Ping I210 irons & Glide forged wedge

I agree with a couple posters above that the i210 looks to have a shallower face, which I like and a higher toe profile. I dig both of those things!

I hope i500 does better in design. P790 is very tough to beat.

 

I'm looking for a set of irons that will give me better distance control than my CF16's and the P790's do not sound like they will provide this. I'm hopefully the i500's will give me the spin that I'm looking for. If not, the i210 will be the ticket. Also, the sole on the P790's are a bit on the chunky side and some are not getting the turf interaction they were hoping for.

the new finish looks a bit different than current PING irons. next to a current iron it looks quite shiny. it will be referred to a Hydropearl Chrome 2.0 (literally).

 

the new finish will have the characteristic of being able to be screened with images. they will be available (really, don't ask me why) to be put on the back of the Glide Forged wedges, recall very similar to how the Cleveland "Custom" RTX wedges had it.

I cant see any weight adjustability on the Glide forged wedge. That's probably a deal breaker for me as even the stainless Glide lob wedge with stick on weight that Ping produced for me at +0.75" came out at E1...…..it's currently back with them to consider making it less like swinging a sledgehammer

After seeing these pics of the i210s, the first thought I had was that I am not disappointed about having just purchasing a set of iBlades. For me the soles on these are too wide and have too much bounce for starters.

That toe is reminiscent of the mizuno mp14/29 back in the day. I like it.

 

Still not sure how this could be a big improvement from i200 so will be curious what the pitch is.

Are possibly the Tour Forged irons that were posted a few days the i500? Someone mentioned that they were the not a true MB iron the Tour forged, and I believe the guy said not a iblade replacement. I wonder if that's what the Ping demo fitter was referring too.

Wasn't a big fan of the finish on the i200 and how the faces and soles looked after 10-15 rounds. Durability is a big thing for me, although it doesn't change performance and is more aesthetic. I don't want my irons looking 5 years old after 5 weeks.

 

Hope the i210 is different, I'll definitely be hitting them along with the i500 to see if any of them can kick the 790s out of my bag.

Sadly the rumor of a new finish was just that. Hydropearl for everything. Doesn’t hurt anything but retail as they look years old in weeks. 2.0 so what, the face on the demo clubs didn’t look that good and I’m sure only a few have hit them. At least you can have some moronic image screened on them..

Is it just me or do the i200 series look a lot like the Taylormade RAC OS series minus the heavy offset.

Even the slightly peaked weight in the cavity of the i210 look like the progression in the Rac OS2.

I had the Rac OS2s and loved them and now have the i200s and love them.

LOL, I love golf and this site for this type of post. Bravo. I'll be curious to see if the 210 can cause me to order, my 200's are still going strong.

 

RE: Finish wearing off, I actually dig the look but it's obviously not for everyone as I continue to read about the finish wear. Similar to the Glide Stealth, I actually love the look of my wedges now that the sweet spot is worn.

The finish wears off but over time it evens out. There is a thread on bar keepers friend and scotch Brite if it is that much of an.issue as it is just a surface coating.

Forged-smorged. Doesnt make a damned bit of difference. It's the mass behind the sweet spot in MB blades that gives that gratifying feel, not forged versus cast.

 

i200s and now i210s are a cavity back. They'll never feel entirely like an MB blade, but Ping's use of polymer inserts to tune the sound/feel of these irons gives them a gratifying feel in their own right. Different than an MB blade, but nice nonetheless for those desiring more forgiveness.

Wedges do look good. Just wish they would take the word "forged" off. The word alone is a $50 price increase.

based on your theory, say Titelist cb should feel similar to i200 because both are cb? lol, cb716 is much better than i200 in terms of the feel.

 

i200 feels very sturdy and firm, which some people might like, but I didn't feel that softness you get from other forged clubs.

In MY experience with Ping, it comes down to the shaft. Everytime I try their factory steel, they always feel harsh to me. Put in a DG or Project X and it's a totally different feel. Not premium Forged, but still soft and pleasant. Before you write them off I would try some other shafts (assuming you haven't already.)

A lot of people like Ping and find they feel just fine. If you don't like them don't buy them.
