2020 TaylorMade SIM and SIM Max drivers (in hand photos, M5/M6 comparison pics)

Finally got a proper Trackman session with my 8* with Ventus Black at 44".

Went shorter for accuracy after playing the Epic Flash SZ at stock length for a season. It was great, but would get away from me from time to time. Had to fiddle with the sliding weight and the loft constantly.

SIM is fantastic, and I can still swing it at 115 mph with a little extra effort. Doesn't affect dispersion. I left everything the way it came, and I was impressed. I might be able to drop it down to somewhere in the 7* range and get a little more out of it, but from what I saw I don't want to mess with success. I'm going back tomorrow to hit more clubs, and I'll grab data if I remember.

What is stock weight in the Sim again. Too many pages to go through. Thanks. Have a head coming and want to play it at 44.75”.

Anyone replacing the back weight instead adding to the from weight? I might just pick up a 4 gram to add to the front.

Got fit for the Sim yesterday. 9 degree set at 10, HZRDUS Smoke Green 60 6.0. About 1/4 up the fade side on the slider.

It looks so good at address it’s unreal, can’t overstate the confidence it gives you before you take it back. Shaft a little lighter than I usually go for. I am usually 104-105mph club head but was consistently getting 107-108mph. 13 -14 degree launch. 2,500 spin. 265 carry, 290 ish total (Trackman outdoors) The biggest thing to me was that nothing went left with it, not once, hit about 20-25 balls. Aim slightly left of target and swing away and it was either straight or straight baby fade. Even my bad block swing was 250 carry and in the light rough.

Am obviously going to get a small batch green even if the tolerances are slightly different for the looks.

I went with 10.5. Ive played 9* for 10 years and the 9 in the SIM was so low launch and spin I couldn't hit it... 10.5 was a perfect fit.. Launched lower than my m5 9* (12* compared to 14.5*). Spin was a much more respectable number also between 2200 - 2400.

Β

Most important thing was 10.5 was easier to control. 9* was very hard to hit, I cant even begin to think who would fit in the 8*!!

Hope so. The profile is pretty much exactly what I like mid launch and lower spin. I am buying it totally blind. Ordered a 70TX.

I'll give a little counter to the SIM love fest. I ordered a 9 degree w/ Ventus 70 Blue w/ velocore stiff tipped 1/2" direct. My M3 440 flat out performed, and I don't miss many fairways. I love my M3 440 w/ D+ LTD 70 stiff tipped 1/2" playing at 44.75". Driving the ball is a strength.

The SIM's first round was worse than any driver I've ever hit before. Trackman said this was the combo for me, but the performance on the course was not debatable. This was the worst feeling, worst sounding, worst performing driver I've ever hit. My SIM had a high pitch like the TS4 sound, which is absolutely awful. It was so bad I gave it to my head pro after the round and don't care what he does with the thing. I don't even want to look at the club again.

Worst part of the story is I traded in my other 2 drivers and mailed them before my round.

I wouldn't trust a launch monitor with this club. You need to hit it outside.

I agree 100%.

If your handicap is accurate then you're a pretty solid ball striker. If you want the sim to come alive then add a 4g weight to the front track. I didn't get along with the sim with just the standard weight. Had no idea where it was going. I put a 4g weight in the front track with the standard weight and this club became a consistency machine...

My Sim Max arrived today. Custom order direct from Taylormade. Length was spot on at 45" and swing weight was D-4. Head is 200g without adapter. Also got Max 3w at 42.75". Length is correct but Swing weight is a bit light at D-2.5. Shaft is Smoke Black 70 in both.

What shaft and grip are you using that got you D6.5?

I'm wanting to order a SIM stock length with Ventus Black 7X and midsize tour velvet. Wanting to be D5-7 and it'll feel good anywhere in that range. Just wondering if I need it trimmed .25 or .5 inches to get it in that range or if it'll be fine without.
