The passive brag thread

In a recent Publinx match I broke my own course record by clutching it on 18. 470 par 4 needing birdie to break it and I managed to rip a drive down the middle and stick my approach to 4 feet. Upsetting because I had a left a few shots out there. Narrowly missed a 12 footer on a tough par 3 9th hole to shoot 29 on the front. Also rolled a putt that was tracking dead center with perfect speed that hit freaking Bigfoot's spike mark and hopped straight left causing a miss. Then midway through the back 9 I made a terrible bogey with wedge in my hands from 50 yards on a shot that was hole-able. I flew it too far barely over the ridge in the green that I was trying to use as a backstop, 3 putted from the top tier :-( Potentially could have been 2-4 shots lower if everything went the way I imagined it.

*side note- I have recently been playing my best golf in my life. 18 of my last 21 rounds have been par or better. I'm currently trying to figure out where my recent success is stemming from

I solely used my Wilson FG Tour 3I off the tee last night to see whether I should put it in the bag full time and I'm not sure.

I was so dumb I forgot to keep track of how many of the 14 fairways I hit. It's especially dumb, since I did keep track of the 12/14 greens I hit.

I've been scoring horribly recently after completely forgetting how to hit a wood. Decided to only hit irons yesterday and stepped up to the par 4 16th and ripped a 2 iron 290 just off the green and got up and down for birdie. Scored a solid extra 30 yards off a blind kick slope. Was a pleasant surprise to see the ball just off the putting surface.

More than 10 years ago I was audibly angry after shooting my best round ever, 1 over par on a more difficult than average course. The guys in the clubhouse bar could not understand why I was so upset as a 10 handicapper shooting a 73. What I did not tell them and what they did not know was that I was 5 under par going into 13.

What the hell is a passive brag.... The other day I barely drove 330....is that right?

It only works if you throw something in that seems bad but also reinforces the good thing

Like I only drove it 330, and it left me an awkward distance in. Needed another 10 yards to have a full club I'm comfortable with

That's a passive brag

I just picked golf up again after a few years away from actually practicing and actively trying to get better. My friends and I have been playing our local course that is only a par 65. No par 5's, short, etc. So it's a great practice course.

Well we played last night and I had an awful front 9. I was 11 over at the turn and lost all hopes of shooting in the 70's. (A lame goal on a par 65, but still wanted to do it)

So we start the back 9 and I just start playing solid golf. I knew in the back of my mind I needed to shoot a 3 over par to get a 79. Well I actually went out and did it. I went par, bogey, par, par, par, par, par, double!!, and then finished 18 with a really nice par knowing in the back of my mind I needed it. It felt really good to shoot a 3 over 36.

I was sweating on the second to last hole which is a par 3 215 yarder. I pushed my driving iron right and found the trees, then made an awful chip shot. In my mind I knew if I just bogeyed the hole, I could have bogeyed 18 for the 79. I took the hard way home haha.

No problems with my socks, but last week when I took my golf shoes off after the round I noticed I had wore a black Nike tennis shoe and a black Ashworth spikeless shoe to the course. I had another pair just like them at home.

Last week in men's league I was 4 under through my first 6 holes and finished the day with 5 birdies and 1 eagle. However, I ended up shooting a 2 over 72. Could've been a new career best but penalty strokes and lip outs got the best of me.

Old man I played with a few years back Me and my buddy (who were beginning golfers) have been spraying balls everywhere but the fairway all round. Push slices and hooks into adjoining fairways, blading chips over greens, hitting into deep rough, having to play out from under trees - you name the bad shot, we hit it. Anyway, the old man steps out and hits an average (for him) drive which lands in the fairway about 5-10 feet from the beginning of the second cut on the left side of the fairway. It's a longer par 4 (but we're playing from the old man tees) so it leaves him with a 5 or 6 iron into a medium green with only a single bunker you could play away from. I nod appreciatively to the old man who turns to put his driver back in his bag. I then hear him mumble, "Damn hook."

Hadn't played much after 3 month hiatus. Then 5 rounds in July. Shot 84, 91, 85 (with an eagle, first in 2 years), then out of nowhere 76, then 81 the day after.

The 76 I hit 13/14 fairways (best ever) and 13/18 greens (close to best probably). 36 putts with four 3 putts though.

I got a lesson with some guys at Core Golf in Orlando at OCN. This was a few years ago, but we met and as I am warming while he sets up trackman, I’ve got my 6 iron and I’m just mashing it. I can see he’s done, and I ask if we can start he says just make a few more swings. I do. After three more swings he stops me and asks what iron I’m hitting, I say 6 and show him. He cracks up laughing and asks what I hit 150? I say 9 or 3/4 8 iron. He shakes his head no and says, “you just hit those last 3 237-242-237” what’s your normal distance with a 6? I tell him 185. Then he asks how far if you kill it? I responded with 205 and 225 is the absolute max from a flat lie with no wind slope etc. he just laughed and said, that’s impossible but show me with these three balls. First one went 185.0, second one 204.9, third was 225.0. My college coach who tagged along cracked up, he thought it was the funniest thing ever. Moral of the story, I’m not a long hitter with driver but I’m consistently hole high through the bag from about 235 (3 iron) to wedges.
