Mizuno MP-20 HMB - July 2019

I ordered mine the last week of August. I got word they came in yesterday. Unfortunately I can’t get there to get them till Friday. Either way I’m super excited to play them Monday!!

I’m going to order I don’t know when I should put it in tho. Golf season is coming to an end in the northeast I may just wait till next March.

Or get a quote from Discount Dan's and go to your local fitter with the quote and see what they can do. My local matched all of Discount Dan's prices. Although DD is great for prices, I would rather give my local the business. I spend alot of time there trying all the new offerings, it's only right I give them the business.

This is exactly what I do too. However I do still give DDs over half my business, I support my local guy too. I’m actually about to place a order with DDs for another combo set of MP 20s?

Just my opinion but I’d rather pay a few bucks more to the local place that let’s me hit on the grass range before I buy and I don’t have to pay until I pick them up and everything’s already been checked and inspected.

 

If we don’t support these types of businesses they’re going to keep disappearing and it’ll become more and more difficult to find places to demo clubs that don’t charge out the wazoo like some do. I live in a state with 12 million ish people and the closest place that has much of anything to demo anymore is 45 mins away.

Just got back from my first range session. I got the 4 and 5 in HMB, 6-8 in MMC and 9 and PW in blade. They are all solid. The HMB surprised me in that I was expecting it to feel less good than the other two, but it does not. It feels great. I could easily go HMB in an entire set. I could easily go MMC in an entire set as well. Really, it just boils down to what you want/need. I don't think anyone would really be losing out too much on sound/feel by choosing the HMB. I am seriously thinking about getting a 3 iron HMB and either kicking the hybrid or going to a two wedge setup.

Ordered 5- PW HMB's with Recoil 95's today from Dallas Golf. They think I will get them in about 2 weeks.

Also just back from my first range session with a full set of HMB 4-P with Recoil 95 shafts, R flex. My hc has been between 13-15 this season.

 

Until a month ago I've been playing Titleist 712 AP1s with Recoil 65g shafts. The HMB are a massive and wonderful improvement over those. This is both because the 65g shafts were too light for me and the HMB heads sound and feel _much_ nicer. Significantly nicer.

 

After I put in the order for the MB20s, I lost interest in the AP1s and started playing a set of Mizuno MP-32 muscle backs with stiff DG100s. _Those_ were too heavy for me, but the MP32s are so much fun to play. I'd never enjoyed a good strike as much as I did with those. The extra carrot/stick motivation to concentrate and put the club face properly on the ball was good for me.

 

So after a large bucket of crappy balls with the HMBs, here are my initial thoughts:

The HMBs are great in both feel and looks, especially for a forgiving head. Wonderful. I love them. Mishits fared much better than they do with the MP32s. I may have gone too light with the shafts, or the shock absorption of the Recoils might be dampening the feel a bit, but good strikes were more satisfying with the MP32s. I have wrist issues, so I went with the graphite Recoils, but I'm wishing I had spent more time with the Modus 105s. That also may be a result of going from the heavy stiffs to the lighter regulars. We'll see how I feel in a few weeks.

They were fun to hit and gave good feed back (again, not as much as the MP32s, but likely a result of the shafts). Especially the 4 iron, which I had trouble with in the AP1s, was f-n' great. I was hitting it 175 carry/ 195 total on the launch monitor and I've never hit an iron that far. So in the immediate term, I'll be replacing my 3 and 5 hybrids with the HMB 4 and 5 irons.

 

I'll try to check back in after I've played them for a week or two.

I took mine out cold today for league. They feel great and just as long and forgiving as my T200's. I have a tournament Saturday so that will be more of a test.

I’ve been going back and forth between the T200’s and the HMB’s. Both great choices. Let us know your thoughts when you’ve spent a little more time with the HMB’s. Will be watching for your input.

Bag looks great! The 2 iron looks to have a significantly longer blade length than the 4i. Is that the case, or just the angle of the pic?

Definitely just the angle. I just put them side by side and they are identical. It might be the sole thickness giving the illusion. The 4 iron has quite a bit thinner sole than the 2 iron.

Pics don’t do them justice. Today was my first time seeing the whole set. They are freaking beautiful!

North of Calgary but a risk of some snow, hopefully i’ll Get another couple rounds in next week

I would never lie about this. In the city they're estimating 3-4", more west and south of us. With the wind chill in the next couple of mornings, we'll be around 23ºF (https://weather.gc.ca/city/pages/ab-52_metric_e.html)
