Where do you get boxes to ship clubs?

Sorry not really sure which forum to put this topic.

 

Where do y'all get boxes to ship your golf clubs to people when you sell them? Ive tried the shipping stores and they don't carry those sizes. Nothing for irons or longer for drivers. Does anyone have a good lead on where I can buy one to two boxes?

I bought 10 x 10 x 48", 6 x6 x 48", and 4 x4 x 48" boxes at the local UPS Store by my house. These stores are franchises so I don't know if all of the stores will have the boxes you need but it might be worth a try?

I get most of my boxes from the golf course I play.  They have a closet full of boxes people like me gladly take off their hands.

You can also try going to a big box store like Dick's and just ask if they have an empty irons/driver box they're throwing out.  They shouldn't give you any gruff about taking a box because it's not like they're going to do anything with it otherwise.

Simple answer......you just need to buy more clubs and have them shipped to you!  Then you’ll have plenty of boxes. 
 

Serious answer though, when I was out I always checked with the pros at the courses I played. They usually had several lying around.

How did you get them to you.  Were they in a box? Save the good ones...

Search for 'Cardboard Packing Mailing Tall Shipping', and you'll find a variety of sizes. 4" x 4" are good for irons, hybrids, and woods, and 6" x 6" for drivers.

These are free from USPS if you ship via Priority mail. You need to cobble two of them together for longer clubs and shafts.

I still have about a half dozen from all the crap I have bought in the last few months. I have recycled a few, shipped out a few more and STILL have a stack.

 

I had to hide them because the wife was asking too many questions.

Remove the grips and heads, then fold the shafts into thirds and they should fit nicely into a USPS Flat Rate box.

Exactly this. My local Post Office has them sitting off to the side that people can simply grab at their convenience.

 

Just keep in mind that if you slap a UPS label on it that they'll hit you with a non-rectangular upcharge.

I have a Roger Dunn's golf store nearby and they have always been kind in giving me boxes. Any golf store in your area should have some - they usually throw them away.

More venting than anything else, but I spent $135 on apparel at Carl’s Golfland in Plymouth MI yesterday, asked the manager for a box upon checking out, and was told it would be $5 apiece. I usually swear by Carl’s, but give me a break!!!

My local Golf Galaxy is the same way, I bought a new bag there years ago and they told me it would be $5 per club box. I was in a pinch and told them I'd take one, they said they had to be paid for in cash (which I didn't have at the time). I told them I'd find a box elsewhere and drove around to their recycling bin that had about 20 broken down boxes right on top. That just really rubbed me the wrong way, I wish I had told them to keep the bag as well.

 

If they would say that the $5 would go to charity or even towards the store holiday party or golf outing, I'd be fine with it. To pocket my $5 to grab me a piece of the stores trash, I'm not down with that.

I've purchased many a club within the past few months but all of the boxes arrived damaged to the point where I wouldn't use them again. I've had a few that were literally crushed but was lucky that the contents arrived intact.  I ended up buying 15 double wall 275lb 48 x 6 x 6 boxes from uline that cost me $98 delivered ($28 for shipping). These boxes are hard to form a box but are worth it to me because I want the box to survive shipping. I only ship Fedex and have learned that the 48 x 6 x6  boxes are actually about 48 1/4 inches long. Anything over 48 inches in length gets rounded up and hit with an extra fee by Fedex. I've cut about an inch off the length when I use it and have had to ship a few drivers with head and shaft seperated to make sure there is enough room at the top and bottom for packaging materials.
