PXG 0311 P Gen 3 Long Term Reviews !

I’ve played Gen 2,3,4. Gen 4 0311P mid and long irons are like cheating. I do wish they had a bit more spin in the shorter irons but they still land soft, just can’t be as aggressive taking on certain flags.

I actually think the soles play very well. The short irons kick out a nice divot and the mid/long irons brush through the turf nicely. Gen 3/4 were noticeably better through the turf than the Gen 2 irons were for me. The one club I can feel a little sole issue is the PW. Just a little chunky going from the set matching PW into my gap, sand, lob.

I like my Gen 3 Ps better than my i210s by quite a bit.  I bought the T gap wedge but if 'I had to do it again I would buy all Ps myself.  The Ps are so forgiving it is ridiculous.  I just wouldn't give that up for the T personally, the T is not as forgiving.  I am not a bad iron player but I still do not want to give up the forgiveness of the P.

I had a similar experience. I really wanted the T’s because they are so compact, but after the 7i, I lost too much in terms of forgiveness…off center hits were more punishing with the T’s compared to the P’s. I considered a combo set but ended up going 5-G with the P. I’m considering adding a 4 iron with a graphite shaft. I typically prefer a hybrid, but I’m tempted to go with the 4 iron with an MMT shaft a half inch short (I typically play a half inch long, so really, I’d be going with the standard length).

Going to get fit next Tuesday for The Gen 3 0311p’s. My luck they will raise the price back up before then.  Looking to move into graphite shafts to alleviate pain from my angry elbows.  Currently playing Project X lz 6.0 in Srixons z585’s.  Price point for a 5-PW at just over 1k with graphite shafts seems like a good deal.  Will report back on how the fitting goes and what I ultimately go with.  Will test against Gen 4’s, T100s/T200, Mizuno 223/225’s and Srixons zx5,Zx7.

I have probably 10 rounds on this set.  I was playing Srixon ZX7/ZX5 combo with Recoil 95F4 shafts before picking up my Gen 3’s.  To show the true hoe in me, I grabbed these right after making my first hole in one with the Srixon’s, then the PXG’s won starting rotation in my bag.

My take:

Srixon feel wins out over ALL others.

Distance between those two sets- maybe half a club in favor of the PXG.

I am not sold on where exactly a forgiving club gets you, but I give that edge to PXG.

PXG less harsh on misses in cold weather.

In the end, Srixon ZX7 and PXG gen 3’s are my favorite clubs on the market.  I could be happy with either but chose PXG.

Just curious, why did you go from a lightweight graphite shaft to a 20g heavier steel shaft?

When I built that set I was having issues with my left elbow because I was a very steep player , being new to the game and was fit into those. That was a year and a half ago and my swing has completely changed since then.

Thanks for the context. I’m always curious. I’ve tinkered with everything from a 55g graphite shaft to an extra stiff 120g steel shaft. I always fall back to steel between 98 and 105 stiff.

Question: with the Elevate 95 shafts, do they use the .370 version (I suspect) or the .355?

I will definitely check back... ordered them almost immediately after hitting a set of Gen 2s.  If the Gen 2 set had a 4i with it, I'd probably own them right now!  5 business days now, just waiting on shipping confirmation...

I did the opposite and really loving it. I went 3 XP, 4-7 P, and 8-GW T…with Forged 56 & 60. I had the T’s bent to match the P spec loft wise and couldn’t really even tell the 7 to the 8 with a nice progression combo wise. Seriously couldn’t think playing another set…really happy going with these since the last ten years of Mizunos.

I seriously considered doing the same and, when the prices come down on Gen 4, I’ll likely add 8-G in the T.

Gen3 XP 5 & 6 and Gen4 7-GW.  Lofts fit better between the G3 6 and G4 7.

G4 swappable weights are very nice as it’s much easier to swingweight rather than using tip weights during install.

Went from a full set of G3 5-GW to the current set.

Combo set came about with some great deals from PXG Express over the holidays when they were running additional 20% off most of their listings and an additional 10% off with a coupon they have until January 31.

Had my fitting yesterday. I did hit the gen 4s a little better but hard to tell with my midwinter swing. I like the 4 but don’t think I want to spend the extra $600 and will likely go with Gen 3 and 2 sugar daddy wedges.

Has anyone hit the Gen 3 or 4 vs the 2021 T200. That is my other option as I get a slight titleist deal but don’t think I want to wait 4 months.

I have not hit the T200 but if it helps, I have hit the 0311T and the 2021 T100... I find the PXG to be more forgiving and also show a little less offset.

My buddy has the Gen 4 0311T and the only difference looks to be that one weight on the cavity as opposed to 3 separate weights in the Gen 3.  The supposed jump in performance from the Gen 2 to 3 leaves little room for the Gen 4 to be THAT much better than the 3 IMO.

Hard to say for anyone. I did feel they were slightly softer and gave me 1-2 mph added ball speed. The difference with all discounts is about $600 for 7 clubs in the gen 4 vs 3. I am going to go with the three due to cost. I ended up with the standard weight in Gen 4 being the best for me so I didn’t really need the adjustability.

Agree what you saw and same as you, went Gen3 because of the cost difference. Gen3 has been so good to me.

Just shows how crazy and subjective feel is. I had z585 irons and switched to Gen3 0311’s and to me they feel much better and softer than my 585’s did.

I did the same, didn’t really see any performance advantage in the Gen4 over Gen3 so I saved the money and went Gen3. I love them, best iron I’ve ever hit.

For me it wasn’t. I didn’t notice any negligible performance or feel advantage in the Gen4 other than being to hit a specific swingweight. Fortunate for me, the Gen3 hit my swingweight target anyways so I went that direction. Glad I did, and love the irons. Best feeling, most forgiving irons I’ve ever played.
