While PGA Tour events are down, here's an idea...

Since the tournament venues have been prepped and TV needs something to sell ads for, how about having a series of match play events with the top 50? 16 players, match play, four rounds played at the regular tournament venues, no crowds, TV only.

I'd be entertained and the risk seems incredibly low, follows CDC protocols.

They should play the Masters without fans...uh...patrons. Players, caddies, officials, volunteers and tv crews.....all outside in the sunshine and fresh air....safer than going to Costco for toilet paper and chicken.

Imagine how much they could sell the TV rights for. All those golf fans not going out will be home glued to the tv for 4 days.

fortunately I have 2 main sports--Golf and Archery ..

right now I am shooting arrows at my backyard 25M range and will play in my indoor league in some scheduled tournaments--unless these are cancelled..

Reason not playing is more then just the golfers you see on the course. Enormous support staff involved in producing an event like that and any broadcast producing involved -- , travel, hotels, catering, other logistics, etc etc. even with no spectators.

Tour doesn't want to appear to be out of touch with real world.

Let's get back on track. If Phil discovered all his clubs except his wedges were infected with the virus and all he could use were 14 wedges with none less than 50 degree left, which lofts would he use and why?

But if you are going to play any kind of event without fans, why not do what the PGA originally wanted to do and play the scheduled events without fans?

Sure, it would be fun and something a little different, but if you're going to play, then play The Players and The Masters.

Well Augusta runs their own tournament and definitely doesn’t need money. They’re the one tournament that could run empty.

Unless every player can drive or take a private jet, the whole point of suspending the event in general is to keep people as separated as possible within reason. Being trapped in a aluminum can 30k feet in the air breathing recycled air is not the best idea right now. Not only are public schools closing... entire Universities are now shutting down for the rest of the year.

Networks should just replay old majors or something...I've been pretty entertained by watching replays of Tiger's wins. I literally watched every second of a 4 hour replay on YouTube a bunch of times now.

Is that universally true ? We had school here last week they only closed them today at 4 pm for 2 weeks before scheduled spring break. After zero. Yes zero cases in the schools.

Might depend where you are. We are in the greater NYC area so a place with that many people can explode with infections at an exponential rate. I don't think this corona virus is going to end up particularly deadly but the point is to not overwhelm the healthcare system, so doing this for a while will be a necessary evil. My wife's old university sent out emails today... Shutting down for the rest of the semester it seems, all classes will be online and all on campus living students have to vacate.
