About twice as many players at +2 or higher than there are under par.

Brutal. Are course conditions at Monterey Peninsula and Spyglass Hill that bad?

Here is the NOAA forecast for today:

Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. High near 62. Windy, with a south wind 25 to 31 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

So yeah the wind and rain are probably making it difficult out there

Ah, the annual AT&T Tournament rag fest. Maybe this board could just re-cycle the thread from past years. Save us all some time.

Really, guys, if you don't like it, don't watch.

Other points: Murray is really funny, especially if you can see him in person at the tournament. Chris Berman is a brave man: looks bad in golf clothes, has a terrible swing, and showcases all of it on national TV. The ams who didn't finish today are going to have a tough time tomorrow morning what with the parties they'll be going to and all.

Looks like Cantlay has had a decent start given the conditions.

The thing with Berman is he thinks he's very good. All you need to do is see his vanity index. I'm not sure what your handicap is good Sir but I'll guarantee, without ever having met you, that your number is real and you'd clean his clock...even if you're a 20 handicapper. Every YouTube some of his legendary rants?

Bowditch's group is featured today and they just ignore the elephant in the room. These golf telecasts are a complete joke.

I think the weak celebrity field tells us that A listers don't want to be a part of it and these C listers need the publicity.

Imagine a list containing the likes of: Bill Clinton, Jack Nicholson, Condoleezza Rice, Michael Douglas, Gary Sinese, Billy Crystal, Sharon Stone. all A listers but all have much better places to play.

I saw this quote about A-List celebs and thought I woke up in 2001.

I just saw this and since the wife is out of town I think I'll find Basic Instinct and watch it on the big TV - and not because Michael Douglas was mentioned.

Nice to come here and see a post that provides the day's inspiration - not that thinking of getting my forearms together or my right shoulder down and around can't be inspiring.

Not to get too philosophical but this tournament is exactly what you would get if you rolled Clint Eastwood out of his crypt and told him "make it great again".

Back when this tournament wasn't an unbearable mash of shat; it was interesting to see the stars of the day:Jack Lemmon, Bing Crosby, Clint Eastwood, Gerald Ford, Bob Hope, Mickey Rooney, Van Johnson, Lefty O’Doul and Joe DiMaggio, Dean Martin, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Johnny Weissmuller, Sean Connery, George C. Scott, Mike Douglas, John Brodie, Charles Schulz and many other big names play in the clambake.

TWO PROBLEMS:

1) The current "A " list stars of the day in the field are extremely limited. Mark Wahlberg...maybe?

2) Part of the allure used to be this rare opportunity to see these stars out of character, playing the game and giving the public a rare glimpse. In our current age, the public can get all the glimpses they want - just a click away.

Seriously, what makes the tour think ANYBODY wants to watch some unknown rich as hell schlock (ie CEO of XYZ Investment firm etc.) slap it around in the mud for a 91? Why is this being shown? To stroke their ego? Shoot this puppy!

47 C E O's in this tourney! Goin from a celebrity tournament to high dollar to play tournament.

I can't tell you how thrilling it is for me to watch CEOs duff their way around a course I couldn't afford if I saved all year.

I hear ya man. The dollar speaks in this event. I started attending in 77' lots of fun , lots of real celebrities. Then the tournament director changed in the 90's and so did the mission goals. Now I believe it's upwards of 50k to play. I'll still watch for the nostalgic effect, but that whole area has changed.
