So, it's down to win a tournament, or Q Series.

Terry Duffy and his CME shilling (Race to the CME...blah, blah, blah) and Smiley Whan living in Duffy's back pocket has made things hard to keep track of on the LPGA.

"If it's not broke....break it" will be the new LPGA mantra after the Drive On campaign which IMO...was/is dated after its 1st day...just sayin.

It wouldn't shock me if they removed that provision. They've been pushing Q Series for a few years now. Even though there are plenty of provisions for better players to skip stages, it's still a cash cow.

Ya....Q-school & Q Series is quite the cash cow when ya sit down and do the math.

One really cool thing about this event is that all the players got paid something.

Even if they missed the cut.

Sure I agree that tourneys need to have a cut, just to  make the weekends manageable.   But no payday if you miss the cut seems a holdover from the times when the tours didn't have much $.

If all players got a little something no matter their position, it would keep more players on the tour

Unless they advertently left the Top-40 category out of the current Priority Manual, which was posted after the first reshuffle.

Category10 - Non-Member Top 40 (doesn't apply this year but will apply in 2022).  I'm not sure on the sponsor invite, no cut = no CME points but assume you are right.  This would mirror the prior policy with money.

Nice week for Sydnee. She's played in only four events this year, and missed the cut in the previous three. First top 10 since June 2016.

Can we say TOP 5? Has a better ring to it. Always rooting for the mamas, plus golf is better than pageantry for a fallback IMO....

I think there are more Su Oh fanboys on this site...myself included...than Minjee fanboys.

spacer.png

I actually like both of them -- esp Minjee who's from Perth -- Perth is the destination of a lot of my friends who've decided to migrate from whereever they were prior... Even my wife has some friends there.  But I thought I needed to be "different" for the LPGA contest we had, otherwise, I'll end up investing in "core" stocks/players and just "follow the mkt returns"... Unfortunately, well, my picks have imploded relative to the others haha.

My most fav ones are obvious (eg Bianca, Hinako, Yuka), but the less obvious ones (JYK, SYK, SYR, InGee, Minjee, Su, Hannah, Jeen, Porny, Andrea Lee, Matilda, Kelly, Mina H) - it's too many haha.  Hence why I am here on this board vs the men's/PGA ones though I also follow the PGA quite a bit... (Hideki and JDay are dead giveaways for obvious reasons)

Just finished watching the last round, coverage was dismal but oh well.

Really happy to see Pajaree win, though I would never root against Emma.  Impressed with Pajaree's interview afterward, she's well-spoken and very poised.  If she keeps putting like this she's going to win some more.

Look at the final leaderboard for this Handa event and note that more than 20 players made the cut but DNF.  Which i think means 'did not finish'.

Others were cut, and 2 WD.

Any ideas why so many DNF?  In the  past i have never known more than 2/3 DNF so gotta wonder why.  Could be Covid?

Not it was not. This event had cuts after the 2nd and 3rd third rounds. The LPGA.com scoreboard shows this. As did the ET.

https://www.lpga.com/tournaments/isps-handa-world-invitational/results

Player that were cut after the second round did not earn any money. Players that were cut after the third round made money. MDF stands for Made cut did not finish. It is used in events that generally have multiple/secondary cuts. The PGA Tour had this for years when they had to have a secondary cut on the weekend due to field size. Same as the HANDA event this past weekend. PGA Tour no longer uses this.

https://www.worldinvitational.golf/at-a-glance/

Format:

  • Two 72-hole strokeplay events for men and women
  • First two rounds played over Galgorm Castle and Massereene, all competitors to play both venues
  • Final two rounds (Saturday & Sunday) played at Galgorm
  • Cut after round 2 (Friday) Top 60 and ties professional men and women (minimum 120, two tee start)
  • Cut after round 3 (Saturday) Top 35 and ties men and women (minimum 70, first tee only start)
  • Three balls, all men and all women
  • Groups on timesheets at both venues over four days to alternate between men and women

When I looked at the LPGA leaderboard yesterday it showed that the players cut after round 2 had earned just over $1000 each.  It's now showing $0.

MDF?  Where is that coming from?

All i see on the LPGA leaderboard is DNF (Did Not Finish).

@jobinMDF=“made cut, did not finish” ... albeit “DNF” after 3rd round cut = same meaning?

i looked at LPGA leaderboard and just saw “the following players did not make the cut”... so probably just a different presentation?

Channelling some Nancy Drew now...is Charley Hull the same woman as Georgia Hall?

Maybe they use mirrors and CGI to make them appear to be in the same proximity?

They are always within a stroke or two of each other in seemingly every tournament. They're English. They both declined Olympic selection. Hull....Hall, only one letter different....the female golfer version of Sal Bass of Seinfeld?

It's like they're interchangeable, maybe they're Brooke/Brittany? (God no, help me).

Maybe they're a poor woman's not quite Superperson/Clarkette Kent?

Perhaps she's just really fast and good at creative makeup and disguise? The speed might explain Charley's fast talking?

I wonder (spoken in Morgan Freeman's voice).

Just now watched the replay of the final day, esp the playoff of 2 holes, the same hole #18 (i think).  On the first playoff hole Talley hit the green but the ball was off in the far corner needing her to putt over the fringe. She just cut the corner and left the ball 10 ft to the left of the cup, due to the slope of the green and the fact the she did not direct the ball correctly over the 'non-green'.

Then on the 2nd playoff hole the Thai girl had nearly the same situation; putting from the far corner needing to go over the fringe, etc.  She left her putt in about the same place at Talley did 15 minutes earlier.

Given the risk/reward in this case of win or lose on one shot, why not chip over the fringe or chip to the top of the slope and gain some nearness to the hole?  Putting over the fringe from on the green brings many insecurities.

Gary Woodland made a great chip on the 17th green at Pebble Beach during the final round of the US Open. However, I imagine a lot of players may be uncomfortable chipping on such a tight lie. Gary Player said, "If you can putt, putt."

There was also a downslope on the other side of the fringe. Tough to carry the ball over the fringe to the downslope, and control the speed so that it doesn't roll off the green.

I kept waiting for one of them to play their second shot to short right of the green. Might have been an easier chip than putting from way long. But what do I know.

I was sure they would - both times.
