How’s your golf going this year?

> Glad to read this thread and thanks to the OP for posting. Very sorry to hear about your situation OP. I am in a miniature version of you are going through: had rotator cuff repair surgery Wednesday before the Masters. Made for a great Masters viewing week (no work, laid up on a couch and not expected to do anything). But now I’m told I have ~5 months of rehab ahead, before I get my range of motion back. Pining for my first round, but expecting it will be October before it happens.

> Anyone had this surgery? How long did it take to get back on the course?

Sorry to hear. My cousin's husband had this but came back before the end of rehab. Hope you do to. Ive set July as my first round, Dr approval or not. That would be a month. Last time I waited 2 1/2 months. Not happening again.

I want to like everyone of these. Even if you are having a bad year. Because a bad year of golf is better than no golf at all.

I moved from a very good downland course in the South of England to Berwick-upon-Tweed right on the Scottish border and only 55 miles from Edinburgh. From a tight 6350 yard par 70 to a glorious monster - **Goswick Golf Club**, 6650 yards of perfect links golf. Forget North Berwick guys - this is so much better; and a lot cheaper too!

The recent Easterly winds have been a nightmare, 7 to 13 are straight into wind, 25 to 30 mph and temperatures around 7C/44F. It's been a humbling experience shooting in the high 80's all the time. Things, however, are starting to look up. I played the back nine in 38 - only 2 over par. All I need to do now is sort out the front 9 and I'll improve from dreadful to merely mediocre!

Next week I'm hoping to get my new MP-18's with Recoil 95 R shafts. Hopefully this will make a big difference.

Only 3 more medal rounds before a handicap review - can't wait. ;)

I have very limited time playing this year. Unlike last year, we got a membership, we played almost every other day. So with that said, I am struggling to put together a great round. We started playing last April, so it's too early but I cannot believe how hard it is when you play once a week and expect a great score, like low 80's or high 70's. I am disappointed but I need to accept that it is what it is. At least I still get to play at least 3 x a month.

Turns out I should have learned to play in the wind while growing up in Texas... working on lagging my hands with some decent success... listening to the chasing scratch podcast and I’m going to try to do something I heard there. This is a bad idea.

77-80-74 are my rounds so far this year. Best string of rounds I’ve put together since I started back last year. I play to about an 8 and I’m looking to cut that in half this season. If only I could chip...

Yo-yoing around a bit.

Tourney yesterday. Was expecting to play well - shot 92 on a difficult course...allowed myself to get overly frustrated, bad vibes came to the surface.

Today, casual round at challenging course, no expectations whatsoever - shot 80 (42-38) with 8 pars in a row to close...feeling great right now!

I lost two balls in the rough this weekend because they haven't been able to mow in forever due to rain.

God that is annoying. And they were both on decent shots!

Not to mention that if you DID find your ball, the rough was ridiculously penalizing.

Had goals of shooting in the 70s consistently and have carded 83-92-94-90.

Today had 3 birdies. And still shot 90. A quarter of the time I look like a 3, 3/4 the time I look like an 18. What a weird game.

It was one of those days that you only wish for, just gorgeous. Started with a birdie, and finished with a 41, walking nine. My buddy was smack talking before we went, and I took him out by the fifth hole, sad! I have been struggling with the irons, but not today! Every thing started clicking and I felt I could have gone much lower. It is so much fun walking and pushing my Clic Gear cart. We caught up with two other golfers also with Clic Gear carts. My Ping Glide 50* wedge was sticking the pins. Just a beautiful day.

Weird year so far. Play a decent front or back nine But the other nine JP plays rather loosely or even poorly. Fourth round in a row this has happened. Feels like mental fatigue as it doesn’t feel like it’s physically based...weird.

My usual bounce around

I play harder courses well and easier rated courses poorly.

I shot 85 last week on a 68.6/116 rated course and 77 on a 71.9/139 rated course.

I would say my Iron play overall has improved over earlier this year, and putting has a slight improvement generally.

My driving has been consistently better since moving from an Epic/Speeder 661 combo to G400/HZRDUS Yellow combo.

I’m playing regularly, and doing an awful lot of experimentation with different clubs, shafts, swingweights, putters, and various swing changes and absolutely loving it.

My putting has been absolutely terrible since I started playing again two years ago after a twenty year break, so I decided to do something about it. I checked Brad Faxon, watched some videos and settled on a small forward press which has revolutionised my scoring, really hugely better than it was just a couple of months ago. I also decided to splash out on a number of putters to trial, with and without Toe-hang, this Too has been a revelation as I actually look forward to trialling them rather than simple putting which can be really boring. I now have confidence, which makes a world of difference.

I’ve also swapped a couple of Cleveland CBX wedges out and gone back to my MD4 58* and added a Ping G410 SW. I have to say, certainly on firmer ground, the MD4 is a much better club than the CBX, less so on soft ground. Really chipping well, although I only use the 58 and 64 when I feel I need to. For regular chip and runs I’m using anything from 8I to UW, and am surprised that I appear to be getting closer than ever with whatever club I choose. Maybe it’s just practice, but again I’ve gained a bag of confidence through finding a stroke that works, trial and error.

Similarly I’ve also got a couple of new, stiffer shafts for my driver, and also purchased a TM Mini Driver. Again, it’s added to the fun in trying stuff out.

The upshot is that I’m regularly getting 10-12 pars and have managed to cut down the number of double bogeys to one or two per round, broken 80 a few times recently.

Ok, I’ve spent more than I should’ve, but finding that I pitch really well with the G410 SW, yet better hitting a 3/4 UW on that 100 yard shot rather than a full SW is helping.

I’m hopeful that by the end of this calendar year I’ll be disappointed with anything over 80. Then I’ll sell on my least favourite clubs as I have a couple too many.

Haven't played a lot of golf yet. Playing LCP so far until last night in competition. Shot 75 and 76 in my two rounds so far in money games and shot 37 3 times in 9 hole games, shot 36 one and my two leagues started this week. Shot 37 Tuesday and 37 last night going triple bogey, birdie, 6 pars, birdie. Could or easily been under last night even with the triple.

If my wedge game was on I'd be near scratch right now.

29yo - both hips labral/fai - both didn’t heal quite right. Amongst many other injuries from basketball

Had game when body was 70% or better

Haven’t felt that way in a while. The surgeries/procedures really suck your golf soul out. I’m glad mine was huge.

Taking this season really slow still haven’t played a round. Recently had two prp shots so letting them work...

I’ll dream with you mate. I might skip the year to totally heal - just short game mastery.

I've now played 10 rounds, all of which have been between an 87 and a 92.

The consistency is really nice. I want to say that I'll break through in scoring one way or another as the summer goes along. I know that I have to be realistic about it because I just don't have the time to practice certain aspects of my game. In particular, I didn't hit a single chip or a putt longer than 5 feet in the week leading up to today's round. So, I can't really expect much from my short game, and I don't. It's kinda freeing when you allow yourself to be mediocre.

Season here in NY officially started on April 15, but a lot of the courses were super wet. Even my club didn’t officially opened until May 10th. So far, pretty good. My winter workout seems to have given me a few extra yards and that’s great. It still a work in progress, but it is always fun.

First society weekend of the year this weekend. Have been able to practice a lot more than last year but still not enough! Went to Forest Pines which is a cracking track in the East of England. Manageable length but as it's through the forest anything offline and you are chipping out. Day 1 I was offline a lot from the tee and couldn't putt leading to a 93. Yesterday however, drove the ball fantastic and hit irons better than I have in years to shoot 80. Wish I was paying more attention to the scorecard, as if I'd holed one of two 10ft putts on 17 and 18 would have broken 80 for the first time in years!

Great weekend and lots of positives for the year ahead!

I know making changes can sometimes wreak havoc on your game so I am trying to ride it out. I have been able to get around fairly well (not enough to keep the handicap from going back up, but not so bad I want to quit and walk off the course). I do need to get in for a lesson asap and sort out what is causing the shank and see if it is a byproduct of progress or an actual problem.

Cure found and working on adding distance since that seems to be the easiest way to bring my handicap down. I have been striking the ball really well from putter to driver just need to tighten up my scoring clubs. In addition to adding distance, I am working on developing a 1 way miss with every club in my bag. In my quest for distance I have gone from a consistent draw with most clubs to a straight push (almost straight) occasionally which is great for the Driver but not so hot with the irons.

Been club hoing too much after I swore that was just a last year thing after coming back to golf. However, finally have 4 rounds with a set I am very comfortable with. Perfect day yesterday and greens were rolling true. I made zero putts lol and put up a 79 from the senior tees slope 112. After that 18 holes, a local college player asked if I wanted to go 9 from the tips slope 122. I asked how many strokes and he said 2 for $10 lol. I hit it great off the tee and he out drove me by 50 yards on most holes. My only grace was he didn't make a putt. It was fun and my even par beat his +2 by four strokes. At 60 years old I know this won't happen many more time...but it was fun :-)

It is hot as h... now, and has the good and the bad going for it. My clubs are going a lot farther than before, but I am exhausted after playing a few holes because of the heat, and playing after work as well. The last few holes I keep blowing up. Oh well. I guess it is time to cool down before playing?!
