Just got my birthday present today. GMax with Copper X-torsion shaft. had a brief range session and then played 9 holes.

Its definitely bigger. It sounds awful. Very tin can like. Worse than the G or G30.

The shape inspires confidence at address.

The driver is high launching. Very high.

Hit 5/7 fairways - pretty good for me. Distance hard to judge at 46 degrees and wet and windy...

So far i like it, more to follow later.

Good stuff. I'm hoping to jump on TM soon to try the Max out.

Did that last Sunday. For some reason consistently pulled it left. Had to back off. I'd pull 5 Max's left then hit 5 G30's pretty straight down the line on TM. The store rep thought it was comical. I was pissed. I'll go back and try again. Would be interested if you pulled the Max.

Will let you know but I basically never pull a shot. Push’s and hooks I can do on command with any club. I’m currently playing the Ls so I’d imagine I’ll get along with it, just gotta see how the numbers stack up. I know one person from the board who I haven’t seen post it lately who loves it.

I gave the LST model a good gander for about 5 minutes from every angle. It is a damn good looking head, even with the turbulator stuff. The shape for modern drivers is perfect, face depth and how it sits - everything checks out.

Seeing, reading, hearing about how it has comparable numbers to the best of the best. This driver is really a winner. I'm glad I finally got to see the LST model.

I may purchase just to have backup driver. Very impressed.

PS. I was equally impressed with the G400 fairways and hybrids. They look and sit very well. The new stealth wedges are intriguing too, especially the ES model. Just waiting for a truly elite iron release, S59-esque.

I ordered my LST light so I can add Hot melt or some heavier weights. The only reason why I even ordered a ping is because the LST is supposedly the best sounding, most muted, and best performing driver ping has made in forever...if it performs and I hit a couple more fairways, and the sound is great as reported, then it's in the bag. We will see. Sorry no way the MAX would ever make the bag...

It sounds and feels awesome. Same as every other company, ball speed is about the same as the last few years. I don’t hit it any farther than my g30 or G.

I'm hiding from winter in Palm Springs until early April, was gaming a G30 10.5 went to the PGA S/S and demo'd a G400, s/s improved from 105 to 108 picked up a 10.5 G400 head off E-Bay for a great price, put my Tour Ad Di6S into it and so far played 4 rounds at Escena. The G400 sounded a bit loud, went to Walmart and stuffed 18-20 feet of wool into the head, helped mute the sound significantly, much better. Hit some of my longest drives "ever" (278 & 283 yds Garmin S5) which surprised me considering Palm Springs is only 480 ft ^ sea level. Can hardly wait to get back home where it's 3,100 ft ^ sea level and let her fly, my G400 also launches a bit higher than the G30 with the same shaft. Very happy with this club, had to upgraded my 3 wood and hybrid, too .... just love the G400's don't know what Ping can do to improve them.

Any idea how much more swingweight that wool added?

Very little, I imagine 1 or maybe 2 s/w points, used light weight wool/yarn and a special tool, plastic covered paper clip with a small piece of the plastic coating removed at one end, which made it very easy to stuff the yarn down the weight port hole. In the future if you want to remove the wool, make a hook on the end and fished a piece out then pull it all out.

When I get back home I'll put it on a scale to fine tune s/w, but it really solved the sound issue for me.

Maybe a bit off topic but where are you guys custom ordering your G 400's where you can request head weight and other specs? I recall seeing in the past someone stating they ordered a Golf WRX Ping driver but can't find that thread.

I demo’d the G400 LST today with the Aldila Xtorsion Copper and it was much better than everything else. I don’t hear much about that shaft.

I did love the Tour 65 in a G25 years ago and wondering how they compare.

I swapped the Fujikura Pro 53 shaft in my G400 LST for a Fujikura Pro 65 today, and played 2 rounds. Wow, what a difference. The 65 is an X flex, whereas the 53 is an S. I'm not sure if it's the extra weight, the flex, or a little of both, but the change is amazing. The 53 wanted to go left all the time, but the 65 is as straight as I can manage.

In my LST I went from the Ping Tour shaft in stiff to a Fuji Speeder XLR8 Pro in X flex and was like night and day. Never ever used an x flex but this thing is easy 20 yards longer and more consistent.

In my range trip today I tried a couple G400 Max drivers. Both had the stock S shaft. One was the 9.5 and one was the 10.5. I was repeatedly bombing the 10.5 way down the range. The thing was that the launch was a little higher than my current old Taylormade club but the ball just launched and didn't start coming down for a long, long time. I'd hit the ball, bring the club back down to the ground, cross one foot over, lean on the club and keep watching the ball head west. Felt like I could have made a sandwich before the ball hit the ground. With the lower-lofted model the launch was markedly lower - more like my TM, long, but less consistent. While I may hit the 9.5 longer half the time I really felt like I could score with the 10.5. Plus, can mess with tweaking the loft if I want. Will be getting one of the 10.5, GMax clubs after next payday.

Just thought I'd add some thoughts on the LST v epic sub zero....on 3 holes, I hit 6 balls, 3 with each. Looking at distance, there was a mix..for example on one hole the difference between short and long was 20 yards, longest to shortest was ping, ping, epic, epic, ping, epic. Next hole was a repeat of the order, but was like 14 yards between them. The lst has a tendency to fade. The epic sz was easier to draw...both are great sticks, more time needed to get the winner....

Watching the Genesis this week and Bubba and Finau are just flat out bombing it. We all know this is normal for these two, but the thing that strikes me the most is the rollout they get after the carry. None of us are in their world, but what shafts are these guys using with their Ping equipment? Tony's looks to be the Alidila Green and Bubba used to play Grafalloy. Anyone?
