Is PXG going out of business?

So I guess with the big screw now acting as the primary adjustment they've gotten rid of the different weights for the small screws

Correct, PXG does not adjust the smaller tungsten screws they are set.  The center weight is adjusted for SW.

The new Ping..great comment, read ex Ping staff, designers made the prototypes etc,and it can be clearly seen early product was, um, interesting. But latest product lines are genuinely good stuff.Putters,Wedges, very very interesting... so mass appeal of the brand will be a lot wider now. Also Wonderful to see Lydia Ko win ..future looks bright at PXG

I was in their Mesa store last week, buying a putter. Excellent service!

I checked out the Gen5 tours, and from address they looked fabulous, very square Ping like toe. Shaft selection is abysmal for stronger players. better price and shaft selection I probably would have bough on the spot.

$324 they could look fabulous. I can’t believe people buy them at that price. And that’s with a stock shaft.

Stock shafts in women’s weights. It’s crazy to me.

With $30 to change to a normal off the rack grip, there is no way they are expected to have a long life expectancy. Add $60 shipping and their off the rack shaft offerings coming in less weight than a senior or lady's shaft, it is quickly easy to see that the additional nickels and dimes add up to basically double the cost of the irons for a comparable club to any other OEM. We must enjoy golf too much here to be much good at math.

Perfect example, thanks! Their standard swing weight is D0, falls into most OEMs standard range of D0 - D2. They push their fitting service for a reason. Buying off the rack is just dumb, no matter which OEM you go with.

How, better yet, why is this still a thread? They ain't going anywhere folks. No matter what misinformed hate you spew...

These people that think they are going out of business now. Are probably the same ones that stated they would be out of business in less than 3 years when they started in 2014.

Their off the rack offering for a Gen 4 4-PW set is showing up for me as $1,992 plus $60 shipping. If I get fit and decide I  need other OEM's off the rack offering for shafts and grips, my price increases to $2,554 plus $60 shipping. I just built a set of TM P790s 4-PW with the exact same set up. $1,299.99 and free shipping. Shafts and grips came stock. I can't decide if PXG is worth an extra $1,200 for the exact set for the GEN 4, but I can tell you I have a Gen 2 set that I own that that I can't give away and they have upgraded True Temper shafts and Golf Pride grips.  Been offered $300-$350 trade in for a $2,400 set of clubs. Based on PXG pricing, the Golf Pride grips are almost worth the trade in value alone. Maybe PXG should do a promotion "trade in for 1/4 of what you paid us for them." That rivals only Warrior golf for the worst loss on your "investment."

It's a sunk cost and there is no guarantee you will get whatever number you think is just on your flip errrrr "investment." This pertains to clubs, autos, baseball cards, Jordans or whatever else is purchased. Only on WRX, do golf equipment hoes feel righteous about their flip asking price, yet they're the same ones nickel and diming sellers trying to get rid of their stuff. Nothing fair in those scenarios!!!

Can't disagree at all here. My thought is I'd rather sink 1200 into something other than 2500. Like sinking a Jon boat versus a yacht.

Lol. The irony of a member with a Scotty Cameron putter avatar complaining about the price of clubs.

I picked up a new set of PXG 0311 Gen 3s last year for $150 a club. Ping is charging $250 a club for the i59s. I guess Ping is going out of business, too.

I'm not quite complaining about the cost. FYI- I paid $2,000 for that putter in the avatar, check ebay pricing now. There is no PXG deflation there. You picked up a new to you set? The Gen 3's have been out for 2 years. The I59 is Ping's newest club. Let's compare apples to apples here. I59-$250, PXG Gen 5- $350 then you get to pay $60 for shipping, $30 for a grip and $50-75 for an off the rack shaft that everyone offers for free. That brings the PXG cost to $426 per club while the Ping is $250. We don't even have to go down the resell value road surely...Is PGX really worth double a Ping? I don't think so, but obviously quite a few people are buying into the neon signs and the yelling carnie. To me, they are just a step above Warrior Golf and the Hammer Driver and seem very infomercialish.

Gen 3 to I59 would be more of an apples to apples comparison despite the release date of the clubs.

I have a hard time getting that. A 3 month old club pricing comparable to a 2 year old club? PXG has discounted them twice to milk the last remaining drops out of the Gen 3's. They are 2 generations old. Maybe the Ping I200 as comparable and I'd be willing to bet those sell for more than a used set of Gen3's as well.

I was comparing the quality/technology/design of both clubs.  I tried the I59 and they were not for me, I thought they had a harsher/clicky feel compared to the Gen 3 T’s.

I don’t buy golf clubs for resale or as an investment, I buy what works best for me and is the most enjoyable to use.  If money was the determining factor and I was looking for the best value I would probably look hard at one of the DTC companies like Sub70 or New Level.  Well under half the cost of Pings, etc.  with excellent performance, especially at their price point.

The technology between the gen 5 and gen 3 is minimal.  For the price of the gen 3, it’s a great club for a great price.  Hard to argue that.  Problem is the shafts.  I keep getting told on this forum to call, they have other shafts, but my friend called and they had nothing really in stock, and most everything was an up charge.  Kept pushing the tour elevate.  $39 for dynamic gold?  That’s a problem, especially if for some reason you want to pay $330 a club for the gen 5.  Then I agree, bad business, bad deal.  But even if they gave me gold shafts I wouldn’t buy clubs that cost $330 each.  But no, not going out of business.

Yeah, I just don’t get the hate… First of all, Bob Parsons has more money than he could ever spend. If he never makes a dime on PXG it simply won’t matter. Him losing $500,000 annually is like someone throwing a fork off the QE2. Are his ads annoying? Yes they are, however one thing for sure is he’s passionate about golf and golf clubs. I think his pricing and cascading of offerings makes a lot of sense. Basically a golfer can find clubs at any budget they like. I was a Ping guy forever, played g25 irons for almost 8yrs until finally finding something that looked better, felt better, and performed better. For me those irons were PXG 0311 Gen3 XP. Then I liked them so much, I was looking to replace my Ping Tour S wedges. Bought a 0311 Forged 60* that was a great deal. It’s AWESOME! So 2 days later bought the 50* and 54*… I wonder how many of the people hating PXG clubs have even hit them?

Maybe this a better comparison. Original P790 irons value vs PXG Gen2 irons. Both sets were released in late 2017 - early 2018. I used 2nd Swing for pricing…. A whopping $10 difference in selling price.

Those are asking prices, not selling prices. I have that set of PXG with True Temper 120s and new multi compounds and would take half that for them right now. Slight problem though, no one will give even $400 for them…I have sold 3 sets of 790s here on this forum…yeah…I gave them a few chances and had no issues selling. PXG’s never move. I’m resigned to waiting for the best trade in deal and dumping them. Rock Bottom us a 50% trade in bonus right now so they may end up there.

Wrong, those are sold on eBay prices. Asking is 10k and above. Notice the green font. That means sold. That is something you will never see from PXG. An increase in value after purchase. Ask me, I learned the hard way…it is ok though, I’m sure carnie Bob would be happy to take those right back and sell me a new set with $10 elevate shafts and 1.99 PXG grips.
