much really. 2 seconds of intense frustration where he threw his club to the ground and that was it. No swearing, no kicking, no scene really. The club just happen to hit the wrong spot I guess, but nothing we don't see once in a while in tournaments. Not sure what's to write about. Besides, showing short burst of passion like that may actually grow the sport with younger kids. Why don't you ask younger players who they prefer to watch, Vijay or Rory.

I could care less that he threw his club, but you can't say it's good for kids to see. Young golfing kids mimic everything young pros do...go to any range want watch how many kids hit a shot and finish their swing one handed if it's not perfect.

Good Christ not everything is or has to be "for the good of the game/giving back/grow the game".

 

Parents grow the game BTW, not tour players. They might spark some interest but if parents don't participate with their kids it will largely not stick no matter who acts like a perfect gentleman on TV.

 

I can't wait until a player is mid hatchet strike and a caddie screams THINK OF THE CHILDREN.

But evidently when you're among the bigger names of your sport, the standard is different. Or is it? I agree that sports personalities shouldn't be role models, but somewhere along the line that became not the case. No one wants to believe these guys aren't perfect and are human.

As a father, I'm certainly no fan of Rorys' antics, however, it's up to us parents to show our kids that there is another way, and introduce them to the benefits of the infectious endearing role model of people like 'The Beef'!!!

Rory went the I am an athlete bullxxxx Nike route and he is just not as good as he once was. Golf is a feel game and he does not have it anymore...still will win but the natural swing and ability are gone.

In all seriousness though, speaking as someone who when I was a kid broke a club, breaking one maybe isn't the worst thing in the world. I did it once and that has been it. I learnt quite a valuable lesson from all of it.
