I don't think I've ever heard Lanny say more than 10 words before flipping channels.  How can anyone watch geezer golf?  Sr. Tour is some pretty boring sheeeet, even with Phil playing.  So by that standard, Lanny is much better than Zinger.

After reading this thread I always laugh when he turns it over to Billy Ray.

Can't stand listening to him so I just don't. Playing wise he had that don't blink/phone booth swing that was seriously effective and if I had to pick a partner for pro/am etc. back then he would of been very high up on the list.

It's NOT personal.  Lanny is critical of most golfers, it's his style, and it's always been that way.

Three reasons - but I can't speak for anyone else - one being relational, another being technical, and the third, biological, I guess.

 

1. My wife is very OK with it, given if I am watching golf then I am probably not losing golf balls by playing golf.

 

2. I have a TV and remember the channel number for golf. 

 

3. My eyeglasses still do a pretty good job.

Lanny Watkins could actually be the actual person referred to by the OP.

 

Maybe he didn't mean Lanny Wadkins the 21 time PGA Tour winner including the 1977 PGA Championship.

I admit I watch my fair share of senior tour. Like others I always find it funny when he says 'Billy Ray'. 

 

But I also always get a vibe like they are commentating a poker tournament or an Auction. I don't know why but I just do. It's a little more enthusiasm than your regular whispering golf commentators.

I think Phil himself has admitted that he probably could have scored better here or there being a bit more conservative, but at the same time I think he has maintained that's just not who he is.

 

Despite this, saying being more conservative on certain holes is such an uninsightful, dumb and overused generalization that it's pointless to say and even more pointless to call out anyone on. And further stating that Phil's would shoot better scores if he was not so bold in certain situations in just non verifiable nonsense. You might more correctly state that he would shoot a better score on some holes but worse on others... either way in the end it's pretty hard to suppose his overall scores for a season would be better.

OP original post was Lanny on Phil. My comment is the Senior telecast in general. 
The senior tour has developed because the population has aged with the great players we watched 20 years ago, and why not? 
It’s great to see the names of players I watched years ago and learned from. 
It’s great golf. A little more relaxed. I don’t think it’s boring. At least it’s golf content. 
Today I’m watching Euros at Valdarama. Stunning course.

Most of the time I would prefer the hacks, much more entertaining. I don't fault anyone who likes watching the fake golf, knocking yourselves out, but it's a really boring product.  I'm sure it's quite a blast for the guys playing.  Phil said as much, just fire away.  Tees up, pins in the middle...time to relive the glory of old.  Good for them, but I'm out.
