How good will Matthew Wolff be?

GolfChannel

First of many, one of the best tournament Sundays I have seen in a few weeks. I wanted him to win, but the prospect of a 5-8 person playoff tugged at the chaos my dark heart loves. First of many for him and Morikawa.

i don't think we're ever going to get a "big three" or a single golfer who goes on a tear like Tiger because the talent pool just keeps getting deeper and deeper. And i'm looking forward to watching it continue to grow.

I think the chances of a “Big 3” are way better than a single dominant player. I can see a few players pull away and win 5 majors and 15 tour events over the next 20 years. I don’t see a single player like Woods/Nicklaus happening again though. That type of personality is simply forbidden in our world now.

If Wolff can get his chipping down. Which is his downfall according to him, with the way he putts and his length off the tee....man he is going to be so fun to watch down the stretch. Having the mental aptitude that he has from winning in college is going to be huge for him in the pro's

It makes him popular, but that doesn’t make him great. His college career was fine, but he didn’t beat any veteran players at amateur events like the US Am, Sunnehana, Western Am, etc. I’ll say he’s a Ryan Moore type career with 6-8ish wins by the time he retires lavishly.

LOL yeah I don't know what happened must have misread something. Though he has now a T2 at 3M so he's up to 778k now. Still short of what I said lol. :#

Wolff's swing is not the A swing. Try comparing what Lydia Ko was doing (and that ruined her form) and what Wolff does. A huge difference in how the left wrist looks. A swing has it cupped big time, and Wolff's is more flat. Downswing A swing left wrist is still cupped (while also shallowing) while Gankas has Wolff shallow it a lot more and left wrist is in flexion. Just my opinion, maybe somebody who knows swings better can analyze it more. Also GG footwork is also very different from what Leadbetter teaches.

Blessing in disguise he didn’t auto qualify for the Open, or literally makes zero sense just like FedEx Cup points and other PGA Tour nonsense like rookie of the year...

Well he followed his win with a made cut. I'm still impressed. Easy for a 20 year old to slack off a little after a win. Even more impressive is Colin Morikawa who secured his card for next season. These kids don't have it easy, with only a partial season to gain points.

Looking like Hovland will have to go to KFC finals to get his card. Insane he gets zero points for his performances at Augusta, Bayhill, and the US Open.

Can’t earn points if you aren’t a pro. Iirc he was a junior this year so he still had a chance of going back to school. How do you award points to an am that may not turn pro

He picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue, I mean win a golf tournament.

The 3M was big enough of an event that he will be in Memphis for the WGC next week.

I think they could keep track of *potential* points similar to how they track non member points? It would require a little more bookkeeping by the tour though.

Hovland is playing so well I don't think it should be a major hurdle to get his card thru the KF Finals if he has to go that route. Wouldn't be surprised if he gets a top 3 at the Wyndham Championship to earn his card that way too..
