Epic Speed 💎💎💎 Multi Angle

So you would rather Callaway mass produce Tour heads that a very small % of the golfing community could actually play effectively? As opposed to producing product the grand majority likes, uses, performs well with? You say the Tour heads “look better” for example. To you or many better player gear enthusiasts sure. Myself included in many cases. Do you know or understand how small of a demo that is? It’s microscopic. I’m proud we lifted the veil, nothing to hide just trying to inform, explain the whys and how’s of the Best players in the world. Tour heads take many forms and versions on every truck or tour dept. Cally makes them available in limited quantities because it’s designed for a limited amount of players. that’s a great thing.

The club business is a business. I know Mercedes makes race car engines but I’m not bummed at them for not giving me the option to put one in a c-class so I can go 190 on I-10. And if I wanted it and could afford it, I’d understand why it was expensive.

Most people want to play well...sticking tour heads in their hands isn’t the first idea that pops in my head to make that happen.

Sorry your bummed.

I wouldn’t make the direct trade (Epic Speed for the Epic Speed Triple Diamond) across the board for all golfers. However, there are a number of players that are good and want a specific look/feel/performance from a driver that the OEMs “skip” past. It’s similar (only in concept, not scale) to how left handed golfers felt a few years back, and may still feel today with how certain clubs were not available to them. I don’t think Callaway should mass produce Tour heads, but I do think they should make them available to the public on a limited scale and be open/honest about the clubs.

I will say it is not similar to TM from the past as they seemed to hide the fact there were tour heads and different heads available. You have done a great job of explaining the differences AND showing us that they are out there. I love how up front you specifically have been about it. However, my personal preference is that the Tour heads be available to some extent and scale for the players that are out there looking for something different than what “works for the masses”.

But we do make them available. TCB, 💎💎💎 is all available to the public thru a direct fitter. If you want them you can get them. Hell you can even get raw TCB's if you want them. It's happening right now. And for the record a good chunk of our staff play the retail heads, Stenson, Mav, Wallace, Lewis to name a few. Point is yes "Tour heads have characteristics that a good portion of us respond to and want but I think its cool that we are the one company that actually sells these things. Im not sure about the open/honest portion, we sell them....with info describing what they are and have for years. What else do you suggest we do? Do an episode on Oprah? Forgive if this comes off as argumentative but ive seen how it works on all fronts. What we do IS communicative and open. Theres no secret VIP champagne room with unicorn missiles and vibranium driver heads. We try to put the best clubs in the hands of everyone we can. Some in mass quantities and some in limited. Tour players require more nuance so we give it to them and in the same breath try to accommodate the demo that wants that type of equipment.....which is microscopic in relation to the rest of the golfing world. Just my 2 cents.

My irons are firmly rooted in my bag, but did you say raw TCB?

I had to jump through hoops to get my ESTD and I’m a dealer. I was also told the raw TCBs are a Tour Only item and the standard TCB was not available. I also, can’t get the 8.5 ESTD or the ESTD LS. Not that I need to get them, but there are clubs that I have been told are not available to me.

I truly appreciate the way Callaway is open about it, and I said that earlier. I also appreciate you and your response.

Well you work for them. But to me it just resembles TM from a few years ago. And I personally don’t think that’s a great look.

This is so much fun to talk about though isn’t it?! God I love this game. Blessings brother. Any questions don’t hesitate. I love em all.

Hi Johnny, love your work!

Just a quick question, the 8.5 loft heads as compared to the 9... What differences are there in addition to the loft?

It seems some of the ones I have hit have had a different internal bias, is this right? Or is it just my brain making it up?

To my knowledge it’s just the loft if you are talking about 💎💎💎 std. The LS and DS have different internal profiles. Truly hard to say without actually seeing the heads you hit. The ones on the truck come naked so to speak and our guys will adjust external and internal weighting to accommodate flight for the players. Sole (back and front) Weight and Rat glue.

wish I had a better answer:( Flying a little blind.

@JohnnyCallaway, thanks for willingness to respond and best wishes for much success in your new role, know you will thrive due to honest passion for the game and gear. I also wanted to thank you for going there so I could find more 962b sets again😀 Back on topic,  got opportunity to hit a 10.5* Epic Speed 💎💎💎 and it was really impressive piece of gear. Know Matt Wallace is using a fairly standard product in big stick,  will be interesting if you can convert him to full gear nerd down the line😀

I remember the Duffy Tm heads and all of the TM tour only stuff that you had to pay through the nose for.

It is a way of doing business, but TM got killed for it over the years and finally made some changes.

Will the same happen to Callaway?  Who knows, maybe because their stuff isn't available to a sole few people and Bombsquad maybe it will be successful.

I play the EPIC MAX LS, I have tried the EPIC MAX LS TD and did not care for it.  The retail was better on toe strikes, and the spin was more manageable.  Sure I hit some absolute bombs with the TD, but not enough good/OK drives.  Golf is all about how good your misses are not how good your great shots are.

For some people one of the TD Epic heads may be a better on course driver than the retail, but I can guarantee this.  It is not the best for the majority of the golfing public, otherwise only a complete fool would make them this difficult to get.  Selling product is about making the best product that fits to most people and getting them to try it.  The TD heads are NOT the best for the majority of golfers, unless you think everyone in charge at Callaway is a complete moron.

So @JohnnyCallaway when I visit with my local Callaway rep on 20.May and get 'fit', if nothing is getting spin down, I can talk triple diamond heads and they will know what I am talking about?  I am very intrigued and you can see in my signature I can't seem to shake an old BB Alpha from my bag.

I don’t get why they are being sold elsewhere for so much if they can be had for the same price as the retail heads? I got quotes from reputable online sellers the the cheapest I got was $650 per head plus shipping?

Supply & Demand...it could be that some of the specialty fitters, tour trucks, etc. were able to get first batch of supply...limited supply/quantity = higher price???  Seems like perhaps Fairway Golf may be able to place orders through Callaway based upon their sales volume and pass along at MSRP?  Just my $0.02 and speculation...
