Here’s my idea for a tournament:

 

Everybody flies to Texas...

We play golf for four days and have 4 rules officials for every one golfer...

If anyone touches the turf before a ball moves after a chip shot, we hang him on my land north of Dallas...

If a player moves a loose impediment and his ball moves, we hang him...

If a player grounds his club in a hazard, we hang him...

 

Players cannot mention tiger, Phil, bubba , brandel, POTUS...

 

This all sounds about as WRXy as I can come up with off the top of my head

 

JonesScott will play in all pro am for a sonic gift certificate for fried mozerella sticks and fries..

Who's gonna run the skins game, Closest to the pin, LONG DRIVE? (I know some won't partake because they don't want to make a spectacle), we need the pre tournament party plan.

 

Who's manning the keg? What about cart girls, local or imports?

Might turn out to be the world's largest party--- with a little golf thrown in for good measure

 

I agree...at the kick off party everyone should be anonymous and we can give a prize for whomever correctly guesses the most usernames. Golfwrx Username Bingo.

 

Man, wouldn’t that be hilarious! I bet most wouldn’t look at all like we have them mentality pictured.

But wouldn’t it be cool to actually put a face to the username.

LOL, found a picture in another thread from days gone by. The good looking one is my now 11 3/4 year old hunting expert. Have your event in the prairie in November and I'll wear the cool hat you see here and everyone can win a prize!

Just an addendum to this

 

If this happened, it would be in Orlando and leaning toward a September-October date. I do have a few quotes for rates on several Orlando area clubs, hotels are in the process of getting quotes together. Why Orlando? Good tracks capable of hosting an event, large airport making it easy for travel, lots of hotel rooms, entertainment, but perhaps most important I used to work in the Orlando golf industry so I know all the people to contact and strings to pull. As far as format is concerned what would everyone like to see? I am extremely partial to stroke play, but would be open to teams if there is interest.

Lucky for you Hawk I'm already a scratch and by the time spring rolls around in Wisconsin I should be playing about as good as your average 5 or 6. Wait, that's not how WRX works...

I'm actually surprised this type of an event hasn't happened yet...even if it were a more relaxed, social type of an event. I guess it would be somewhat of a pain in arse to facilitate, but I would think that it might be easiest to have more regional events (Midwest, Northeast, Southeast, Southwest, Coastal States, PNW, TX, Mountain States) with a few volunteers to help out...maybe lead up to a final event in one location.

 

Shoot...you could try to partner with Callaway or Taylormade to also make it a cool product showcase for participants to try new clubs, etc...

So here is where we are at with this, first of all thank you very much for the interest and positive feedback! This is something that I would love to pursue and organize. I am in the process of putting together a package (golf, hotels, catering, beverages, and tee gifts, opening closing party, awards etc to present to GolfWRX, hopefully we can work together on this. I have not been active on this site regarding this for a little bit, it is a lot of tedious work getting things together plus with holidays a lot of my contacts at clubs/hotels/restaurants are busy etc and I do not feel like bugging them excessively during this time (I have communicated what I want to do, and all were receptive and willing to work with me). The plan right now, tentatively, nothing set in stone yet, but

 

Dates

Late August to Early October (Dates up in the air, I wanna get maximum participation from this site so plus that gives me and courses time to get things setup properly)

 

 

 

Lodging

Melia Suites, Celebration Florida

<100 per night double occupancy (I asked for 65-80 range double occupancy, the more people we get the cheaper it will be)

 

Courses (Prices are per day)

Falcons Fire (less than 40 a round, probably 35)

Celebration GC (still waiting on prices, my guy is off for the holidays but similar to falcons around 35-40)

 

Drinks

Leinenkeugels, (Happen to be friends with one of the largest vendors for Lienenkeugels in Central Florida) plus various pop and water.

 

 

Tee Gifts, and awards I have some ideas for what I want, and I am talking with various fabricators to see what to come up with.

 

As far as format

Probably something team oriented for the first one, hopefully once we present to WRX staff we can come to find a format that would be fair to all who play, and keep it interesting till the end.

 

Why Orlando?

Ease of travel, lots of hotels, lots of entertainment, quality golf, but most of all, I worked in Orlando for a few years got to know some people that can help with events like this. I want this to be perfect, and if the first one works then it can become something that is supported and runs well every year. So stay tuned I will update in the coming weeks. The next step is putting this all together in a neat organized proposal for WRX staff to get their support.

No way. For all the crap we say safely behind our computers, I would love to see a straight up stroke play bloodbath on a 150 rated course. I'm in, and would happily contribute a 38 going out, 47 double eject coming in to a scoreboard destined for hilarity.
