Largest group you've ever played in?

What's the largest group you've ever played a round with?

 

I know some places are super stuffy and won't allow a 5-some ever. I've also played in 4-man tourneys with 3 teams per hole (those normally take forever!)

 

Keeping up with pace of play (2 hr per 9), what's the largest group you've mobbed with???

Played 6 a few times when we had two groups of 3 but never for the whole round. Usually just got together somewhere on the back to finish up.

5 is the most I've played an entire round with.

It was pretty much 8 of us together for a corp tournament with many beers. We had the whole place, so it wasn't like we were pissing anyone off 

 

<edit> essentially 2 foursomes that was all engineers.

Played behind a really really really sloooow 4some once. By the time they walked off the 17th green there were 9 of us on the tee so we finished as a 9-some.  They started their round 2 hrs before we did.  No clue how many groups they let through before we got to them.

5-somes were fairly common at the munis I used to play down south. I can handle 5, but don't like it.

 

The biggest group I've ever tried to actually play in (against my will) was 7. It lasted about 3 holes.

 

There were just waaaaaay too many balls and players to keep track of. It hurt both my sensibility and my head.

We once played a 47-some. Skins game. Birdies (or below) only with carryovers. If you already took your shot at birdie, you picked up and waited greenside for the hole to finish. We walked 9-holes in 1:52. Kept pace with a 3-some who was ahead of us.

I’ve played 18 holes with 6.

 

Played a handful of horse races that started with 18-20 but quickly dwindled.

Yeah, I think @b.helts and I are on the same page here. I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this one.

If each player took 15 seconds to peg it, hit it, and get out of the next players way, you’re on the tee for 10 minutes each hole. That’s 90 minutes just for tee shots.

My home club allows 6, so that’s a regular thing. Sometimes in the afternoon if it’s really slow we try to play 7 or 8, but we usually get caught and told to split up.

The course we go to only allows 4 some. Once, we got on the first tee, the group in front of us got so many people. What ended up happen is there were 5 kids, and 3 adults for a total of 8 people. Adults were not playing, all 5 kids were playing. My guess is they told the course only 4 kids are playing otherwise the course will definitely break up the group. 

 

I was in a 3 some. And I said to the other 2 guys that this sucks, let's strong arm them into letting us play through when we catch up with them except ... We never did. The kids were good players and play fast. Some of smaller kids were teeing from the fairways, and they were keeping the pace up.

I have played as much as 16 at the Bandon Preserve as few times. I a have also played in groups of 19 in Horse Race events.

You threw in the qualifier which eliminates this, but I played in a 9 man wolf game before. Other than that I've kept that pace with 5 before.

One time I think we had like 10 for the last 3 holes. This was at my former course ( now closed) We had a couple of old fart members that would hold up everyone and did not care. Several of us had complained to no avail with our Pro. One Sunday they were stacking up and we let other groups hit up some were members and some tourist golfers. We explained the situation to the tourist golfers and they were on board. It was a blast. The pro looked out of the big picture window and saw a 10 some coming up the 18th. He about blew a head gasket and shouted WTH? We let him have it. He chewed those old farts up and down. One thing after that they got their heads out of their you know what and let people through. About 3 months later the head Pro was fired. He had gotten lackluster anyhow and the membership was fed up with him

 

Now in all the big money Calcutta matches playing Captains Choice we always played 2 4 man teams in the same group. That is SOP in the big money Calcutta matches

We play a 9 hole dollar carryover skins game every weekend day in the winter when NO snow on ground.  Sometimes we will play with 10 in a group.  When you are out of the hole (skinwise) you pick up we play the nine holes WALKING in 2 hours easily.

Read the post.  Key word WINTER!!  How many people play when the temp is in the 20's?  BTW any that come can play with the group.

It was a joke about the absurd claim that 47 dudes are getting around in 1:45 and keeping up with a 3 ball.

Playing in a 4 man tournament had to go off in a 12 some.  Horseraces with 20.  In the 12 group, we were all tied for the lead and the organizers couldn't figure out what to do, so, 12 it was.
