New Apex Irons?

Love the xforged and still have my 2007 and 2018 ones, plus threes 2018 UTs. Currently trying the 770s and had debated waiting to see the new xforged and apex pros.  So glad I went with the 770, these are a disgrace to the xforged names.  Callaway are going to put themselves out of the iron market altogether when you compare this to new TaylorMade, Mizuno  and even srixon launches. Everyone else is making more tech, more forgiveness, but better looking irons. Callaway going the other way. I’ve gone from nearly a full callaway bag in last 2 years renowned just driver and putter left, can’t see it going back the other way.

I am not sure that the market leader in equipment sales is going to go out of business because of a single iron release. One that think many will really like it. We also do not have any kind of press release, or much design info yet..

Not gonna lie, that new UT has my name on it.

The actual X Forged iron looks kinda understated in its appearance, i do understand what @Copacetic is saying about it being a departure from the past alliterations of the model but we will have to see it in hand to make the final call i think.

True of course, I meant more that equipment heads will move away, then the average consumer will follow, 2-3 years later.  Then then will be redesigning everything to get back to where they were.  A bit like where Taylormade have brought themselves back into iron market in last 2 years or so, after a lot of big misses since the rac TP days.

Not really feeling the looks of the X Forged CB's and UT's.  That said, I will buy the 18* UT.  So I guess Callaway wins this round. 🤷‍♂️

Seems to me (and someone in the know correct me if I'm wrong) that Callaway is consolidating the X Forged and Apex Pro models into the X Forged CB.

X Forged has always been a 1 piece forging, and this new version is 4 piece (according to the Japanese website) with a welded on face, much like the previous Apex Pro.

So their players lineup will be: Apex MB, X Forged CB, and Apex (?)

Callaway will be running on Jailbreak for what 4 years now with not much Innovation since. Now they're running out of ideas with irons and just slapping weights in the back.  I think 2021 is going to be a VERY bad year for Callaway.

First company to utilize AI in drivers, woods, and irons.  I wouldn't call that a lack of innovation.  Srixon is just now releasing a line of irons with AI.  Besides, they're golf clubs.  There is only so much that can be done within the confines of the rules.

Since GBB Epic there hasn't been much of a different in performance in lineups and they have been running with same technology and different color schemes. AI technology was cool but what are they doing running even more AI? AI is such an overused techy word to sound cool (just being honest no matter the brand).

I'll stick with my original comment on irons: They look awful and this is not going to be a good year for Callaway for sales.

Sure, AI has become a bit of a buzz word thrown around way too often.  They aren't inventing SkyNet and the Arnold won't be coming out of a Callaway facility any time soon.

110 The Terminator Gifs - Gif Abyss

But, they are using it to design and test models more models in a design cycle than regular humans couldn't even dream of testing.  If we're talking technology, I would be curious to hear of any other OEM that has done more in that same amount of time.  Not saying it isn't possible.  But, I sure can't think of any.  Same in terms of performance.  Is there any OEM's that have released a product that made a huge jump in performance assuming they weren't behind the pack in the first place?

And, with aesthetics, I get it.  They're not going to be for everyone.  I personally like the look, but you don't and that's fine.  I would wager that their sales aren't going aren't going to suffer. But, who knows.

Well in last several years its really only groundbreaking tech in drivers sure wasnt Flash Face or Speedzone

I also would assume if that plate is adjustible and comes in diff weight options the lofts on these would be stronger?

Apex irons have gone downhill looks wise since the CF16. I think Callaway is really missing Harry's guidance.

Agreed. CF16 is such a nice iron, and totally blew away competition. Then CF19 was only ok and at par with most of the competition at the time. Now CF21 is due; it does not look good from what we see of X-forged 21. Other competitors like Taylormade and Ping just step up their games while Callaway has been relatively lagging behind.

I can see a nice combo set here:

4i UT

5i X-forged 1* weak

6i-8i X-forged 2* weak

9i+PW MB 1* weak

Would give me the same lofts as my current set now with a more playable 4i and more compact 9 + PW.

Sadly those will quite likely be super expensive and my budget right now says no as I already have spent and plan to spend too much on golf this season

Callaway Rogue ST Max 10.5° @9.5°

Cobra Radspeed Big Tour @ 15.5°

Mizuno ST-Z 230 19°@20°

PING i230 4-U, +1/2", green dot
Cleveland RTX Zipcore 54° Full Sole

Cleveland RTX Zipcore 60° Mid Sole

The UT looks a lot more similar to the set irons than it did in the last iteration.  I am eager to see if it blends well aesthetically and distance wise.  I like the concept of an easier to hit 4 iron.  I don't want a huge gap between that and my 5 iron though.  I hope they have some different variations to demo here.  Typically we only get one or two bonded clubs in the shop I go to and are limited in loft and shaft.
