440 is the real deal

This is one reason why TM has been my driver year in and year out. I love a smaller deep face look. I wish more oems would follow suit.

Holding out hope that Callaway releases a smaller version of their SZ. That's just because I don't want to get new tips for my shafts.

If they do it will probably be a $2000 “tour only” head. Another reason why TM has won my driver slot for the last several years.

You know, it's funny. Driving used to be the best part of my game when the heads were around 400cc and deep faced - R510/r7 and 905S - and it has gotten steadily worse as the heads got more forgiving. The Cleveland Classic 290 was the first 460cc head that I was comfortable with. Then the BBA at 440cc was decent for me. The M3 460 I find to be a good combination of the forgiving and compact look. That's one of the main reasons I will likely still use it this season as well. I finally feel like I'm not looking at a dinner plate on a stick AND it's still forgiving and long. I really hope they didn't mess with the driver footprint for the M5.

The old TP logo should make a come back for me.

Don’t know if I’m remembering Correctly but if it had a tp logo was there a more open face angle, flatter lie and upgraded shaft?

So almost like a retail tour issue

It wasn't just spec based. That was certainly part of it, but the old TP heads were usually a slightly different design than the retail offerings. This was back when different heads were made for the tour, so in some sense TP heads really were a kind of retail tour issue. Thankfully, this distinction is no longer needed because there's no difference between TaylorMade's retail and tour heads these days, apart from tour heads being spec sorted.

The 440 is for WRX users since they need the workability and looks for their egos. The 460 is for everyone else including the tour pros.

It's called personal preference my man. Maybe spend less time worrying about what everyone else is or wants to play?

My buddy picked up a good 10-15 yards by switching to the 440 model. Launches lower and spins less. He also hits it pretty dang straight. There was a time when all pros and hacks alike played a driver that wasn't 460cc.

Nahhh, no he didn’t.

Only kidding, I believe you. But yeah not a lot of people that play with the 440 actually need the 440. They just want to look cool and hit sh*tty drives.

I have a friend who is 62, and his son gave him for birthday a Subzero Stiff driver. He doesn’t care what he hits with it, it makes him happy while playing.

A buddy of mine took the left side out of play with the 430 and another buddy went from a two way miss and fighting a high block with the 460 to a tiny draw with the 430.

I believe that. But, having the option is nice. If they choose the wrong equipment, that's on them. Plus, it's not like there is a drastic difference between the 460 and 440 M3. I hit his M3 440 along side my Rogue and got pretty similar ball flight and distance every time. If the M5 and M6 are more like the M3 and M4 in shape, I only see myself considering the 440. If they are more 2016 M1 and M2'S shaped, then who knows, I'd consider either of them at that point.
