Golfball Hoarders - What brand/how many (dozen)

Any golfball hoarders here? I am one. It started in 2013 when the Maxfli U4x balls were discontinued and heavily discounted by the various retailers. I really liked the ball so I bought about 15 dozen of them. Well, the hoarding is back and this time its with the Bridgestone B330-RXS balls. I stumbled into them by accident and instantly gelled with the feel and performance of the ball. An online retailer has new older model versions of the ball heavily discounted so I have about 17 dozen spread between my bag (1 doz at a time) and my golf closet (16 dozen). Needless to say, I should be good for a few seasons.

 

Anyone else hoard golfballs?

Where do you get your deal on B330 rxs? This ball performed well for me when I used a couple I found.

At a private golf club with a lot of forest LOL.

 

There's a few places that always have a ton of balls. Plus if i hit one into the trees i'll usually come out with a few. My group plays really fast and we all do this. So like maybe 2-3 times a round if someone hits one into the woods we'll all go in and come out with 3-4 Pro V's each.

 

In an average round i probably lose 0.5 balls and find 2-3.

Let me first admit that I have two serious problems. 1. Costco. 2. Kirkland Signature Golf Balls. Right now, the golf ball closet has 24 double dozen of the KSig and KTrey combined. And that's after giving 6 dozen balls away over the last few weeks.

 

There's probably another dozen or so in the bag, too.

I have about 6 dozen Chrome Soft's and 2 dozen K-sig's sitting on the shelf with about a dozen Chrome Soft's/misc in the bag. Seems like I have more golf clubs than golf balls now! lol

 

I like the B330RX and wish I had some in yellow again. Do you know of a deal on those?

I have one local course, on hole #1, I can easily get 6-10 pro v's and others every time I go to this one spot. 175 yards and to the right. It's separated by a small ravine and no one feels like hopping over to get their ball or getting muddy. So, they just drop a ball and play on.

 

I just don't think of doing it all of the time. It also feels a bit weird strolling out grabbing balls there when not playing.

I don't hoard. But, there always seem to be some random balls, I think I should have. Such as Wilson Soft Spin or TM Project S. I know there are better balls, like the Ksigs, Z Stars or Snells. But, I just think of a few types of balls I like and grab a dozen just for the heck of it or even worse, looking at sleeves at a golf course, I end up with a few extra sleeves that I wasn't planning to buy. So, a small amount of hoarding tendencies. Pre-Wrx, I never paid attention to the ball. Just picked up something cheap.

Lots of beat to hell Top Flites and Pinnacles where I place my peg. Finding a premium ball is a rarity. Trade in my finds at a local range and/or give them away to those who want/need them. Am up to 248 balls so it's nearly time to purge.

 

I've accumulated 13 dozen balls of various brands. All urethane, all 3 piece or more.

 

Have a weird habit of playing balls I find and leaving the new ones in the bag/box. No clue why as I don't fret when I lose one. I'm sure it's a habit from my early days.

I will pick up the occasional Top Flight and Pinnacle, but I still don't get why so many folks purchase the ProV. It is very rare indeed to play our course and not lose at least one or two golf balls a round...regardless of HI.

 

I don't use a ball retriever. A simple walk in the woods will do, if you don't mind the briars, mosquitos, ticks, fallen branches, and the occasional coyote. I have never been too keen on balls that have been sitting in the water. A few weeks ago I was walking along the stream on the 6th hole that parallels the fairway and counted 92 golf balls. Last year during a "walkabout" I found 86 golf balls alone on our first hole. I have cut back on my "ball walks" this season. I caught myself the other day in the woods, and asked myself, "What the f are you doing?" lol

 

On Monday's the course doesn't open until 11:00, so I would put on some jeans, boots, grab my field jacket, a canvas tote and hit the woods. These "ball walks" were especially lucrative if there was a tournament over the weekend...heck, I have even found some of my golf balls. lol

 

Yesterday I found 7 ProV's (in great condition...a lot of one hit wonders), and that was just walking along the edges.

 

My game would probably be better served using the same golf ball all the time, but the thought of paying for golf balls gives me the willies.

The worst part is I play Golf balls till they are totally done or nice balls that I find on the course before I even touch my hoarded balls

Hoarding is such a subjective term with negative connotations.

 

I am the proud owner and caretaker of 12 dz KSig originals and 4 dz each of K3 and ProV1x. I also buy 300 range balls at a time as I hit into a hillside next to my house and most of those get picked up by local kids. And I probably have 4 dz more misc brands that I’ve gathered playing in charity events etc.

 

While I don’t consider myself a “prepper” as is commonly depicted these days, let’s just say if I could get potable water I wouldn’t have to go to the market for food for well over a year. And I reload too. Ok, maybe I do have some issues.

Trying to break the hoarding habit, myself. Down to my last six dozen (OMG!!!) of my everyday ball, Titleist AVX. Plus one mixed-dozen box of KIRKLANDS (K-Sig and K-3) and Snells.

 

I am not doing any more mass buys in future, assuming I keep resisting temptation. One dozen at a time, maybe two dozen if they’re on sale. And no more than 4 doz on hand once my current “hoard” is depleted.

 

I’ve been playing so bad lately, that 6 doz may not last me until the end of the year. Imagine that, me with just half a year’s supply of golf balls on hand. Strange days.

I currently have 40.5 dozen balls, not counting the dozen in my bag or the prob 10 dozen found balls I gave my kids.

My largest of a single ball is 12 dozen Lethals, then Z Stars/Xv with about 5-6 each. But I’m narrowing that all down now. No more buying any balls for a long time.

I have cut back on my "ball walks" this season. I caught myself the other day in the woods, and asked myself, "What the f are you doing?" lol

 

 

I had to laugh at that. I think we all have those moments in life. I was gluing up my 3rd or 4th backup set of irons the other day ... and said the same thing to myself. They are never going to beat my gamer set, so why keep trying?

When Nike quit making equipment that meant my favorite ball got snipped.

 

So I stocked up on 12 dozen Nike rzn tour blacks (Volt color...I play yellow).

 

I won two straight club championships with that ball and now have to figure out what I should use next. I'm down to a couple dozen.
