Agreed. Why would they have to cancel the order? Why not just tell Mr. Earlybird that they weren't quite ready to accept orders and they'd ship his order out in a week or two if he could wait that long. And throw in a keychain bottle opener for his troubles.

Fyi, saw an article that mentioned these and other Hogan’s would now be available at Club Champion, and potentially other fitters, which would have previously been one of my major factors in not considering them. I have become a full on believer in fittings, and to have these available to compare directly in the feel/looks and obviously performance departments is huge for me.

If memory serves, they have a pretty robust demo program. You tell them what you want to try (head and shaft) and they send you two irons to demo for a few weeks. So, even if they aren't available at CC, you can still demo them pretty easily.

I did this with the Edge Irons when they first come out... it could not have been any easier to do.

I have a feeling a combo set will be coming. The looks are to similar not to plus I believe they have the same lofts as the PTX pro irons

I understand your frustration, but I also think that is part of their model. It's like buying a brand new Chevy Spark for $14K and expecting it come with power windows and locks... that's not to say that Hogan irons are bottom of the barrel, but the reason they are able to be sold for their price-point is that they are not truly customizable.

It is not because they aren't customizable it is because they are direct to consumer.

I’ll split the difference with you. Part of their cost savings is definitely the direct-to-consumer aspect, but that’s only part of it. New Level Golf is DTC, but they are more expensive due to customization.

It is clearly a cost-saver for them to offer only one loft for each club, one of only three shafts, and only one grip in one of two sizes. The more options they offer, the more stock they must keep and the more their overhead becomes. If they start offering split sets, that requires more man-hours (to split the sets), and the same goes for loft changes, more grips and shafts, etc.

More SKU’s equals more overhead equals higher costs.

If you need something they don't have you will soon be able to find a fitter supported under their new program. So high in the barrel you can just skim the froth off the top.

You are able to get the lofts adjusted when ordering, think they said they can bend them up to 2*. As for shafts I really do wish they had at least a couple more options

Has anyone bent a set of the newer Hogan irons weak? Would it affect the bounce more than an iron with a conventional sole?

I just picked up a set on pre-order with the KBS Tour V stiff shaft, standard L/L/L. These looks terrific! I wasn't in the market for a set of irons but ........ . If I need to tweak these a bit I have a loft and lie machine mounted on my work bench in my garage. These might make my backup set of 1999 Ben Hogan Apex blades expendable.

If I didn't have 88's, 99's, aaaand 03's, and did have the extra 700 smackaroos, I would certainly put these in the bag.

For now though, it's going to be like the guitar in Wayne's World, I'll just look at it longingly and say "yes, it will be mine"...

Looks very similar to the 03. I wish they'd re-release/re-imagine an apex shaft though...

Dave, my guess is taper tip. I sent the question to The Ben Hogan Golf Company. Awaiting their response and will post when I get it.

I called and they will have demo irons in about 2 weeks. I am not sure I want to pay the demo fee, but it will be an option soon for those that want to try them.

The demo fee is $20 and that is basically shipping to you and back to them. Not bad for 14 days of testing if you ask me.

Great looking. But why no 3 iron ? I realize that a lot play a hybrid there. But. I’d venture more than half the hogan blade buyers would include a 3 iron . Makes the price looK cheaper than it is. Basically $949 iron set if it had 3 iron. Not really that much cheaper than anyone else. Like say Wilson staff. Cobra.

$110 a club is pretty solid and the ones you mentioned are around $150-$160 a club. No one need a 3 iron now a days.

No worries about a lack of a 3 iron. I might try to find a 1999 Apex blade 2 iron. That had 21 degrees of loft so the loft progression would be good. Then again I could either go with another hybrid or a 4th wedge. Options, options, options.
