Rory out of Pro-Am for "Personal Reasons"..what's up?

Is this going to turn into another "what up with Rory" thread?  All jokes aside, he's probably got family biz to tend to.  Or maybe he's not doing enough in the diaper doody/duty department and the wife is fuming.  Whatever it is, he'll probably be back in time for the US Open.  Oh wait, is it just the Pro-Am he's not doing?

Kind of weak. Keep in mind there is group of people who paid big money to play that round with him and bunch of others that paid to go see him that day.

it not a regular thing for him, so not a huge deal, but not feeling like it is not a good enough reason.

Right yea I kinda had that in the back of my mind, if folks had forked out the cash for it, and he was in previous agreement to attend, then yea that's a bummer for those couple people for sure. He would have been better off then just not agreeing to take part in it in the first place.

He does not really have much of a choice. I am sure someone on here knows the details, but the top PGA players are required to play in certain  number of Pro Ams. If they did not have such a rule on tour you could imagine that very few of the guys would play in them as they aren’t exactly the highlight of the week for your pro.

Not a big deal as Rors does not have habit of doing stuff like this

For sure, my aloof-ness to the issue was more my way of saying this news doesn't make me imagine what possible terrible things could be happening in his personal life, but rather a more simple explanation, like he didn't wanna wear himself out by playing an extra round, or just simply didn't want to do it.

Yes appreciate that - I just enjoy sharing semi-useless information on the internet. 😉

Here is a bit more - this is speculation based on playing in a few pro-ams over the year and being involved with the companies sponsoring events.

The PGA makes it virtually mandatory for top players to play the Wednesday Pro-Am (they have a few get out of jail free cards). The events sponsors get spots in the pro-am and first pick of who they want to play with. It is safe to assume Rors was supposed to play with a major sponsor and thus people important to the PGA and event. Typically when a pro drops out they are replaced with an alternate that is ranked way way way way way lower. You might go from a guy that it would be on you bucket list to play with to a guy you never heard of. I am not sure how they handle it for the top sponsors - ?they might steel a high profile pro form another group and then those guys get the shaft - I don't know? At any rate it is a headache for the event organisers and Tour. I am sure Rors did not drop out lightly, but I am also not thinking there is any kind of life altering issue at play.

I sorta vaguely remember reading somewhere they get a number of 'passes' on pro-ams each season. Could be 'personal' reasons is just him using that pass?

It could be "none of anyone's business!!!"

Who cares because it's nobody's business other than Rory's and the PGA Tour.  It certainly isn't anyone's business on this site.

For f#€&s sake.  🙄
