Original One Mini Driver

I did a fitting to see if this could be a true driver replacement and was extremely surprised with the results. Started with the 11.5 and was hitting everything dead left. Moved on to the 13.5 and adjusted until I found the best results. I ended up taking the 13.5 down to 11.5 and was straight as an arrow and every bit as long as my driver. Ordered on the spot a 13.5 with a Tour AD IZ 7 set to 11.5.

That’s the exact step up I was fit into. It was longer than my driver. Unfortunately I can’t afford the IZ so I had to go stock shaft.

I just used mine today for the first time, turned down to 9.5 and I was very pleased with the results. I got a very nice penetrating ball flight and kept the ball in the fairway except for 1 bad swing. The best thing about it was not feeling like the club was too long or that I had to "time it" like I do with regular sized drivers. I was able to go after it and kept it in play. So, for now, it stays in the bag. I have the HZRDUS 65 in it, and it didn't feel too light. Usually when I go too light on a fairway club I end up topping it all day long.

I tried to earlier but someone must have liked the 11.5 more because they walked out with it.

The stock shaft is not bad at all. I actually fit well into that shaft but had the best results with the IZ and decided to splurge on it.

I got a chance to swing one in a simulator against my TS3, I saw a 5 mph head speed increase... I was shocked because of the shorter shaft. I wanted to compare it to my 13 degree fairway, but the guy told me to grab my driver....

I was feeling pretty limber at that moment though. Maybe more confidence, lie angle.... I dunno, cool tech though.

I hit the stock stiff 13.5 tonight. I was surprised and happy with it. The shaft was not a great fit, and I still hit my driver way further but I got great controlled ball flights with this. I hardly ever hit my 3 wood off the ground so I am seriously thinking about this as a control driver/play club. I was getting 170-171 ball speed right at 3000 spin and was very straight. I think with the right shaft that spin number could come down and I could get a few more yards carry. I hit it off the ground as , it is doable but I think that it is not really what this is made for.

I liked it. I could see the 13.5 playing very well. I am not sure that the 11.5 has a benefit for me personally. Would go too far really and would be even hard to hit off the ground if I needed to.

Can anyone tell me the head weight of the 13.5 please. Sorry if it's already been posted somewhere.

I think that Mini drivers have a place in a golf bag no doubt depending on the type of player. I play a Cally 1.5 Mini setup on tight courses and carry my 3 wood to allow the opportunity to still go for par 5 greens in two. But when I carry driver in the bag I carry my 4 wood to still have the same option on par fives. I hit the mini 280 carry finishing up around 300 but it is 2 1/2 inches shorter than my driver at 43 1/2 inches. I play it in 11 degrees and will never hit it off the deck but it is a great teeing club and I'm glad that I found a brand new back up head because they aren't easy to find nowadays. I think that if you are going to carry either driver or a mini driver then it has a place, but if you are carrying both driver and a mini driver then I can see that not making as much sense.

After really following this thread and checking it out in person. I wish it was a bit bigger and just embraced being completely a mini driver. Something like 300-320cc, exactly like the 300 series models if possible.

It feels lost in between what it wants to be. I wouldn’t ever use it off the deck and it’s not substantially bigger than some strong 3woods I’ve recently played.

Definitely a market out there for this club. Those are my thoughts though. Didn’t fit my eye nor need, therefore not a contender.

Still waiting for mine. To comment on the “tip heavy” comment above, everything I have read about the Hzrdus black shaft (and coming from experience as I have an 85g black 6.5 in my m6 hybrid) is that it’s initial launch is higher than most low low shafts. MGS had an interesting test on this. My m6 hybrid goes high and is launch window is fantastic. I had a hzrdus red in my c300 last year and launch was lower, perhaps reconfirming MGS’s testing. Looking forward to the mini with the black as an anti left fairway finder.

I’m speaking in regards to balance point and weighting.

The hybrid shaft in 85g doesn’t really carry over when comparing to drivers; the hybrid in 95/105g is when you get more of an apples to apples.

Keep us posted.

For the time being until I can demo one I'm experimenting with a TM R15 14* lofted to 12* with a Diamana R80x. So far so good.

13.5 dialed down to 11.5. And the Hzrdus black 75 gives me nice mid launch flight and isn’t taxing to swing with.

The trip across the Atlantic complete, let’s see if The Original can knock out Callaway’s original from my bag. First impressions, head looks a lot bigger, and feels heavier to hold than the Mini 1.5. Won’t get to hit them until next week however so we’ll see then pm8ek9ro652z.jpeg

Btw I find that if I loft down I can't see the face opening. First time this has happened with any club.

I have the 11.5 head, and for me it is easier and longer than the 13.5 degree Rogue SZ I had off the deck. I kept my driver and play the mini as my only fairway wood, but use it off the tee quite a bit. The only thing I don't like is the stock stiff shaft seems kind of "loose". Planning on trying some different shafts.
