2020 TaylorMade SIM and SIM Max drivers (in hand photos, M5/M6 comparison pics)

That's what I like to see. With max you had worse strikes and a more closed face to path. I'm guessing you were striking it toe side center. Spin was lower as a result of the more closed face to path compared to sim. Sim strike was money. M3 strike was good too. We don't see location but 1.48 to 1.49 m3 to sim says the strikes were very similar. As the design suggests, higher launch in sim compared to m3 (assuming m3is 10.5 too). Also as the design suggests, face is closing less with sim. That's should be due to more weight forward than max.

Good post. Did you order the sim?

I think its the same issue I had with my ts3. I spun it too low and it wasn't playable on course. I was at 2000 all day. Ball never worked back on target for me... probably because face was straighter. I like the m1 better because it is up around 2300. that little extra spin makes it more playable. SLDR had similar issues for me.

Wow, that seriously low spin. Would you mind mentioning the difference is forgiveness between the two since you have time with both? 10 hdcp asking. Thanks.

Caught some time between rain yesterday and got out on a nice par 5 that sets up for a draw. Used GPS for my distances. Typically swing 107-110. Sim 9* had some much longer balls than my trusty M5, like 20 yards longer, but also had more balls cutting right than I could count. Noticeably lower spin as most of my M5 shots could see the divot and the ball a yard or two away. Much lower but longer flight with the SIM. I'm pretty low spin anyway, so the SIM isn't going to be a fit for me. Hope the head has a little value on the BST!

I didn’t notice a ton really, the biggest difference I saw the spin on like strikes was slightly (maybe 150-200 rpms) higher with the Max. The Max at address definitely appears to sit more square and seems to have a bigger profile despite being the same CC. The regular was more compact and sat a hair open.

I originally went with the Max but after thinking through it more I’m going to swap it out for the regular 10.5 head.

Totally agree. I personally feel that the MAX produces better numbers, but they are soo close it is hard to tell. I am starting to feel like the MAX is very much like the Cleveland Classic 290 head. It was the middle of the pack head as far as design goes with the 310 supposedly the more "tour" head and the 270 the more forgiving, but it just performs soo well. I am still not 100% sure though as the SIM and MAX are both good.

So I did a thing last night after getting a chance to thoroughly test my current gamer M5 vs SIM vs SIM Max.....don't tell my wife. I honestly went into the fitting wanting the Max to win out as I would be up for all the forgiveness I can get, but the SIM numbers were too good to deny (not to mention it seemingly had plenty of forgiveness even with the smaller face profile). Feel, ballspeed, launch and spin were all better with SIM (9* adjusted one click higher loft). Side note: I will be moving my DI-IZ 7X over from my M5 to the SIM.

This is what I did a couple days after placing my order, luckily was still able to change it. I think if you’re going Max to try the lower loft first if you haven’t been able to test all of the combos. If the regular SIM I received a couple days ago doesn’t work I’ll swap it for the Max. Much prefer to have a little adjustability built into the head though when possible.

The 10.5 head I received also looks better for whatever reason than the ones I looked at in store. Maybe it’s the shallower profile and the additional loft just looks more forgiving, I’m not sure.

Just ordered my Sim/HZRDUS Green combo. Going to try throwing in an M5 weight to get the weight up in the head.

One thing I noticed in testing was that the Sim was substantially longer with the Smoke Green Shaft compared to the stock Diamana’s.

Strange because I’ve never had such a large difference in distance off of just a shaft change at around the same weight.
