60 or 58 degree on tour?

Is there a clear winner with pros? I’ve used 60 forever but thinking about going to 58. It’s my go to club 85yds and in and I’m quickly seeing that this could be hindering me.

It seems that the 60 is too hard to control flight and spin consistently. I can hit 5 shots the same, at least they feel the same, and I get 5 different trajectories and spin rates.

stopped carrying a 60 like 5 rounds ago , now only have 52 and 56, i find myself more focused on the shot then trying to focus on hitting my 60 or 62. dont keep stats but i am positive it has helped me getting closer to pin and less 3 putts.

good luck.

also if im going to run the ball low into the green from say 10 feet off i have been using my 7 iron with plenty success.

I find that the 58 is more versatile for me, but to each their own.

I have always been a 58 guy. Tried a 60 a while back, but found the 58 more versatile. Down the road, a 62 might be fun to mess with, but the 58 is a keeper.

I play both, the thinking is that I have 52* and 58* with standard sole and then 60* with no bounce. No matter what I figure I can't get out of this setup...

Very interesting topic.

I’ve always been a PW, medium bounce SW and low bounce LW kind of guy. Even tried the PW, GW and LW set-up as well but the GW has short comings around the greenside rough and grind specificity.

Just switched over to a low bounce SW which is very versatile off the fairway, light rough, firm sand and can still open it up wide open for super flop shots if need be.

Completed the set up with high bounce LW for short side thick rough, fluffy sand and the biggest advantage I found was that the high bounce didn’t it cut under ball like a low bounce LW. Contact is more consistent and trajectory stops the ball.

This is good info because I have a 60 degree full bounce wedge that is great everywhere except the flop. I currently use a low grind 60 that seems to get me in more trouble than I like especially in fluffy sand and soggy fairways.

I think I will get a medium/high bounce 58. Then I will just stop short-siding myself...problem solved ;)

Went from 52/56/60 which didn’t fit the yardages I left myself most often. Went to 50/54/58 and my wedge game has improved immensely. The new setup just fits the yardages I leave myself most often.

Morale is go with what works best for your game.

Did something different, picked up T7 wedges in a low bounce SW and high bounce LW vs medium bounce SW and low bounce LW which totally changed the dimension of my short game.

The SW with a low bounce enables me to hit from the fairway like a GW and eliminate any possibility of a skull. Secondly, I can open true SW wide open and play like a medium bounce LW.

For the LW, the high bounce took a couple rounds to get use too and the biggest advantage over a low bounce LW is that I can open up the face and not worry about cutting under the ball in thick/shortside tough. Lastly, can be hit out of fluffy bunkers if need be.

The 58* was the highest lofted wedge carried by about half the PGA tour pros, according to a Golf Digest piece a couple of years ago.

Not much to add except that if you hit 5 shots with a wedge and they’re all different, I guarantee 2* of loft won’t make a difference one way or the other. Also would put money on changing th bounce helping your playability more than changing the loft.

Figure out your pitching wedge loft and gap your wedges accordingly from that (4* for 3 wedges, 6* for 2 wedge setup).

Edit: I once read that you should always have a lob wedge, but don’t use it unless you’re forced to (E.g. short sided or have to go over something). When 85 yards out, use a 2/3 sand wedge instead because a lob wedge can be hard to hit consistently on full shots off tight lies. Just food for thought.

Has anyone tried a wide sole, low bounce wedge?

Looking at a series of wedges 52-60 loft with well over an inch wide soles but only 7-9 degrees of loft.
