If you could live anywhere in the world to play golf...

just for fun, imagine you're completely unencumbered and obligation-free.

where would you live to maximize your golf and why?

My dad is living a decent life splitting time between Idaho (summer) and Palm Springs, CA (Winter)... basically can play golf year round.

I agree Florida is problematic due to the heat... When I lived in Dallas, I played golf more or less year round (but then you have to live in Dallas). Plenty of good southern cities that have pretty temperate weather.

California is a great choice, especially if you have plenty of cash on hand... Northern California has some amazing courses, and I'd probably pick it over Southern California.

I lived in San Diego 15 years ago, and have little desire to move back. Carlsbad is a great place for golf, especially.

Probably some interesting cities in other countries to pick from, but I haven't played much golf outside the US... I'd probably pick Monterey, CA for retirement if I could afford it (and to play golf up there)

I  love humid heat- easier to breathe and good for the skin !

those are both very good points.

i think dry heat is less noticeable but you're right about breathing and the skin; i've spent the past few months in denver and feel like a desiccated asthmatic ?

Honestly, I'm pretty happy in Missouri.  The cost of living is low, and I'm happy to tee it up just about anywhere.  There are some courses around the world I'd love to play for sure, but I imagine  they're much more crowded than my local track and the company probably wouldn't be as good.

New Zealand not a bad shout. A cold day in winter Is about 40* F, and it rarely gets hotter than 85* F in the peak of summer. Second only to Scotland in golf courses per capita, including a decent number in the top 100 in the world. Typical course membership will be around $750 USD to full playing rights, no initiation fees. Maybe a handful of courses in the country have a green fee higher than $80 USD to play.

had no idea -- that's absolutely amazing! i've only stopped in auckland during layovers but never stepped foot outside of the airport. i'm starting to think that was a mistake!

i have a couple of non-golfer friends who lived out there for about a year. split time between the mountains and the coast. their pictures were enviable. never imagined it was such a golf hot spot though.

I'm in Hawai'i. It's great to be able to play year round, and there are some good courses here, for sure. As you all know, I imagine, the cost of living is obscene and this place keeps getting more crowded and hotter. So, ups and downs.

If I could choose anywhere and money was no object, it would be all the courses near Pebble.

Now the question is do we pay for golf or is it included. Thats a big factor. I would not mind living on 17 mile drive and be able to play pebble, spyglass, spanish Bay, poppy hills.

man, if i won mega millions that's probably where i'd head. probably my favorite part of the world. top 3 at the very least. ?

anyway, i wanted to encourage as much creativity as possible so no constraints for answers. that being said, as a single digital nomad i'm very keen to learn about relatively inexpensive yet livable places anywhere in the world. e.g. i've been day dreaming about NZ since @gentles mentioned it above.
