Cold Weather Golfing - How Was Your Round

No laughing here I absolutely enjoy playing in the cold. It’s a unique and refreshing experience. So nice to be outside enjoying nature, we use cart covers and heaters so there’s always a warm spot to take a break and enjoy the flask! BB

34 Celsius yesterday, biggest problem was sunburn.

I'd rather play in 34F than 34C!

34c is definitely not fun. I once played at 30c and that was brutal. Thankfully temperatures in the UK don't often go much above 25. They don't go below zero during the day all that often either, least-wise not in the southern half.

86F is brutal? Love mid 80's days! And I'd definitely much rather play in 34C (93F) than 34F, but I do both!

Went out yesterday. Temps were in the 40s so was relatively warm. But it has rained a lot over the recent days and the course was very soggy. I seem unable to hit a wedge well from spongy lies, just get fat short shots. Erratic off the tee with driver. Putting OK considering greens are uneven. Rest of the bag was OK though short, which is why I needed a wedge on more holes than usual. And my adult son kicked my a** by 6 holes or 14 strokes (we usually play both match and stroke scoring, otherwise he would have won 6 and 5). We are usually close to even. So all in all not a bad way to spend the morning.

Dull, 9c, occasional drizzle for most of today's round. Course was soft and muddy in places but not too bad. Had a poor front (+15 which is 10 more than I'd expect) but had quite a good back (+9). Ended up on 94 which isn't bad considering the conditions.

Also I had a stomach bug over the weekend and my appetite didn't return until yesterday evening so I was playing off one small meal the night before and a BLT for breakfast. I was definitely feeling a lack of energy toward the end. On the plus side I wanted to start the new year with a diet and I've already lost 2kg :)

I suppose that's what called a 'porcelain diet' :-/

I was back in Britain for Christmas (a bit further north than you, though). Apart from from a rough couple of days around Friday, the weather was beautiful for winter golf in the UK. I wish I could have got out, but I had other things to keep me busy.

Got up to almost 50 in Chicago yesterday. Absolutely perfect weather. Played 9 holes and honestly hit the ball as good as ever, especially with my irons. All the indoor practice this winter has certainly paid off.

I just moved to Chicago a few months ago from the south and am new to indoor practicing, can you recommend a few places?

It was nearly 50F, sunshine with just a bit of wind in the Dayton, Ohio area today. Managed a nice range session and a quick round of 9. Greens got soaked Friday night and are pretty slow. Haven't hit since late October . . . need to work on the long/mid irons.

We made it to a very nice upper 50's here yesterday and suppose to hit 60 today. Talk about a bonus...15 to 20 degrees above my limit!

We certainly don't expect that here for the first round of a new year. Also, nice to have a decent 77 on the card for score 1 of 2019.

9c, overcast but sun now and again. No wind. Started off really badly with a +3, +2, +2. Then something happened. I stopped trying to correct my fade and just swung the club. And I hit my groove. Managed four pars in a row (including GIR on all of them). The rest of the round was mostly bogies, a couple more pars and one double bogey. Ended up +21 for 91.

A very pleasant day's golfing especially since it was at the gorgeous Feldon Valley. The drainage work they did a couple of years ago works well. It's a shame that the drainage channels have never weathered in but my mate and I have a rule that says if we land in a rut we just move the ball clear.

Played yersterday just south of Canton, Ohio. It was absolutely gorgeous and a rare treat for early Jan. No frost, lots of sun and little wind temps topping off at a flat out balmy 48 degrees! Bonus, the course was pretty darn dry. These are good days indeed!! Truth, we’ve yet to play on a frozen track which is typically the standard from Nov moving forward WHEN and IF we can even play. Didn’t see this coming after a pretty nasty late summer and fall. The course we play is awesome and caters to winter diehards. They have really nice covers on there carts. A blanket and Coleman Golfcat heater guarantees perfection! BB

SMART Golf & Fitness in Lincoln Park. I may be biased considering I work there, but it honestly is tough to beat. Plus we're expanding soon to make more room for people to practice.

Near 50*F today with 10mph and about 20 mph gusts. Shot a personal best 84 at my old home course. Thinned a 9 iron to four feet for a birdie on the final hole.

Enjoyed a rare January round in Michigan yesterday. Near 50 degrees and sunny. Walked 18 with a couple buddies while having beers and cigars plus a few whiskey flask pulls for birdies.

Great day yesterday here around Detroit. Got in 18 with our foursome. This was my third round since December 23. Loving this great weather.

Played yesterday in low 40’s. We always get out as early as possible, so not much warming up when you finish around 11:00 am.

Shot 78.

Oddly, this year I’m not losing distance in the cold as in the past. Only change has been new driver. Can’t figure out why, but noticeable enough that one of my regular playing partners commented about this during yesterday’s round. Weird!

Got a great round in Saturday morning, right around freezing when we started, and balls were bouncing hard landing on the greens, but warmed up as we went along so was tricky adjusting to the varying speeds of the greens but who cares when your playing on January 5th! Nice walk only a couple really soft/wet spots.
