2020 TaylorMade SIM and SIM Max drivers (in hand photos, M5/M6 comparison pics)

Hit the TM SIM today on the GC launch monitor. Combo was 8* with PX Smoke green 6.5. I’m a high spin player and struggle to keep spin down but let me tell you, it was a challenge to get this combo to spin enough. It would absolutely punish me on a high toe hit and just nose dive to the left. High launch low spin monster. Ball speeds good but about 2 mph slower than my M6 Raijin Black combo.

Like I said the reg sim is a loft up driver.

i don’t think it’s a coincidence they share the SLDR color scheme.

Dear @TaylorMade Golf ,
Please do not make those who play a shorter than your “standard” length driver have to wait till mid-year to obtain different weights for the SIM drivers. I would much rather purchase weights direct from your company than cheap china knock offs later in the year!

The number on the club is only the first part of the equation. I like a face that looks more square instead of open and I struggle with an open face at impact at times, so I lofted down to 8 in SIM (from 9 in M5) so that I could move the adapter two clicks towards Higher and get a face angle that looks good to me and is more functional. Launch and spin numbers are great right now with SIM.

SIM is a completely different driver than SLDR. COMPLETELY different. SIM has so much weight low and back that launch and spin are going to be naturally higher than SLDR.

I would say 16 or 17 m1 with the back weight all the way back would be a better comparison. But even those drivers had more weight high compared to SIM. From what I've seen in testing, SIM launches similarly to M3 and M4 but with less spin. I haven't hit 16 m1 in a long time and I can't remember what my numbers were in 16 m2 but I believe launch was similar to SIM but sim has lower spin.

I was in 10.5 m5 lofted down to 9.75. I'll be in SIM at 9.0 based on testing with the same shaft on the same day.

I wouldn't confuse SIM with SLDR simply because they both have a movable front weight track. They're nothing alike.

Regular SIM is putting up similar spin number to SLDR along with lower launch than the M series, I totally understand the concept but you are wrong.

You may be an exception with launch but most are finding the opposite. As for lofting down M5 I have mine down .75 as well because it looks hook closed at N.

It is way more SLDR than M series.........With much improved MOI.

I'm far from wrong. CoG articles are easily found. A really good one is from the spy site.

CoG down - dynamic loft increases

CoG back - dynamic loft increases

The opposite is true for CoG forward and up.

The physics around SIM say it will launch higher than SLDR in the same loft because SIM CoG is significantly lower and farther back.

You're making a statement based on people feedback that doesn't include strike differences. Strike overrides some of the physics.

Although I’m not playing a TM right now I proved this theory to myself today. I chatted with one of the members in private message about a distance issue with myself where I feel that I’m killing it but I get down there and I’m 220 yards off the tee, wet fairway no run out, 65 degree weather! After reading their statement, rather your statement, and that YouTube video of a recent Jason day with two other guys that have YouTube videos out there all the time, showing how Maximum height is really the big contributing factor to hitting it further. My Tee shots with the driver yesterday we may be peeking out at 60 feet elevation, today I concentrated on actually choking down on the shaft 2 inches making it shorter to possibly get better ball contact, and T in the ball up about a quarter inch higher where about 3/4 of the ball was above the crown of the driver and I worked on coming up more from a tilted spine angle and I was hitting the ball probably 115 to 120 feet peak and the ball was going out and plugging in the fairway at around 255 so for me it made a huge difference and if the Sim max gives that I may have to give it a look what would be a recommendation for a guy that has about a 95 to 100 mile an hour swing speed and does not get the ball high and less he really have to try?

 

Just a sidenote for Taylor made when I had the M5 I was fitted for the synergy blue 60 stiff with that be the recommendation in a Sim whichever some model you recommend, or whatever shaft is equivalent if that’s no longer an offer?

I hope yours is standard SW. I am truly disappointed at Taylormade for not sending different weights with the demo drivers. Perhaps just not important to them for golfers to have standard SW when demo'ing their new products with any shafts other than their standard shafts.

As you noted earlier, your SW from TM drivers have been close. AND as you indicated that is likely due to the xstiff shaft heavier than the standard shaft used by TM in there Specs section.

I have seen the same for my own builds and did not need to change the weight screws as a result. Now if someone were to use the standard shaft, 3/4" short then I expect it will be too light a SW.

Just to confirm, ordering 1" soft from TM is the same as ordering untipped, correct? I've seen conflicting information on TM tipping practices in different threads, and just want to verify. Thanks!
