I say -23 wins it. Somebody will eat this place with Driver.i think with right wind dj can drive it over the creek on 18.

Wouldn't you say that the driver strategy brings in both birdie and double an option? Is driver strategy equal parts risk and reward?

but the reward just isn't there -- not when he can hit 3i and still be just short of the creek and hit a flip wedge with some more spin than if he was too close to the green (awkward yardages maybe?) --

i agree, if someone gets the driver going (AND gets good bounces away from those bunkers) - this could be incredibly low.

side note - if they go really low, does the R&A burn the course out next year, grow the rough to 3', and fry the greens to protect par?

*side note was only in jest of the circus USGA.

/sarcasm

lol i don't know man, with no or little wind, fast fairways and slow greens -- it's possible.

Obviously I’m not a tour player but I’ve played this course and no way in hell is that score happening no matter the conditions. Course is just way too hard but fair. Not 6 under per day fair though! :)

Anyone finding the GC coverage super laggy?

Scottish/Irish Open coverage was great - but Live from the Open has been poor. Wondering if it's just our office network or others are seeing it too.

A Rory or DJ or Brooks having 4 great driver days could go very low if they have they partial wedges working in unison

That rules Rory out then!

Notable non-American players missing: Adrián Otaegui, Joost Luiten, Mikko Korhonen, Shugo Imahira, Mike Lorenzo-Vera, Dean Burmester, Lucas Bjerregaard.

I'd like the major tournaments to invite the top player of each country inside the top 200, so players like Luiten and Korhonen would get invited.

Except that would mean a player more deserving than them would get left out. It’s an Open. Everyone had a chance to qualify, and all those guys had at least 5-6 opportunities to qualify.

koepka too since his accuracy off the tee if 5% points below the tour average and ranks 163rd in the category....Rory 144th

stenson leads at 79% accuracy rate. tour average is 61%

The Open 2018: Golf 'will never get over' box-office Tiger Woods

He told a tale about about those first weeks in Scotland.

"I'd never played links golf," he said. "This was my first time. I spent close to two hours on the range just hitting balls before I even went and played because I thought it was just the best, seeing the ball bounce, being creative and using my mind.

"I grew up in Southern California where nothing rolls. I remember going down to (hole) number two, I was probably 120 yards out and bringing out my putter. I'd never done that before. That was one of the cooler moments. It stuck with me. That was my introduction to links golf - Carnoustie and St Andrews. Doesn't get any better than that."

Woods had a captive audience. We were literally queuing out the door. For reigning Open champion Jordan Spieth on Monday - a healthy attendance at his press conference, but not full. For Masters champion Patrick Reed - a decent turnout. For US Open champion Brooks Koepka - a respectable crowd. For Woods, a stampede.

Forgot the part about him hitting balls at the 100m sign the whole time. Said he sat there and went through every club just going at the sign, his dad came up and asked, "are you ever going to hit it past 100m" hahaha.

I'm with Jack; -10 or so wins it, and I'm going with Fleetwood to win, and Molinari finishing top five. Setting my alarm for early tomorrow morning to catch the first round. Work tomorrow will be brutal.

I like -14.

As for the winner I can't help but go with Koepka, 2nd pick Fleetwood.

why everyone is so hyped up about fleetwood? Last 2 tournaments he looked like he was out off shape /tired.btw his top25 streak could not last...I like his style (and hair^^) but I did not see positive signs lately

this was a guess as to what they were thinking -- he hasn't shown real life in the open. 3 missed cuts and a T-27.

Sorry if it’s been mentioned but does anyone know what the total yardage is for the open? It looks like their scorecard has the back tees at around 6900-7000, but I don’t know if they have a championship tee box set

Or because he has the course record and is a good ball striker. The last event he played he had his dad on the bag and was getting an appearance fee to play. To say his heart wasn’t in it would be an understatement.

while i can appreciate a good counter argument -- having a course record is great and all but, it wasn't in an Open Championship...was it?

as for the heart notation -- individual's drive to win is in my opinion a weak argument b/c what are you going to say if they didn't do well? 'they stopped caring' ???

But it was in a European Tour event. And I do t blame a guy for essentially withdrawing mentally because he couldn’t literally wd due to receiving an appearance fee. His dad on the bag and giving his caddy the week off is clear what his commitment level was. It’s not an excuse if it’s obvious from the start you weren’t into it. He will be all in for the Open.

...so? stone shot 60 last week at the scottish -- you could argue that due to the conditions and their relative similarities to that of the open he would be a favorite no???

you're saying he has heart yet, the example you're giving is one where he only finished the event b/c of his appearance fee...you can see the hypocrisy of that? so, his dad was on the bag...and gave his caddie the week off. i'd argue if he had more heart, his caddie would be on the bag and he would try in earnest to win the tournament, despite the fee -- THAT would show me he was more 'in it', and honestly, would be considerably more 'game ready' than basically playing a fill-in b/c money was involved.

The Scottish played absolutely nothing like Carnoustie. Greens were slow and soft. Where did I say he “has heart”? He will be trying to win the open. He was not trying to win the French and IMO essentially missed the cut on purpose. He took 2.5 weeks off to rest before this event

How would a guy who finished 2nd in the last major, is top 10 player in the word, and has the course record at the course they are playing not be a favorite?
