Play ZF in my 17* and 21* after trying several shafts.

Perfect match for my swing.

Happen to be I see a zf on eBay at a reasonable price haha. I may take a splurge 🤷🏻‍♂️. At the same time I maybe use my 17* once a round sometimes once every other round which is possibly why I don’t hit it as well or just plain comfortable as the 21*. I could literally crawl out of bed and just flush the 21* easy 240

21* is my best club in the bag.  17* is OK but I may eventually replace it with a 5w or 7w.

I prefer fairway woods to long irons or hybrids and this past season was the first time I did not have 3 fairway woods in the bag.

I switched to 4w, 17* UW and 21* UW

4W is pretty close to a 17 degree UW for me. Similar total but more carry on the 4W, more roll on the UW and every once in a while I catch a perfect on the UW and it outperforms a 3 wood.

21 degree is sitting about 10-15 yards shy of a well struck 5 wood.

Agree that 21 is favourite club in my bag, 17 screams potential but is a bit more hit and miss. I'm going to play with shafts until I get it though.

I was just on the site. Gen 5 drivers back to $599, FW’s and hybrids $299 and irons back to full price. Throw in the $60 shipping, and it looks like the good times (for us) are over until they come out with the Gen 6?

4w is 16.5 at 42.25” - 240

UW is 17* at 41.25” - 220

UW is 21* at 40.25” - 200

Shaft length makes a difference, at least for me, in distance.

I play them short of standard length.

The UW is a funny club in how it performs differently for so many players.

21* for me was a 235 total yards stock shot but could get out there if needed.

the 21* bridged the gap between my 5i and 2 utility iron great and was obviously a better approach option into a green due to higher launch and decent angle.

Just wish it didn't rust, the TSR2 7w will have to suffice when it comes in

This is all personal to one’s swing. For me the 21 was more like my 5 wood when I used to have one with that 235-240 club but more that it hit the same window. The couple times I’ve built and gamed a 7w it was no where close to the 21 and the window was much higher.

Yeah the 17* is definitely an outlier for me. Jus don’t use it much. Been actually using a UDI 2 iron instead for tee shots less than driver

The top end of bag setup right now is

Driver 9* @ 280-300y

UW 17* @ 245-260y

Driving iron 23* @ 220-230y

I'm dropping the 20* hybrid since it's a hook machine

Now I only have 13 clubs and would like another option. The 18* UDI driving iron was total trash (hard to hit, useless unless the lie was perfect), 5w has been replaced with the 17* UW, hybrids are hook-city.

The logical solution is a 21* UW, but I don't have a distance gap problem.

I'm toying with the idea of 2 drivers (one high, one low for downwind and into the wind). Maybe a 7-wood. Anything else I should consider?

Another Driver or super strong 3 wood that's setup opposite of your stock shot with the Driver now.  So if you're go to is a high fade off the tee, setup a 3 wood that you can hit a draw with easily and change flights.  Gives you two comfortable options off tee regardless of ideal landing area or hole direction.

Outside of that, I have a 7 wood, and I think you'd find, that unless you need a club that's identical to your DI but ends up falling super high and soft, like dropped out of an elevator shaft, probably not a huge need for it.  If that shot is one you want, then I say go for it.  I'm around 108-110mph w/ the Driver and the right side of 270ish, my 21 degree Callaway 7 wood sits perfect at 235 hop and stop like a wedge from the tight stuff and 245 off a tee.  I generally prefer to hit a punchier shot with a DI or my 3 wood from the rough so I can't comment there.

I want something between my driver at 10* and 4i at 21*, and I think it's between the UW and ZX 5W.  Anyone using both the 17 and 19 and have an opinion on which they'd recommend?  Looking for both an alternate off tee and 2nd shot on par 5s, with plenty of time in the rough.

i game the 17 and 21 but tried the 19 extensively but not on course. So you should definitely get the 19. It’s only 2 degree difference but it’s way more easier to hit than the 17 and I bet on average they properly go the same if you include the bad ones.

It's definitely an interesting issue.  I hadn't had a Cally club rust until my UW.  I've since moved on from UW to the Epic Super Hybrids but Callaway was quick to replace the rusted club(s) no questions asked.  Wonder if the metal alloy used is getting a reaction from golf course chemicals?

I had two Epic Speed fairway woods that rusted, first one quite bad after about a month. Callaway replaced them no issues. My UW and Rogue 3 wood have been fine. Strange one.

Does anyone know how much the weight in the bottom is supposed to weigh in the stock setup? I bought a used UW and the weight says 7 grams but the on the club under where the weight screws in, it says 3.

where does the weight say 7? The description of the item?

A stock club with unaltered length should be 7g. I have both 17 and 21 and both had 7g on them.

Here's a couple photos. Not sure if you can see the 3 in the club on the pic or not.  Sounds like I have the stock weight. I've always thought it felt a bit heavy so I took the screw out to hit it without any weight and then I saw the numbers on them.

7g is correct and whatever each weight might be in various calalway heads is whatever is stamped on the weight itself. The numbers stamped on the head inside that cavity have nothing to do with the weight, they are just QC/assembly line numbers for the manufacturer.

I am going to test a bit more before deciding but I am thinking of pulling the HZRDUS Smoke Black from my 17 degree UW because the ball is flying a little too low. I like the controlled flight so this is more about tweaking and preferred feel of the shaft through impact. The Tensei is standard mid/mid blueboard profile so I will go with something in that category. I like the Accra shafts too. A bit more launch and this club will be just right. The Smoke Black does feel firmer. Not too stiff but firmer than Tensei Blue.

Anyone out there using the UW exclusively in place of a fairway wood (or 2)?

After being fitted into Rogue ST HL this season, I'm still having consistency issues with it from the tee and fairway..

Have gamed a XHot 2 Hybrid for over 8 years and it's a pretty consistant performer - thinking of trying out the UW in a 17° with Tensei blue - not chasing ultimate distance as it's rare to go for a par 5 in 2..

Not my first failed experiment with a fairway wood, just think I'm better suited to hybrids / UWs with a shorter shaft...

Thanks.

I am using a 21* UW as one of my three options at the top of the bag behind my driver (also using a 17* TEE C721 hybrid and an old 23* Nickent 3dx DC hybrid) and feel it’s perhaps my most consistent club. As a guy who naturally draws the ball, the UW really is ideal with the face sitting slightly open. I have the smoke rdx black in it and I love the ball flight I get out of it, consistent mid-flight that slowly rises and lands softly. I’m able to work the ball both ways when needed too. It really is an ideal club for me!

If you’re a lower swing speed player or fight a slice, this club might not be perfect for you as it is of the low spin variety with an open face.

Just picked up the 19* version up thanks to this thread. Absolutely in love with it so far. I was a little worried it would be too low launch and spin for my 19* spot, but I actually feel like it’s pretty easy to elevate and wouldn’t hesitate to hit it into a green. As y’all advertised, it’s also workable and not a hook machine.

The stock 70g shaft (only option on cally preowned) is a little light for me, so I’ll be putting an 85g Kai’li Blue in it, but man once I do that, this thing is gonna be in my bag for a long time.

I got a 19* and could not get it off the ground. Swapped in my favorite 7w shaft which made it a touch longer length and it is better, but still not what I was hoping for (and my 7w wants its shaft back...). Anyone have a recommendation for someone with a slower swing speed? My goal with this club was to just drop the 3w as a fairway tool and go straight to the UW thinking that the loft would be my friend. It is not working out yet. FWIW, I generally avoid Hybrids.

I have to be somewhat dissenting here, I couldn’t get my 19 degree to slow down.  Thought it was just off the tee at first but soon realized when I tried taking something off it would launch lower with less spin and go even further.  It has to be illegal, there’s no other explanation.  Absolutely love the club but had to get the 21 degree to fit the 220-230 range.
