I generally detest rooting specifically for a player - I like good golf and I don't care who it is playing well, in general.

But I gotta admit, I secretly root for Sergio and Rahm. I don't think it has anything to do with their nationality (although there was that fling in Spain that will forever be in my library...and that foreign exchange student from Spain in HS...maybe I do have a soft spot for Spain...but I digress), but I find myself rooting for those guys.

Crap, I loved seve and la nariz too...I'm a closet Spain groupie!

Anyway, those guys - and I root for spieth too due to a personal connection - however tenuous.

I must admit that I'm a fan of "The Armada" as well. It all stems from Seve of course, but I like Jose-Maria, Sergio and the new kid on the block, Jon Rahm.

For what it's worth, in 2013 tiger curb stomped the PGA Tour with 5 wins including The Players...

To give y'all context, rickie fowlers pga tour career TOTAL is 4 wins including the players...

This was the most recent year Tiger was entirely healthy...

He still has a chance to catch and pass Snead though Jacks 18 seems a very long shot...

Anyhow, to answer the op:

Sergio(his natural swing gives him a chance to "vijay" his way thru his forties)

Been a Jason Day fan from his Nationwide tour days. Same with Chappel.

DJ is my favorite though and not because he's #1, since he got on tour. The dude has had his heart ripped out on a lot of occasions and is a bit if a redemption story. Sure he has his problems but so does John Daly and everybody loves big John

No one right now. I like a lot of players - the typical top guys - but I want another one to come along who loves to compete and thrives on beating the competition into the ground.

To me - too many players are too friendly and buddy-buddy on the course. I don't want to watch a bunch of friends playing competitively against each other for millions I want to see the Michael Jordan of golf come along now that Tiger's not that guy any more. I want to see someone get pissed when he messes up and fist pump when he drains a 30 footer. I want to see someone whose sole reason for playing on the weekend is to destroy everyone.

I know they ALL play to win but I want a fierce competitor to come along again, not a well-mannered, quiet, hold-your-emotions, gentleman.

I take it you weren't a fan of Retief?

I didn't 'pick' Tiger as my favourite player. He simply left me no choice. Couldn't help but fall in love with his game, passion and his determination to win every event he played in. I'm sure down the road someone else will also leave me with no choice but for now, I'd rather go golfing than watch. These days I only watch when I could use a nap after a long week.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the incredible talent on tour, but I'm not in love with it. Tiger took me on a ride that I didn't even know existed.

I'm finding it tough to watch the men play this year. This is the least I've watched televised golf since probably the late 80s when I was just learning what golf was. Jack was before my time, although my first golf memories were around the time Jack won in '86. I loved watching Nick Price the year he won his majors. After that, my favorite for a few years was young Phil. His short game was incredible then. It still is, but I think he took more risks when he was younger. I loved the guys that worked the ball or were short game wizards. Loved Pavin.

Now I don't know. The sound the strike makes when Stenson, Rory, and Sergio hit irons is amazing to me. I love to watch those 3, but they don't have the short game magic to back it up. Tiger had both. Right now I'm just waiting for the next "once in a generation" guy to come along, but there isn't one on the radar.

Big Adam Scott fan. If he wasn't such a hack with the putter he'd be awesome. Also like the Matsuyama, JT and Rickie dynamic. The three seem to be in a similar place in their careers, have very different games but equal talent, and very different personalities. I look forward to them battling it out at the top on Sundays in the coming years as the older generation drops off a bit.

Huge fan of Adam Scott and a few others. Was warming up to J Rahm but the club throwing at Colonial did it for me. Dude needs to quit acting like a big Titleist baby. I can't wait to see how he acts in his first Ryder cup when he "hears" something. He will go full meltdown and lose the next 4 holes. Big Thomas Pieter fan as well. My 16 yr old son is 6'5" so I've started paying attention to really tall players to see how they play...and yes I married for stock

Thomas is the first golfer I've ever met face to face that was taller than me. I'm a fan. I also like his fellow Belgian Thomas Detry.

Rahm's approach at the 71st at Colonial around the tree to six feet for a birdie did it for me.

The big difference being J Daly isn't an incredible D Bag
