How I looked at it, for building....

UW 17.0° - 3 Wood

UW 19.0° - 4 Wood

UW 21.0° - 5 Wood

The 17.0° and 19.0° UWs are very similar clubs. Even stock from Callaway, they are very similar.

I kinda followed that lead from Callaway, and made adjustments to fit me a bit better.

I built my UW 17.0° and 19.0° the exact same.

Head Weights are identical. Shafts are Identical. Tipping, Playing Length both identical. Grip, identical. Face Angle and Lie, again, both identical. And lastly, same for Swingweight.

The Lofts, I did NOT adjust either. I left them each independent.

The details:

Headweight(s) - 225.0g

Shaft(s) - Velocore Red 8x

Tipping(s) - 0"

Playing Length(s) - 42 1/4"

Grip(s) - GripMaster Leather Kidd STD

Grip Build(s) - 3 Wraps Total

Face Angle(s) - 6.5° Open

Line Angle(s) - 59.0°

Swingweight(s) - D6.5

.... The Measured Loft(s) are roughly 18.0° and 20.0°, respectively.

When you take into consideration the Effect Loft(s), the 18.0° quickly becomes a 14.0° UW and the 20.0° becomes 16.0° UW.

At 14.0° and 16.0° they become 2 Clubs I don't have the desire nor need to carry, in my Bag, at the same time.

And that brings us to present day....

The 17.0° (aka 14.0°) and 19.0° (aka 16.0°) are gearing up for a Shoot Out once the daily rain in North Myrtle comes to an end.

This is beautifully written and I just wanted to express my thanks for this amazing piece of information.

Just curious... do you have the measuring tools yourself, or did a club builder measure? I've just never seen a stated face angle of 6.5*. That's wildly open. But if accurate, that may explain why I love my UW's so much. Haha. I hate for the face to appear even the tiniest bit shut.

Thanks for the info.

My Builder does. He's one of my closest confidants.

From Callaway, the 17.0° UW was 6.5° Open. We didn't do anything to it.

From Callaway, the 19.0° UW was just shy of 5.5° Open. We did adjust this one, and pushed it to 6.5° Open.

I am the exact same as you. I can not stand one speck of closed. Very, very sensitive. It's the same reason, I've had extended success with the 2016 Apex Hybrids: 18.0°, 20.0°, 23.0°, and 26.0°. Off my head, I believe they were all 6.0° Open.

Interesting, thanks. Wish I could find a driver that’s 6.5° open. Haha. Enjoying the Steath + right now as it does look square to me at the -2° setting. The UW does look perfect to my eye. Same thing with all 3 of my XR Pro hybrids that I’ll never sell, they seem to sit perfect as well.

Don't overlook the stock Epic Speed Driver.

With all the Limited Callaway Driver offerings, I still firmly believe the Epic Speed flys below the radar. Guys (and Gals) were referring to it early on in the release cycle as the modern day Taylormade R510 DF Proto. Oddly enough, that's my Retro Bag Driver!

I've got a 9.0°, 3 10.5°, and a 12.0° Speed Driver(s). Each one was 4-4.5° Open in the N | S Setting.

Hope to see how the 17* gaps with the 19* and 21* today or tomorrow.

Only plan on keeping two and the 21* is already firmly in the bag, so either 17* or 19* will make the bag (most likely).

Hit the 19* already and it may be a bit close to use with the 21*.

Wanted to try something with a bit more launch and spin in the 17* as I had one with a Tensei AV White and just low bullets.

21* has a ZF tipped 1.5” at 40.25”.

19* has ZF tipped 1.25” at 41.25”.

17* has TB tipped 1.25” at 41.25”

I really love these clubs.

After 5+ rounds with the UW, I had to throw in the towel, and went back to a 3 wood (SIM 2 Max). Suspect it was the stock shaft that didn't suit me as it was the only club in the bag that I had to really commit to swinging. Two rounds with the 3W reflects that (Ventus Blue 6s non-velocore) which is a little softer and suits me better. Pity as I would have liked to try the UW with another shaft, but buying options are very limited here if clubs don't have adjustable hosels.

I use the same model, VentusTR6S in 17 41.25", and VentusTR7S 40.5" in 21 both tipped 1", all standard weight. not sure why its sound a bit different.

Could have to do with ball contact location.  When you catch one in the sweet spot, the ball feels like it just melts into the face and the sound is more of a muted "thwack".

When you miss on the heel or toe side, the ball still goes but feel and sound is different.

I am more consistent hitting the center with the 21* over the 19* (and the 17*) as I play my 21* at 40.25" and my 19* is 1" longer at 41.25".

Getting ready to bite the bullet and pick up a 19* to slot between a 15* TSi2 fairway with AD DI 7S (74g) and a 22* 4 iron. Looking for slightly heavier weight and higher launch than the RDX Black 70. Stock options I see are:

Tensei AV Blue Xlink 75S (78g)

Mitsubishi MMT 80S (81g)

Rogue White 130 80S (80g)

Any experience/thoughts/recommendations regarding those shaft options? Any input is appreciated!

Thinking about ordering the 21 degree to replace the 19 UW & 5 Hybrid to let me add a wedge in. I have Ventus Black 7x in my Rogue ST Max 3 wood that's amazing, but worried it may launch too low in the 21 UW? Currently have Tensei AV Raw White in the 19 and it is just a low missile launcher (that I still love to hit!)

Driver SS is 115, I want the 21 to fly 225-235 range and not run forever. Any recommendations on shaft? Have thought about Ventus Black 8X, Smoke RDX Blue, Tour AD UB, Tour AD DI but am completely torn. I naturally add a lot of spin to the ball.

Odd you mention this now....

I just noticed last night, while changing out a weight, that my 19.0° UW has some rusting inside of the weight receptor. Very minor, but definitely present. Will keep an eye on it.

Are you guys getting the distance boost primarily due to low spin? For example, do folks find the 17* spinning in the 2,000s…basically driver territory?

I’ll find out soon enough as I impulse bought a 17* with a AD IZ 85x. Just curious what I got myself into 😀

I have yet to see anything like a low spinning heater from my 19*, even on strikes where it would be a possibility.
