US Open: Erin Hills

Even if it "equals out" -7 is just too easy after round 1 for the US Open.

 

-7 was leading after round one at Baltusrol in 1980.

-8 was the winning score. There's a lot of golf left.

I also feel like a bit of this is by design by the USGA. Don't know if they want E winning it. Might not make for as good of ratings for the non golf obsessed people like ourselves.

Wind doesn't look at that strong yet. I bet by the end of the afternoon rounds the wind picks up and the 7,800 yards shows its teeth a bit more.

 

Kevin Maguire tweeted it to be playing 7,385 yards today, FYI.

Some days are easier than others, also law of averages, if I'm not mistaken the lowest tournament scores ever are right around -28 but guys have still shot -13 or -14 for one day.

I have question for you rules gurus: Martin Kaymer, on the 4th Hole, second shot, did he ground his club in a hazard?

(sorry for the horrible picture quality)

 

 

What part of those pictures looks to you like the club is grounded?

 

I saw it in real time, it looked like he grounded the club a couple of times while addressing the ball on the side hill lie.

 

It could just be my old eyes playing tricks on me. Don't worrying, I'm not calling it in, lol.

Grounding the club means actually grounding the club. That is long grass and he can easily put the club a few inches in it without grounding it.
