PayPal fee situation

This is unbelievable. I can’t believe the buyer had to go through this BS. “I asked for $460 and you sent $443”. WTF???? “I’ve never had to pay for YOUR protection before.” Only every transaction ever on PayPal.

How can this thread even exist? I mean, seriously? Has he ever sold on EBay? What does he do then? “I sold it to you for $100 dollars but you only sent me $87?” EBay/PayPal take 13%. Forever.

I agree with the above. We need the block list now more than ever. I simply can’t believe something like this can occur in 2019. I feel horrible for mattbk104 to have to go through this fecal-show of a transaction.

I hope you enjoy the clubs! Especially since you got them for $17 off. :)

Click his profile and in the upper right click the blue tab and select ignore and it will grey out everything he posts so you know you have him blocked

And to answer the OP’s question-the buyer did nothing wrong. You need to factor in fees and shipping in your price. And do not deal with PayPal friends and family here

“Hundreds of online sales in 25 years”, yet doesn’t know how PayPal works. There’s a lie in there somewhere.

He was selling on eBay before eBay became eBay! And only “hundreds” of sales in 25 years? Must not be doing very much business if he’s only averaging 5-10 sales a year.

My old golf shop I worked for has been on eBay since 2000 and has a rating of almost 28k, and we all know that not every sale ends with a feedback rating either.

I'd love to see his emails to ebay when they shaft him 10% after the sale LOL

Slinging stuff online for 25 years (starting at the ripe age of 13) and has never incurred a transaction fee? Weird too since PayPal has only existed since 1998. And shipping stuff out of a hotel room? He brought a used set of clubs with him to sell while on vacation/work trip?

What in high hell this just keeps getting better.

My bet is OP lives in his mom's basement, had his Mom ship the clubs and well

Why has the OP not commented since starting this thread? I think a total scam got exposed - the OP trying to strong arm the buyer into sending more money. Using the fear of non-existent feedback as leverage is shrewd, though this thread seems to have backfired in his scheme.

OP, when a buyer sends you funds via PayPal, PayPal takes a percentage of the funds. When you asked for $460 from the buyer, he did indeed send you your requested amount. However, from there PayPal takes $16 as part of the transaction fee and deducts that from the total amount. The remaining amount of $444 will now be in your account. It is not that the buyer shorted you funds but that you may have not noticed that PayPal takes a fee percentage from every Goods and Services transaction. However, since you have stated that you've been selling for many years you should have known about PayPal fees associated with Goods and Services. Due to this, the buyer did not short you funds. If you wanted to net $460 after fees, you should have requested $476 which would have covered that fee.

I'm sorry that this has happened to you but in your messages you did not indicate that you need to receive $460 after fees. Instead, you requested $460. Sure, you tried to rationalize about having to pay $40 in shipping but that was on you to do your research on shipping cost before saying a price. Chalk this up as a lesson learned in being clear in your communication with the buyer in the future. Buyer does not owe you anything more and has fulfilled his end by paying you what you have asked for, $460.

Thread...end.

I have not. He stated he sent them ups ground earlier so I figured I would give them until Friday. Not sure where they are coming from so not sure how long it will take. Said they couldn’t be sent out last Friday because “ups doesn’t pick up from my hotel today” but they were stated to have been sent out Monday. Never heard of anyone not receiving tracking info either but weirder things have happened. Honestly before the mention of the extra money and the response to me balking at giving it to him it was all like a normal transaction and I would have never second guessed anything.

> No the original request was fine but he asked for an additional $16 via friends and family to make up for his lost $16 that was taken away by PayPal. So essentially it would have been me paying $476 in total. Then told me that he has never had anyone in all of his selling transactions to not do that for him. He said “ I have done many transactions and you are the first to stick me with that fee and not send friends and family. Enjoy them whatever”

You’re absolutely correct. You were asked to pay $460 and you did. Those of us who have done a lot of transactions (my feedback was over 300 when site changed) understand that there’s a cost of doing business and shipping and fees are just that (a cost of doing business). I always list my ads shipped and ppd conus. If someone’s outside conus and wants it shipped to Alaska Hawaii or Canada I always get a shipping quote and let the perspective buyer know what that will be. As a buyer I’ve also had some folks of late ask me to pay for items with friends and family which I refuse to do. Not only because it exposes me to unnecessary risk but it’s against the rules and I use the service a lot. When this happens more often than not I’ll tell the seller I can’t do that but will pay extra if I feel like the deal is a good one.

People shouldn’t get upset because they don’t do

Enough research on the front side to cover their costs.

Rant over.

I just had a buyer pay for the fees on a sale. I was super grateful because in my 100’s of sales online this is the exception and has never been the rule.

Seller: This is the best place to sell, but please do not sell here if you expect people to pay you extra money after you say it is all good. That’s just silly.

So actually they did verify that the funds were in their account and even looked at them and said it was all good. I made sure and even asked them to do that. AFTER they shipped they then came back asking for the extra “missing” funds. I paid on the 12th and they shipped on the 15th.
