Branding and storytelling are not anything I care about, as for the rest, Mizuno has met and exceeded my every expectation at $150 am iron. They have a pretty solid history and reputation to stand on.

Would love to hear more of anyone’s thoughts on the Gen3 vs. the 2019 P790. I have tried almost every iron out there right now and the new P790 really stuck with me, it’s a huge improvement over last gen. I have hit Gen1 and Gen2 PXG’s on the range and they always feel great and have loads of forgiveness.

Not a huge fan of the price but hey we spend well north of $425/club when it comes to our putters, hybrids, and drivers, so what’s really the difference? Also, maybe the steep price point would actually make me stick with some clubs for a while and stop ho’ing everything!

If anyone has directly compared the two irons, let me know your thoughts and which Gen3 iron closely matches the P790’s.

well you youve hit the gen2 how did that compare to your 790 should be a decent baseline if you didnt see anything their that was worth the change either hit the gen 3 or stick with what youve got

im with you warrick i play the st and i love them but buying them had nothing to do with branding and storytelling im just a guy who wastes money on clubs haa. as far as quality and performance i think some of the japanese forging houses like endo,miura and as you said mizuno would have to say something about who makes the best quality. point is these forums are for entertainment purposes only. this time of year is great and usually the driver releases make for the best reading in my opinion so happy reading.

I really like Mizuno and I love the MP-20 blades. The GEN3 0311T's edged them out for me because of distance and forgiveness due to obvious differences in construction. The feel was the closest I got to the MP-20 blades in a more player friendly player's iron. I was not a fan of the MP-20 MMC or MP-20 Hot Metal in fittings.

Hey, if they are the right fit, and the cost is not an issue, more power to you all. I did a custom set of my Mizuno, wanted something fancy, spent more than needed.

I’m sure they fit a good number of people as most OEM’s do. A top 100 fitter and frequent Golfwrx contributor stopped carrying them, I found out when I asked about the gen 3’s. Think huge company, not like a single local fitter with a studio. They only saw a performance upgrade in a fraction of people and golfers were going another direction considering the price difference. That said the new Gen 3’s are the best looking iron set they’ve come out with imo and I’d consider playing them if they were as good as my epons.

I really like the looks of the PXG gen 3 myself. Love that industrial look.

About the horrible resale of the Maltbys it's really to scale of all other clubs offered. They all drop down in value once bought almost by the same percentages. Just at different scales of value.

Trade up program is limited to purchases no later than November 2019.

I just spoke to them. The trade is only for Gen 2 irons that were purchased in the last couple of months. So Nov forward. No other trade in is offered.

the rep did tell me that they are not doing a Gen 3 driving iron and they actually finally admitted (sorry if it was said earlier) that Chez Revie is testing the Gen 3 Proto Driver. No release date on that yet.

so it looks as if my original plan of putting my 2 sets up around April and then going and purchasing the Gen 3’s will have to do. Unless someone on here puts up a set on the BST. ??

Your top 100 fitter is in the business of fitting and selling golf clubs and it is hard to believe they would stop carrying PXG to go in another direction and miss out on a fitting fee/sale regardless of performance vs. value.

PXG HAS been pulling some retail accounts, however, as one (former) PXG authorized dealer told me, "PXG has pulled most Retail accounts, and is focused on the Country Club market."

I would still take all of this with a grain of salt. Could be they are pulling retailers who were not selling at MAP or truly are looking to sell direct / through clubs.

The guy I know with an account told me lots of accounts were getting their pud set and hen not selling anything so they had their account pulled and pxg stopped doing pud for all accounts

Profit margin? That's interesting considering they are a niche/luxury brand. I could understand if Taylormade had smaller profit margins because they move so much product, but PXG having a small profit margin is puzzling.

I did a fitting a few weeks ago at their HQ and put my 2017 790’s against the Gen3 0311 P’s with the same Modus 105 shaft. P’s are the closest. The Gen3 won hands down no questions. Feel, Distance (8 yds), and Accuracy were much better.

When they go on Hero’s program they are mine!!

ST’s were really nice too as well as the new Sugar Daddy wedges.

For those that have demo’ed the T and the P, how much difference in traj and forgiveness did you perceive? I’m on the fence. I play to a 2 to 3 for what it’s worth, not much of a divot taker.

I was quoted 6 to 7 as well...what they don't tell you is they don't start building right away...they're just now getting to orders from the end of December. I called and checked today and it looks like I'm still 2 weeks out from getting mine. I ordered on the 4th.
