My favorite ever was an OG Ping Rapture with 10 cotton balls in the head. Some people thought I miss hit it because it was so quiet haha. “Didn’t sound like you caught it all”

 

I’m the first to admit my G400 max sounds terrible but results make it worth keeping.

 

I also have a Cobra F7+ that sounds good but I don’t hit it near as good as the G400

There was a Nike driver I owned some years ago where even if I bunted one out there 200 yards, it sounded like a cannon went off. I actually loved the sound cuz it was so dramatic it freaked out the competition. Lol

I know I definitely wouldn't buy a Rogue, Epic, or Fusion... they sound dead to me and make me question contact on otherwise good shots. I guess I like a little more lively metallic sound, which I've never had an issue with in Cobra heads (I've had F6, F7, and now F8+).

I have a Fusion (2016, not the earlier one) and I think the sound is a perfect “thwack”. Years ago I had a Cobra that was so loud it ticked off the opposition, I loved it because of that!

 

Thinking about it, maybe I like the Fusion sound because I hit it so darn good..

HATE the way the new Callaway drivers sound...and feel for that matter. Crazy considering their fairway woods are my favorite

^^^ Here's the answer. Great feeling, quiet sounding driver. Sadly many on here have never heard of it let alone tried it.

+1 to mizuno, but i would say the MP-001 t/s. With a forged face and sole, this thing hit out of the middle has a sound all it's own. Sweet, solid, and leaves no doubt in the mind of anyone near to you as to how well the ball was struck. It's a 360cc head (which i believe the industry is trending towards) but every bit as long as anything else I've hit from the last 5 years. Decent stock shaft, but plays at 45" stock, so may need to chop it, I did. Looks sexy too, with just barely visable carbon fiber on top.

 

And who cares about persimmon? I do. Why? Well, number 1 because i spend a lot of time with them, restoring old ones to new condition, customizing them for friends, and playing them at least once a week. And number 2. Because you just buy a new taylormade or ping, whereas you make the aquaintance of a persimmon club, and if you get along with her, you'll love her for life. Not to mention they're much, much longer than anyone seems to remember. Let's not forget that the still standing longest drive ever struck in pga competition was with a persimmon driver. (Yes, he had a significant tail wind, but that happens today, and the record still stands.) Go get some lumber, boys, learn to hit her on the screws. Your game will thank you.

The persimmon driver strike and sound were awesome. Part of it had to do with the glee and relief of possibly being where you aimed. JP was pretty wild with his drives and recalls you had to create some serious lag to bomb it. Maybe that’s a fantasy too? Mostly used laminate, not oil hardened persimmon, that was country club ware way back then. Played found balatas.

The PXG X driver has that perfect solid dull thwack. Hoping the new one performs better but retains that nearly perfect solid sound and feel.
